Malcolm, about GPFax.
I assume you have checked the autoanswer box on the options screen ? Also do
not try and set autoanswer on the modem throught the init string (found in
tooltypes in the GPFax icon), let GPFax do it for you.
Also don't try and edit the init string from within the program (under
environment if I recall correctly), it won't keep after you exit the program.

Dear Steve, yes I checked-on the autoanswer box. I can receive manually just
fine but not in autoanswer mode, which makes it a bit difficult. I also wonder
how one is supposed to specify the number of rings before the machine picks up.
I have queried Supra about this but aside from telling me to click the
autoanswer box on and everything would be cool and fruity they haven't
responded. Which pisses me off as I paid enough for this damn modem. Is this
likely to be a software problem or a hardware problem? I know there are
supposed to be some adjustments to make in the modem but I dare not try without
understanding what I'm getting into. Any suggestions you can give would be

Malcolm, I'm not sure I can be of much help 'cos I don't know Supra modems, but
just in case it applies I can tell you about how my USR does it !
There is a DIP switch for auto answer on the modem. If Autoanswer is disabled
this could be the problem.
There is also an S register (command ATSr=n) which affects autoanswer. In my
case its register 0 so r=o. The value for n determines the number of rings,
with 0 disabling auto answer. Try looking in your manual for something similar.
This setting should be made for you by GPFax according to the number of rings
you enter on the Environment screen.
Now look in your GPFax icon's tooltypes (or under init string on the
environment screen) and see if there is something like that in there.
Hopefully some Supra expert can jump in and help.
BTW, my manual says the init string for Supra is simply AT&F2E0. I assume you
installed GPFax for Class 2 modems (which is what you should have for Supra).
