Bob I'm creating a very simple box as in packaging box, how much simpler can you get! and I have a problem! The objects: 1. A box! (7.25 x 9 x 1.5 ") the front of which receives a front bitmap. 2.The side (9 x 1.5")(paper thin) to receive side bitmap. 3.The back (7 x 9")(paper thin) to receive back bitmap The maps: Bitmaps (3 tiffs) are to fit the front (big box) both sides and the back. The tiffs were created for the most part in photoshop & HRQFX. The problem is w/ the decalled bitmaps of the 2 attached sides and back used to carry the side and back bitmaps. the bitmaped front attached to the main box is perfect beyond my expectations…….the side and back however have a semicircular white, half ellipse that extends into the map from the top that is of a more course rez than the map! this occurs on the side "attached" box and the back but not the main box which has the front bitmap! In the mat editor: for the sides and back with "decal" turned "on", I get the ellipse, but with "tile" turned "on", it does not appear (the repitition makes this unusable though)! Again, I don't have this problem w/ the front map on the main box object, just the sides and back! I hope this is clear enough, I never dreamed something this simple could have probs! BTW judging from the yearbook photos…….hey, dude, loose the shades….you look like you just stepped off the set of a movie like "risky business"! The only shocker was Ted Boardman….I thought ZZ Top was a Texas phenom! Gary Yost and the other yosties all look as I thought they would! Gary (JKF jr's lookalike-not!) Angle

Make sure the Tifs don't have an alpha channel. I've run into some pretty strange things when using 32 bit tifs. If they do, just bring them back into Pshop or Qfx and lose the alpha. Just an idea… David, BLUR

David Thanks, 3ds doesn't like alpha as you said! I tried Losing alpha but still getting the same recults. In the Mat Ed the cube display shows an ellipse cutting into the top of the cube and going across to the far face! Still i only get this prob when I set Decal and not when I use tile! I'll try the alpha solution one more time, maybe I missed something! Thanks for your help!!!Gary

>Thanks, 3ds doesn't like alpha as you said! I tried Losing alpha but still getting the same recults PMJI, but I've run into this alpha quirk with 32-bit tiffs as well. It may be voodoo, but my problems almost always start after saving a tif in Photoshop with compression on. I don't think it's so much a fault with 3DS more likely the fact that there really isn't one single way to save out a tif. Once I've loaded a material that's calling one of these hybrid tifs, and then reloaded a corrected tif, I've found the materials seem to have a memory. My work around has always been to recreate the material with the new alpha-stripped tiff. If you want to save a file with an alpha intact, I'd suggest saving a 32-bit targa.

Gary: >> .hey, dude, loose the shades….you look like you just stepped off the set of a movie like "risky business"! << What and show you my Mary Feldman eyes? <G> Hey, sorry I didn't get back to you with an answer to your querry but I had some honeymooning to do. Nasty business that swimming, snorkelling, body-surfing, lying around on the beach with your honey stuff but someone's gotta do it. <BG> – Bob Ritger
