#Mattes & Video

As John & Glenn said, yes, you'll need to generate a separate "flying matte"
tape, but you don't want to turn anti-aliasing off. The softer anti-aliased
edge will be much cleaner than a hard aliased edge, with less artifacts. You
may also want to render your "image" animation over a color similar to the
color of the background video if possible.

Okay, you're saying that using the true alpha channel as the matte will work
best. But why then would I need to worry about rendering the animation over
anything but black. The matte should handle the comp right? Thanks.

The matte will handle compositing the image, true, but the keyer in your
switcher is an analog device, and depending on how clean a key it'll do, you
can get some edge showing through. I just try to be safe, it really shouldn't
matter if the video you're using as a bg is relatively busy, but if it was a
cloudless blue sky for example, I'd render with blue bg that was as close as
possible to that color.

Mike, Is Mike ok? <g> Hey thanks a lot for the tip on using the same color bg.
It took me a little while to really get it but now that I do it makes perfect
sense. Cool.
