Hello, I remember hearing that you had a Sanyo GVR-S950, and that you received a replacement unit because of problems. Is it still working out? I sent mine away for 8 weeks to Sanyo in Chicago, and they were "unable to reproduce the problem." Well, after ten minutes it was obvious to me that I was still getting tape wear, dropout, whatever. Three months to get the stinking thing, then two months waiting for nothing, I'm really pissed off. I am looking at a pretty intense project coming up, and I need some decent equipment. FWIW, I'm currently having problems with the SCSI interface for my optical drive, my new video monitor is screwed, my video camera is ready to die, my 3/4" deck won't eject tapes, and I've got a mystery conflict between devices wreaking havoc with my apps. The only thing that seems to work right is 3DS! Anyone have anything good to report on the Sanyo? Paul D. Sanford [LEVEL 5]

What are you using for video output to tape? Targa+? Brent Bonet – POP! Multimedia Atlanta

>>What are you using for video output to tape? Targa+?<< Yes, a Targa+64. The output looks fine real time, but the frame-by-frame seems to damage the tape. Paul

I just mentioned it because my first animations were written to a CRV disk and ended up with a lot of noise. I was told to change a setting on the Targa+64 to get rid of it. I haven't had the need to do it yet, but this might be part of your problem unless you've tried it and seen a clean picture using another type of deck. Sorry I can't tell you the fix but I'm on the road with my laptop. I'll be home Friday if you still need the info. I think Kevin Krell was the one with the answer. Brent Bonet – POP! Yes, I do fine with still work. I primarily output still graphics (speaker support) to CRV with my Targa+64 using RIO or 3DS. When I get home I'll try to remember to find the note…you might shoot me another note on Friday to remind me. Brent Bonet – POP! Multimedia Atlanta

I am sorry that the deck is not working . The first one did not work well, but the replacement deck works> very well< . My dealer replaced it in two days! I use it a lot with little probloms. Make sure that you use high quality tape and cableing . [you know this] Are you useing a Targa card and 3DS to drive the deck? I would make a Big skink to get the updated deck…. :[ -Brandon

Looks fine on its own, but the frame by frame output from the Sanyo is terrible. Definitely worse than when I sent it in! The question now is do I try another Sanyo, or just go with a PAR like I should have in the first place. Paul

Paul, For What it's worth our dealerships Sanyo GVR-S950 started exhibiting "Tearing" at the top of the screen and this almost appeared "overnight", not something that we could see as something gradual. The solution was for us to send it out to Sanyo Tech. Support Directlyout in Compton California…PHONE: 310-605-6527…FAX: 310-605-6529. You Should try to contact Mike Koba Directly as he is the Western Reginal Service center person responsible for solving our problems. All you need is proof of purchase and an RMA number from Mike. He's located at 1200 West Artesia Blvd. in Compton CA 90220. Mike told me the problem had something to do with the "a" "b" heads being out of alignment..whatever that means. <g> Bottom Line… He fixed it!! It was under warrenty and only cost us the shipping plus a two week wait. I still think with the PAR and Matrox MAX out there that the Sanyo GVR-S950 will find limited use and due to some brain surgeons decision to actually INCREASE the cost to the distributor therefore the dealer without changing the suggested retail we will see very little use of this product in the future. I enjoy the use of our unit however since we are a DPS PAR and MATROX MAX dealer we are in the process of putting together the RenderGarden with 5 Pentiums in a Matrox Max component out to BetaSP & S-VHS Decks. We're also looking at competing Editing Solutions. Murph'

Thanks for the info on support for the Sanyo, I'll check it out. Much as I wish I'd bought a PAR, I do/will get a lot of use out of a two deck setup. I already have a 3/4" deck, but it lacks the hi-fi sound on the S-VHS. I plan to buy a second S-VHS deck for editing and sound. That is, IF the GVR-S950 gets taken care of QUICKLY. By the way, I posted a note last week looking for PAR dealers and/or distributors. Can you fit either bill? I'll be buying one to dump to the 3/4" if the Sanyo thing falls through. Are you in Appleton, WI, or just nearby? I woud have liked to have made it out there in August, but was short on cash. Thanks again, Paul
