#sound sync.

Ara,
I thought I was the only one with the sound idea. Compuserve certainly
is enlightening isn't it?! My plan was to write a KXP external process to
dynamically "link" a wav file to a keyframe, assign a "microphone" to a camera,
and be able to modify the wav to reflect the relationship between the
"microphone" and the sound source. I.E. a carr whizzing by (apply a doppler
effect) or a sound producing object passing behind a wall briefly (muffle the
wav)
Each wav attached to each object per keyframe would be appended and modified to
reflect the current state of the geometry. One large wav would be produced
from the various wav base clips. The analagy here is various materials being
applied to a scene, mapped as they should be, and rendered to form the whole
enchilada! Piece of cake eh!
Any way, I have been tossing this around for a while, then decided to
check out the scene on Compuserve. Look's like I'm not the first, but I'd
certainly like to be involved if any one is serious about making this thing
work.
I'v had a bunch of C++ and written some ADS apps for Autocad, but this one's
beyond me. I've got some Ideas on how to make it work, though, especially if
3DS starts supporting AVI.
If you or anyone else has some more ideas, let's toss 'em around !!

Keep the ideas comming. Those sneeky programers are listenning!
Every bit of information and ideas will only do good and expand the
possibilities of this Ipas.
I am not a programer myself but i am staring to take c courses.
God knows what the future will bring.
I have to read your message a few more times before i totally understand how it
works! This is not exactly what my idea was! or is it?

Ara,
So, what's next? is there a group of us seriously pursuing this? I
find it to be an exciting endeavor, and one which could concievably add a whole
new dimension to 3D studio. Why can't sounds be rendered too!

Sound rendered??!! Thats a new point of view!!
I guess one could design a sound like one designs a texture map or a material!
Like an .sxp! The sound can be faded in and fade out or superimposed, and it
could be just an other extention of vp. with all the functions availible at the
sound level(like a sequenser)!!
I like this, but i only see it for special effect sounds. One can have little
sxp like modules the generate a particular style of sound with variations!
Also music can be digitized through some windows app. and brought in as an
additional line in this VP like sound extention to 3ds.
Then you will endup with a VP like interface with a bunch of lines of music and
sound fx sxp-like sound generators. Duration and overlaps and fades then can
all be controlled through This SP module (SP for Sound Post like VP is for
Video Post).
The more I think about it the cooler it sounds. Wow there is so much that can
be done!!!
As far as the original sound sync idea; I really dont know who is doing what.
There might be a bunch of programers already working on it!? I have no clue.
One of the distributers of 3ds an Ipas has shown some interest on it.
I personally am going to send all my ideas of interface and logic and
functinality to them.
This combined with all the ideas that comes out of these messages, I believe
will result in a fantastic Ipas.
As for as an orgnized effort; I dont know. I believe leaving messages here
about your ideas and contacting some of the programers personally is the only
way short of doing it yourself.
For me to do it on my own at this stage, with my present knowledge of C and
Ipas programing, it is not really a realistic option.
Tough i am taking classes in C for my future ideas for Ipas development??!! <g>
Thanks for the input and interest. I am sure these comunications are not going
to waste!
