#Points on a spline?
9 messages in this thread
In Imagine 2.9:
How would I add points to a spline so I can convert it to an object that I can
SPIN to create an object?
Or is there some other way to do this?
More generically:
Spline editor is GREAT for creating smooth curves. How do I get points attached
to I can use the extrude types of functions in the detail editor?
In order to use a spline created in the spline editor, it must be a closed
shape. Select it and Add Points. Save Points and import this object into the
Detail Editor. Now, if you must, you can delete unwanted points and edges and
sweep the remaining shape. Or, you can perform any other changes you desire.

A friend of mine received 2.9 and it doesn't run. The computer's hard
drive light flashes for a while and then stops. The workbench screen is
there as if he did nothing.
His configuration is a stock 2000 with a GVP SCSI controller and hard
drive. 1 meg of chip ram and 2 megs of ram on an old C= RAM card. He is
operating under 2.04. He is using the .int version.
Is there something more he needs?
The first thing to check is whether or not the Imagine.pic is located in the
directory where the program is being launched. –Rick

Ok, I'll tell him to try that.

James,
It also sounds like he does not have enought memory, make sure that he
checks that first, Imagine is getting bigger and as such requires more
resources than before, This is do to the Undo buffer allotment and the gerenal
situation of loading the computer to run Imagine., I would be he needs more
memory, sorry but Imagine is no longer a little program, with all of these new
features, memory is going to become a premium.

Thanks for the reply. I have been telling him to upgrade to a 4000/040,
but he keeps putting it off. I can't imagine rendering on a stock 2000, he
has a lot of patience.
BTW… Regarding the problem with lowercase letters in the spline editor:
I took the advice of others and looked at the knots in the letters that
gave the crazy (intersecting) error. I found that a couple of them (knots)
were twisted (in a circle). I then rotated the knots to straighten them
out and all was ok. Hope this helps in your fixing it.

Yep, that was it. Worked fine.
Now, say I sweep a shape and get an object. Then I create another spline with
a different curve, turn in into an object, fracture and tweek it to get the
same # of points, then sweep it exactly as I did the 1st one. I now have 2
objects same # of points and faces, but different (wonderfully smooth) shapes.
How can I use STATES to morph from on shape to the other with a tacked down
texture map?
I went through the tutorial and can get it to work by tweeking a single object,
but tweeking the starting object shape to the final object shape would be a
nightmare.
Also, can I deform only slected faces of an object? Or do I have to do the
whole thing?
Thanks in advance (the first tip helped alot),
Jeff
Jeff, I don't know of a way to apply states to two different objects. You'll
have to go back to the traditional way of morphing objects in the Action
Editor. Tack your brush for the first object to its original shape, create a
default state; then mangle your object and create a second state. Save this
out. On your second object, tack the brush to its ending shape and create a
state. Then mangle it to some intermediate shape that is similar to the first
object's intermediate state.
Now begin the morph of object one in the first set of frames (say 1-30). At
frame 31, begin the morph of object two.
To smooth the transition between objects 1 and 2, I sometimes will add a
transparency map to simulate a cross dissolve and overlap the two objects by a
few frames.
