HELP 🙂
I have had this problem for some time now. I have an Amiga 3000 using
either a Postscript driver and a Laser Jet IIP Driver. I have the HP
LaserJet IIP printer which I can run in either postscript mode (Pac Data
Postscript Cartridge) or the HP PLC (or is it PCL) mode. Here is what
haapens:
Lets say I have a 4 page document. I use Excellence, Pen Pal, Scribble, you
name it. I set the top and bottom margins to zero. I can also set them like
normal with 6 spaces on top and 6 on bottom. The first page prints just
fine with the correct margins as set, but the next page has 3 spaces (blank
lines) added to the top, then the next page (page 3) gets yet another 3
spaces added. This is text creeping? I have my computer and printer set to
the following:
Lines of text = 66 and have used many others.
Right margin = 65 and have used many settings.
Left margin = 05
The printers number of text lines is the same:66. I have tried using lines
of text set at 60, 63, and many others. No results. The computer and
printer will do this in both Postscript and regular HP mode.
BUT, when I use Propage in Postscript mode, no problems 🙂 I just can't
figure this out??? Does anyone have this same problem?
This has been very frustrating, I just can't seem to figure this one out.

This is a bit odd, Jamie. If I read your message correctly, you *have*
tried your preferences setting at 60 lines per page with your HP set for
the same. These are the values you should use. They are recommended by
HP. There's an unprintable top and bottom margin that reduces the amount
of possible text, unless you want to fiddle around with the Verticle Motion
Index…
I doubt you want to do that, though. Anyone else think o' something?

Thanks Paul 🙂 I did try the 60 lines of text on both the Computer and HP.
No luck, I'll try once more and make sure. Thanks for you help.

I just read somewhere – over in CBMSER, I think – that there is now a
Workbench 1.3.3 that has corrected printer drivers for the HP so that it
prints the correct number of lines on a page. The message was posted by
Greg Givler within the past two or three days, if you want to look for it.
I'm not sure yet how they intend to distribute this update – but I did
leave a note asking Greg about it.

It has been years since I used an HP printer on one of my amigas…. I do
seem to remember having some fits with it like you are describing. Memory
being the unreliable thing that it is…… Have you tried something like
0 for the form length? That sounds vaguely right.

Thanks Bill, I have tried using zero top and bottom margins. I think it may
be in my software. I have found that some programs send the extra lines and
some don't. Ppage works great and Pen Pal does too. But some of the others
send the extra 3 spaces. I'll keep searching 🙂

Here's a suggestion, but I don't promise anything…
Set the printer page on the LaserJet to 60. Set the Preferences page
to 60. Set the word processed page to something under 60.
If that doesn't work, try setting the printer page on the LaserJet to
66, keep the other settings the same as above.
I'm sure you'll need to experiment. I have a LaserJet Series II, and
have had it hooked up to the Amiga with satisfactory results (as long as I
wasn't trying to print graphics…).
