Is there any way to fade in a super title, using the character generator and the super feature on the toaster? When ever I load the title, I get the small slate, but pressing it just makes the title pop in. My only work around has been to use a frame store page with a black background rather than a key page. Then I use the disolve cruton, but the quality of the type is not as good as it is when the title is keyed in.

Fred, that's the only way to do it. If you are doing a title supered over a framestore , create another version of the framestore with the title and dissolve (or whatever) between them. Regards, Gary

Thanks, Gary, that's they way I was doing it, but I thought there might be a better way. Ah, ha. I just read my next two messages. One from Brad Hayes and the other from Stephen Poole. Both suggested that after I load the key frame, I press the space bar. Tried it and it works. No way to very the speed but the title does fade in. I was trying something by using the MX-50 and the Toaster. Because of the image shift, I was trapped into doing a super on the Toaster. I thought I had it made when I incressed my capacity to a B roll. Now, I could use a swither that has a C roll input. And if I ever get that I'll probably need a D roll. It never ends.

I assumed you knew how to dissolve the title in with the space bar…. it's a good idea to go over the manual once in a while. Regards, Gary

What do they say about assuming? Aim that at me not you. I did try reading the manual just before I posted my message. If it is there, it's burried.

Fred, It's in the Switcher section under "Loading and Displaying CG Pages", although the word "spacebar" doesn't appear. Did you start with Toaster 3.x? I guess my thinking about dissolving on titles as being most basic may come from all that time with 2.0. Gary

Thanks for the location of the information. As you guessed, I started with version 3.0. I bought the Amiga and Toaster a year ago in July. As least I'm getting in on the ground floor of the Flyer. So, we can all muddle around together. Are you going to the APV meeting in Pittsburgh in November? That is the one run by Brent and Roseanne Conrad. We went for the first time last year and was very pleased with the meeting. It is a lot smaller than Wedding Videography, but that also gives you a chance to spend more time with everyone.

Fred, I'm not familiar with APV. What's the event like? Gary

Gary, APV stands for The Association of Professional Videographers. I started getting their newsletter a couple of years ago. Then they stopped coming because I didn't join. About a year ago, some friends who we had first met at Roy Chapman's conference asked me if I was going to the APV conference. I asked for more information and when they sent me the information, I realized that it was the same group that I had received the newsletter from a year earlier. The thing I had liked about the newsletter was that it covered more than just wedding info. Brent and Roseanne Conrad run the association. At last years meeting, they started something called Special Interest Groups (SIG). They now have six such groups. Start-Up Business, Wedding/Event Video, Forensic Video, Industrial/Commercial, Special Interest Video and Multimedia/Interactive. Where Roy has put a lot of emphasis in how to make more money doing weddings and associated services, the Conrads are suggesting diversification. They have managed to get a couple of heavy speakers. Last year they had Lowell (I'm not sure about the spelling) the man who makes the Lowell Lighting system to talk about lighting and Dick Reizner (he writes for AV Video Magazine) to speak. The membership which includes a newsletter is $100 per year. The conference cost $200 and some dollars. The second person from the same company or spouse gets a reduced price. I have the flyer at the office and can get the exact information for you tomorrow. I think that there were about 300 people attending last year. Maybe a little less. They have an exhibit hall with a good turn out of exhibitors. You can call Roseanne at (814) 695-4325 for more information. They also have set up a forum on America Online or eWorld (ID: APV Online) Brent has a CIS account, but I don't have his ID number. Fred

By the way, the reason we lost dissolve speed control with version 3.0 is that they are using the levels of transparancy for the added title transparancy effects. [AGary

I think the dissolve speed should be controlled the same in 3.0 as in previous versions.

It would be nice.

Fred, This is no reason why you shouldn't be able to time your Toaster and MX-50 such that you have NO horzontal picture shift. In fact, I've set up several users on hybrid systems that are running both Y/C and composite. From the Y/C tape decks, the Y/C video runs directly to the MX-50 and on out to the Y/C edit deck – Y/C all the way. Also from the Y/C decks, we ran composite video to the Toaster, with Toaster Program going to input 3 or 4 of the MX-50. The MX-50 does an acceptable job of decoding composite video back into Y/C. With the built-in frame syncs on the MX-50, timing is greatly relieved. The trick, though, is to have a controllable reference signal feeding Toaster's input 1. This can be a camera with H and SC adjustments or any kind of slave black burst generator, such as a Toast Timer. With everything dialed in, you should be able to do match frame edits between the two.

Here's how I do it in 3.1 Create a key page in CG, and render it to disk for speed (opt.). Go to the switcher. Punch up the source you want to key over on the top bus (or both busses if you want). Load the CG page, then tap the space bar and the super will dissolve in, tap the space bar again and the super fades out. I hope this is what you're looking for.

Stephen, The space bar, that was the key. (pardon the pun) Thanks. This was just what I wanted to do. It would be nice if you could control the speed of the dissolve, but at least it works. Fred

Im not sure I understand your question or what you mean by, "the super feature on the toaster." If you are trying to key the page over video from inside the cg then go out to the switcher. If you are, Pressing the small slate, try the Auto trans button. There is no way to vary the speed of the fade on or off, but you certainly can fade them on and off. Brad Hayes H.V.C.

Brad, You understood me exactly. Thanks. I had been doing everything right except pressing the space bar. You and Stephen Poole gave me the information that I needed. It is a shame that you can't vary the speed of the dissolve, but that's NewTek. Thanks again. Fred

Yea! I think that you used to be able to but it whent a way in version 3.0. the other thing that I realy miss is that with the 3.0 software you cant type in the Bank and number of your ffaavorite effects any more. It was so nice to just type C35 and get a sacific wipe. In the imortal words of Jello Biafra, Ahhhhhhhhh, Wellllll!" Brad Hayes H.V.C.
