#Syquist Instal Problem

Thankyou all for your responses. I see that more information is necessary.
The problem I have is that when I go into my PC setup there is only room for 2
HDs.
So, it doesn't look like I can configure it in without removing one of the
other drives
which I don't want to. The drive comes with an IDE controller card and a
driver
which get has to be copied in and added as a device in the config.sys. I did
all that and the processor just hangs when I try to boot up.
I called up a local PC shop and they said they could do it but it would be a
big deal.
I am willing to do that, except right now, I cannot afford to have my PC in a
repair shop because I have to do some animation work with some tight deadlines.
Soooo,
if I can figure out how to do it without turning it over to the repair shop,
I'm all set.
The documentation said something about having to reconfigure other IDE devices.
I don't know enough about it to know exactly what that means. My otther two
drives ARE IDE drives.

You got me. All of my drives and devices are SCSI. It's a bit more expensive
but you don't have any of this mess to deal with. I didn't even know Bernoulli
had drives using IDE interface. All I know about IDE is that you can only have
up to two drives (a master and a slave). If that's the case, you won't be able
to add a third drive. These things change so rapidly that they might have done
something to allow a third drive to be installed. I've just never seen it.
I remember someone earlier in this thread mentioning something about IDE. Maybe
he would have some insight into this.

Thanks for the reply. Apparently that's normally the case which is why the
local PC repair shop says they can do it, but it takes alot of messing around.
So, I will probably have to have them do it. They probably have some tricks to
make it work.

I don't know what kind of system you have, but you should be able to
have up to four IDE HD's installed (unless it's an older system). On my system,
drive 1 should be set to master, #2 is a slave, #3 master, and #4 slave. All
these settings are usually set by switches or jumpers on the drives. Also, did
you install the Syquest card without disabling the IDE interface already in the
computer? Chances are you have to hook all the drives up to the syquest card or
hook the syquest up to the IDE controller thats already in the computer. That
might be why it won't boot… you can only have one IDE controller installed or
they will conflict with each other.
Sorry if this is old news, or if the syquest manual states otherwise,
but I've never installed one.Beyond talking to syquest tech support and/or your
computer manufacturer, you might ask for help in the IBM hardware forum (I
think thats what it is) here on CIS. You'll probably get more answers over
there from people who have the things up and running.

Thanks for the info. The docs with the drive said something about setting the
other IDE drives, but it didn't say how. I looked up info on IDE drives in my
PC Intern book, which went into an explanation, but not enough to help me set
it up. I installed an IDE card thatt was OPTIONAL with the drive. That's
probably the problem. I'll have to make some calls.
