just a note, but many MS programs do weird things with AMouse.
DOSShell (or as I prefer DOS Hell 😉 and other MS programs reverse
directions on entry. Guess they want to sell MS mice <g>.

Since COM2 is used by Janus, doesn't that leave COM3 as a second serial
port?
I know that WordStar 7.0 (not an MSDOS program!) doesn't like the mouse
either; however, I learned it in Apple CP/M days when mice were cartoon
characters running from Tom, Sylvester, etc.
Anyway, since I disabled WordStar's mouse support, it works fine for
me. Others might object to the loss of the mouse.
Amouse is not a perfect emulation! :-\
Also, I am running Novell DOS 7; consequently, I use EDIT, DOSBOOK,
etc. which are not MSDOS programs. Quicken also ….

I use both COM3 and COM4. They seem to be open, although the BIOS
doesn't like the interrupt I selected for COM4.

What interrupts did you select for COM3 and COM4?
BTW, I replaced that 40 MB hardcard that gave us such a problem
starting last year (after solving the problem). I sold it and a RAM board
for expanded memory to my brother to update his floppy Leading Edge XT
computer. (The solution was an upgrade to Novell DOS 7 to use its 386
memory manager.) Now I have an external 330 MB Maxtor IDE drive. The
extra room is luxurious!
(Rats! I'm going to shoot my daughter because she let the cats in.
They're so curious!)

Gayle,
I set COM4 to IRQ 5 and it works just fine for any program that allows
you to set the serial port to such, in this case CIS Manager.
Please don't shoot the cats. Just acknowledge that they own the whole
of your household and you'll get along just fine. When they put their
butts in front of your face (when you are looking at the monitor), just
push to one side or the other. They'll get the idea fairly quickly. They
hate computers, as I can attest, but they learn after about six months or
so.
I had a very nice Labor Day weekend. I was born on Labor Day.

Actually, Sandy and Scrappy appear to like the computer and will
'helpfully' walk across the keyboard and the printer. Scrappy likes the
warmth of the monitor. The 3rd cat Bagheera Ratsel likes StarTrek. I
think I caught him napping on top of a box of StarTrek books with his head
underneath the flap. Obviously he was reading just before sleeping.
