#Blure Ink?
8 messages in this thread
How does one BLURE an animated mask? The SOFTEN ink does very little, even on
multiple applications of the tool. I'm surprised there is no such filter
available. I tried importing the Photoshop Gaussian Blure into AniStudio and it
does not work. Any ideas?

hi Reza.
i'm not sure if it's possible to BLUR a mask… i guess it's back to the
experimentation labs for me. <g> regarding the use of BLURing for any image,
SOFTEN ink (as with most inks) has property settings. Right clicking on the ink
name will bring up the properties dialogue, and you can vary the degree of
softening with the Sampling Range parameter… try it at 5 (full right) for
intense blurring.
If this level of blurring is still not enough, try a combination of JUMBLE Ink
(start off with small doses) and then apply SOFTEN Ink. if this process works
for you (this is some pretty heavy blurring), you can automate the double
application of this these inks (to all frames if necessary) using the relative
Macro facility in AAS. hope this helps.

Thank you Dave. I'll give it a try. If I'm unable to use AAS to BLURE my mask,
it sounds like i have to dish out another $300 to buy the Yost Group's IPAS
disk that has a BLURE process for 3DS and i really don't want to do that. If
the Yost Group is listening …. Simple things like a BLURE tool must be an
integral part of $3000 animation program and people should not have to pay for
these tools. Anyway, again thank you dave for your time.

i hope that either way, you won't have to pay for anything till you're sure the
prouct will do what you need it to. in all honesty, i have neverheard of a
blurred mask (area where pixel or register values are locked), but already i'm
having ideas about how such a think could be useful! <gg>

Dave,
IMO, a blurred mask would not be a 1-bit image (as it is in Animator Pro) it
would be a 256 level grayscale image. The gray value would control the
"density" of the incoming ink. The logical extension is that the mask is a FLC
file itself?
Maybe something like that already works in Animator Studio?

yup. i see where you're going with this… a percentage of ability to affect a
pixel with any ink. wow! it's not in there right now… but i wonder if a
series of techniques could duplicate the effect.
for example… a series of overlapping masks assembled by HLS or RGB… hmmm…
getting all sorts of idea… onionskin back one frame to see the original image
without changing it, current frame to create the unblurred maskbase using color
ink, use varying levels of SOFTEN ink to build the maskbase, use selection
(marquee or wand) to assemble mask levels by tolerances, create masks as series
of overlapping selection sets, apply ink using relative macros. might work.
hmmm. back to the labs.

Dave,
Don't work to hard, check out Adobe Premiere for some ideas – alpha channel
mattes and image mattes. It requires a whole lot of calculating, but hey,
what's hardware for…
(Photoshop gives you still equivalents of masks with gradients.)

true. true. <gg> i will. thanks for the recommend. i will also be experimenting
with AAS… just got this thing for puzzles… there's gotta be a way…

kewl. i know someone in program development who would like to hear about this.
