Well..bang! On my desk at my office, I've got a 3000 0'30-16..It was working fine when I left (screen saver displaying the time)..Came in yesterday, moved the mouse WB came back clicked on the icon for one of my harddrives, the window opened but never finished displaying what was on the drive…(sigh). I turned off the machine and turned it back on and–nothing..plain white screen. No drive activity, nothing. I opened it up and disconnected the drives; still nothing. I don't get a WB disk prompt, just the white screen.. Can any of you longtime Amiga take-it-aparters,fix-it,put-it-back-together type of people give me a clue.. Unfortunately I don't think the company is going to want to fix it for me (we don't do alot of Amiga stuff anymore). They'll want me to settle with my mac and pc…ick poo blah!@#@! thanks all.. Alex

Alex, I *believe* that's a CPU error. Don

Alex, I've seen the 8520's do this sort of thing. One of the 3000's I worked on had an 8520 that literally fried- it got hot enough to burn the fingers. Another system had a flakey clock delay line- after about 4 minutes it heated up and one of the delay taps faded away… that also caused a grey screen if you tried to reboot after it failed. There are a lot of things that can cause the grey screen. For a first attempt, I suggest opening the machine up & pressing down on the socketed chips and the Zorro daughterboard. Alex, I have already read the other 2 replies, I hope mine is a better solution for you. It sounds like mabe your hard drive went bad. I say thisbecause It happened to me on my A500 one time. I had just recieved my A2000Impact series 1 SCSI card (this was in 1989, and the card had no hard driveon it, just 2MB RAM), installed it in my ToolBus expansion chassis, and uponturning my machine on, I got nothing but a grey screen. It turns out that Ihad the SCSI card set to AutoBoot, and there was no Hard drive to boot from,so it hung there. I don't know if the A3000 has a way of dealing with harddrives in this situation, but turning off AutoBoot fixed my problem until Igot a hard drive. So, just check out your hard drive, make sure it spins atleast before going after the hard-to-find chips. Good luck! –IBM compatable technician by day, Amiga madman by night– Rick Green, Mobile, Al

Before trying anything radical, completely disassemble the system (drive bays included) and press EVERY socketed chip into place, including the memory ZIPs. I've had to do this a couple of times over the past few years due to various odd symptoms resulting in no-boot situations. Way ahead of you..unfortunately no luck so far (thanks all for suggestions). I pulled everything out. I don't think it's the harddrive (disconnected all drives from the bus and still nada (no WB prompt). I thought it might be something to do with RAM (I had installed some new zip stuff last week) but it doesn't look like it. I pulled all the zip ram and set the jumper (J852) to the 256×4 position and tried it with dips. still nothing… As for a possible cpu error I guess I could take my 3640 (2640?)..my 0'40 board out of my tower at home and stick it in this machine to see what happens..I know it won't fit right but it's only a test so I figure I can keep the drive frame high enough to see if it works. Since the board is in a 3000T now I shouldn't have to be changing jumpers or anything should I (my tower was an 0'40 from day one so it doesn't have a processor on the motherboard)? I wish I had a set of spare chips that I could swap out with (I don't feel inclined to start pulling all of the chips out of my tower).. Any other suggestions all? Alex
