So why do ya continue to blame your Momma ?
#76700From: jeffrey morrisJan 16, 1994 6:27 PM
Dear Daniel, If Mommy didn't do something bad like smoking while I was inside her before I was born, I would not be a defective baby. If Mommy married a rich doctor or lawyer, she would buy me anything I want. Jeffrey.

>>Dear Daniel, If Mommy didn't do something bad like smoking while I was inside her before I >>was born, I would not be a defective baby. If Mommy married a rich doctor or lawyer, she >>would buy me anything I want. Jeffrey. I want to believe that what you say is a sick kind of sense of humor, see I TOO AM an individual who is disabled, mine WAS caused by abuse/neglect when I was the ripe old age of six months old, that was in 1950, 43 years ago. I too have a warped sense of humor, however I DO NOT BLAME MY PARENTS, I can only imagin what tourcher it would be to be your mother if what you say is serious, you must know she lives in her own private hell, EVEN IF IT IS NOT HER FAULT, let alone if it was. C.P., as I'm sure you know effects the motor control of your brain, NOT YOUR SENSIBILITY OR THINKING POWER, to place blame and make excuses helps NO ONE, MOST IMPORTANTLY YOURSELF….. You sound like a sharp individual Jeffrey, tell me you are just kinding, I cry to think that, if you are not, what damage you are doing to yourself and to your parents …………….

Dear Daniel, If I was not a defective baby, I would be able to use AutoCAD and 3D Studio to make 3D drawings of realistic objects, and create realistic materials, renderings, and animations. I would not log into Compuserve and leave messages asking people for help in using AutoCAD and 3D Studio. Jeffrey.
#76906From: Jan 17, 1994 8:34 PM
Just so that you fully understand, using AutoCAD and 3D Studio to "create realistic materials, renderings, and animations" is not something that comes easily to anyone, no matter how gifted! You may notice that there are over 200 messages a DAY here on CompuServe from people asking all sorts of questions. We have accomplished artists, film producers, lawyers, architects, and expert computer programmers. (And a rocket scientist, or is that a mad scientist, JKJ? <g>) They all have had (and are still having) their problems creating realistic animations. That's why we gather here to help each other achieve a higher plateau of skills to create this art form. Wherever you are in the program, from true beginner to pure expert, there is information available on doing it better, or faster, or with different equipment. We all just try to do it the best we can with whatever we have to work with. No one is born being a great 3D Animator, it requires lots of work, training, reading, study, and experimentation from all of us. We all share the same goal of getting better with the program. Everyone's reasons are different for doing this, but the goal is the same. We invite questions from everybody interested in the program. Some of us find that we learn as much by answering questions as by actually using the program! Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like, we look forward to answering them. We all have a lot to learn, and it isn't easy for any of us. Lots of fun, but not easy!

>>mad scientists… Well, ALL the scientists here are mad today! East Tennessee is iced over and all the schools, universities, & stores are closed. The worst part – both the Department of Energy and the Oak Ridge National Lab closed down due to the ice and nobody can go to work. <waah!> All the scientists and engineers and bureaucrats are forced to stay home and play on their computers all day. What bad luck – enough to make anyone mad! <g>

Dear Greg, I have been using AutoCAD 12 since third or fourth quarter of 1992 and 3D Studio since the day before Thanksgiving last year. I am just a beginner in using 3D Studio. AutoCAD 12 is fairly easy to use and it has commands that I need to make 3D drawings of objects. 3D Studio is harder to use than AutoCAD 12 but it is not frustrating to use. I have never used 3D Studio program before the day before Thanksgiving last year. I need third-party books on using 3D Studio. I can't afford to go to Autodesk Training Center. Jeffrey.
#77229From: Jan 18, 1994 10:54 PM
We carry all the 3D Studio books ever written! And I helped write one myself, "3D Studio Applied", which should start shipping next month. I'd be happy to discuss your specific needs and recommend one of them to you that would get you to the next level of the program! Please give me a call at (714) 833-0334, if I'm not there ask for Tony. Or leave me your number on private e-mail and I'll call you. It may be tough getting through to us until the "earthquake callers" let up a bit!

Dear Gregory, I would call you but I am hearing impaired and I need a TTY machine and TTY Relay Service. I thought I asked you to send me a catalog but you didn't send me one. If you don't have a catalog, make one and send it to me. I need books that teach me how to use 3D Studio, similar to "Inside AutoCAD" book. Where is your business? I found out there was an earthquake in Los Angeles. I called my Autodesk dealer and asked him for help in configurating 3D Studio for network rendering but he told me that he was not familar with network rendering until he tried it out himself and promised to leave me a message on his BBS. I read the 3D Studio Advanced User Manual, edited the 3DSNET.SET file, ran 3D Studio in slave mode on my computer that doesn't have the hardware lock, ran 3D Studio in workstation mode on my other computer that has the hardware lock, loaded a drawing into 3D Studio, and rendered an animation using network queue, and it WORKED the first time! Jeffrey.

Jeffrey, for additional insights into network rendering, download 3dsnet.txt from the what's new section in the library. jonas[adesk]

Dear Jonas, I downloaded the 3DSNET.TXT file and read it before setting up 3D Studio for network rendering. Jeffrey.

Jeffrey: I'll put a list of all the 3DS books together for you and e-mail it! Greg Pyros

Dear Gregory, Thank you very much for making a list of 3DS books. I will be waiting for it. Jeffrey.

Jeffrey – I think you are being too hard on yourself. Neither AutoCAD nor 3D Studio are easy programs to learn. I started with AutoCAD in 1984 and have used it almost daily since 1988, and I *still* log on to the ACAD Forum 3 times a day and ask people how to do things! And I'm even a TM!! I don't know much about 3D Studio, but if you are having problems drawing things like cars in AutoCAD, you should blame AutoCAD and not yourself–it's a very weak program when it comes to drawing certain kinds of 3D shapes.

#77218From: Dave Byrnes [AEC TM]Jan 18, 1994 9:34 PM
Jeffrey – I've been reading some messages here that indicate there are going to be several new 3D Studio books on the market real soon now. TM stands for Thread Master. Other forums call them Section Leaders or Assistant Sysops. They started off on the ACAD Forum before the ASOFT Forum existed, but I guess we do the same thing on each forum: namely, move messages around from section to section, change the subject headers when the message changes from what it says, and occasionally gather threads into files and upload them to the libraries. Most TMing still seems to be done on the ACAD Forum, but you see Kevin Krell and Craig Sharp here from time to time.

Dear Dave, I got 3D Studio to run in slave mode but I hear beeping from my computer as 3D Studio loads and it didn't save a rendered drawing of a 1957 Chevrolet Belair convertible in a file, even after turning on the "Disk" button in the Render View dialog box and I didn't get the file dialog box. Jeffrey.

Once again, can you please stop repeating all your messages 3 times! It's a very defective and very annoying thing to do, especially when I've already made creative suggestions about why you should NOT and need NOT do such a thing. Please don't blame your mother again or I'll have to give her a ring and tell her to switch off all your computers….

Dear Martin, Do you know of freeware CIS navigating programs for DOS? If you call Mommy on me, I will be mad at you. Jeffrey.

Jeffrey, OZCIS is a good CIS navigating program. If you behave I won't call your Mommy, just don't repeat your messages, please.

Log on to Compuserve and GO OZCIS, that'll get you to the forum, and look for the OZCIS files in the library.

Jeffrey, I,ve been using Acad since release 9, and 3ds since it was first released (release # 1, VERY SLOW RENDERING) , please be assured the majority of us are not Master Experts with this stuff, well with a few exceptions, most of us are LIKE YOU, we continue to try to BECOME Masters at it, but one thing must be kept in mind, 3ds r3 and Acad 12 are very complex and very powerful tools, its like having this huge tool box and the challenge is to lean to use each one individually and together. This is no easy task. As for books, I too would like to sample some of the "after market" books out there for 3ds, I know that when I first started to learn Acad it was those kind of books that were the most help. I can also say that the 3ds TUTORIAL is excellent in comparison to most software packages, I have found that I prefer to just "jump into it" and by pass the READING but with 3ds that does not work, I forced myself to go to the tutotial and follow it step by step, some of the stuff was boring, stuff I already knew, but alot I did not know, I found myself saying "OH WOW" alot. I am still working thru it and I've had 3ds r3 since it hit the streets. As for the Autodesk Training classes my personal feeling is that it is more for those who have A LOT OF MONEY to throw around and I don't believe you would learn any more there than you would by doing what you and most of us are doing, TRYING, TRYING,TRYING, reading the books, begining with the tutorial and don't give up….I've gotten to the point many times when giving up was looking like a reasonable solution, however, I've never given up, ON ANYTHING, in fact the tougher the challenge the more bull headed I get…..I BET YOU ARE JUST AS TOUGH ! Stay in touch Daniel

Dear Daniel, I went through the 3D Studio tutorials a few times and rendered some drawings that are on the CD-ROM disk a few times. I need a book that teaches me how to use 3D Studio, similar to "Inside AutoCAD" book. I called my Autodesk dealer and asked him for help in configurating 3D Studio for network rendering but he told me that he was not familar with network rendering until he tried it out himself and promised to leave me a message on his BBS. How can I delete the path and the dummy object in the Keyframer module? Jeffrey.
#77782From: Daniel R. MacKenzieJan 20, 1994 6:42 PM
Jeffrey, BOY I wish I had more than one system to work with ! 🙂 When you get time drop me a note and tell me about your stuff, how you got it and what you do with it, I'm jelous !! 🙂 AS for the dealer you asked for help with networking, sounds like a GOOD DEALER, honest, most dealers I know would GLADLY come and "help" even if they don't know what they are doing, FOR A BIG PRICE….! BG 🙂 I guess I hit the nail on the head when I assumed you were more than a little intelligent and sharp, getting that to "network" was no small accomplishment, if you don't think so just read some of the past threads (notes) on NETWORKING problems 🙂 As for deleting the path and the dummy object in the Keyframer, if you are sure thats what you want to do, the following will do it: in the Keyframer, select FILE select NEW select KEEP MESH this will reset TIME, NUMBER of FRAMES ect. to the default settings as well as delete the dummy object and path. Everything else should remain, just to be SAFE always SAVE your work before you do something like this, of course you KNEW that 🙂 You can delete just the dummy object by deleting just like you would any other object, as for the path, I have not found the need to do that recently, I know I've done it before, SOMEHOW, but I don't remember 🙁 If once in a while I don't respond to your notes right away it's because I don't always " hang out" here on the FORUM, sometimes it's a couple of weeks between visits, I keep up with the "news" ect., I've been here just about every night this week because I've been having gamma mismatching somewhere with my FIRST full color ad I created, had color separated to film and published, I've been accessing the many "experts" , like you, looking for answers. Stay intouch anyway…..maybe you can EMAIL me your phone number and address sometime. Daniel

Dear Daniel, Selecting FILE/NEW will give you a clean work space. Selecting FILE/MERGE will give you a dialog box that lets you keep or delete meshes, lights, cameras, and animation. I will try FILE-NEW and FILE-MERGE and keep meshes, lights, and cameras. Jeffrey.
