FLC Palettes in Windows
2 messages in this thread
We're using the ASL to play flic files within a Window. Although I'm
able to play a small, borderless flic on top of a window with a
bitmap displayed in it, there seems to be a conflict of palettes.
When the file begins playing, there is a palette shift in the
surrounding screen, which is righted when the flic finishes. (looks
like I'm getting an repaint message in there) It looks awful. So,
I'm wondering if there is a way to make sure the flic is using the
same palette as my bitmap. I believe they have the same palette —
the artist is very good about that — so perhaps it is something the
player is doing with the palette. Has anyone experienced a problem
like this, and if so, how was it fixed?
Thanks for the help,
Barb
Barb, I would doubt the two have the same palettes. They should not flash if
they do. Also, because you're in Windows you need to make sure that you're
using an actual "windows" palette. For a standard 256 color palette the first
10 and last 10 entries need to be unused by your images. Animator Pro can be
used for making both a custom palette and Windows palettes. Once you have a
palette created, you squeeze it to 236 colors. After that, you need something
like Paledit or Bitedit (not sure) to create a windows identity palette. After
that you'll need to apply this palette to all of your images and animations. At
least we have to using MM Toolbook. I would hope there are packages which allow
specifying a single pallete and then just having everything use that palette.
If you need it, there's a file up here on CS called Pal tools that will batch
apply a palette to a group of images. We use it at work and it works great. It
requires both Bitedit and Paledit though. I think those two apps come with
ToolBook. You can find Pal tools by searching on the keyword palette in IBMFF.
It's not in the libraries here. If you need any more help let me know.
