A2320 & Monitor!

I know I've been getting some vauluable information on my NEC 3D with the
new A2320 card and I will answer each suggestion when I get a shot at it.
I was wondering if there was an adjustment insider the montior which would
allow me to increase the horizontal size of the screen. I have
approximately 1/4 of an inch on each side of the monitor with is black. I
also have a very SQUARE workbench.
Does anyone know if there is an adjustment within the montior that will
stretch the display that 1/2" that I need and return the workbench to a
more normal aspect ratio. I'm good with a soldering iron and tools since I
do have an electrical engineering. Remember the vertical size is just fine
which warps the ratio of vertical to horizontal. I'd appreciate any
assistance anyone can provide and of course I'll share anything I can learn
with all of you.

Most monitors (or TVs for that fact) have both a width and
horizontal linearity control inside them. Width obviously adjusts the
width, the linearity adjusts the horizontal sweep waveform so that the beam
is swept at a uniform speed across the entire horizontal line. Thus the
size of a letter 'm' (or any other letter) is the same physical width no
matter where it is in a line.
Monitors that are out of linearity would show the text "scrunched"
at some point on the line while it would appear "stretched" at another
point.
In any event, horizontal linearity also affects the width. The two
controls should be tweaked one after the other until the width is both
satisfactory and linear.

Thanks for the info, I'd been thinking about that sort of thing since I got
the 2320. I've got a Multisync 3D here and the more I think about it the
more I think the characters vary from place to place on the screen. I
wouldn't be surprised if it's way out of alignment. The store I bought
from turns out to be not very reputable, of course I found out after I
bought from them.
Since the 3D has a two year warranty on it and I have one year left I'm
going to have it checked out before making a judgement on the 2320. My
dealer here is going to loan me an A1950 when he gets the next one in.
That way I can keep the Amiga and PC up and running while the NEC goes to
the hospital. Thanks for the input, I needed another angle to think about
as I was just about to give up!

I have an A2500 with a FlickerFixer and 1950 monitor and I'm still trying
to solve the problem you describe. I have a one inch black border on the
right edge of the screen when the screen is centered. Using the external
monitor controls I'm able to get rid of the border, but then the screen is
shifted so far to the right that the right edge of the screen is almost cut
off and the screen is not centered. It was easy to cure when I'm using my
hard drive. I just changed the Workbench preferences. However, when I boot
from a floppy, which doesn't have its preferences changed, I have the same
problem again. Since I use my floppies mostly for copy-protected games, I
have not changed the Preferences on these disks. Also, I have a large disk
collection, and many of them are not on my harddrive. I would like to avoid
having to change Preferences on all these disks, both games and non-games
alike. I am still looking for a solution. Apparently, there are no internal
monitor controls that will cure the problem. Someone told me the problem is
inherent in VGA monitors, which is the mode in which I must use my monitor
with the FlickerFixer. If you find out a cure, please let me know and I
will do the same.

I am operating on a very hazy memory at the moment, but I seem to recall
that the FlickerFixer docs address the problem with the extra wide overscan
area of monitors like the NEC 3D and I think they even inlcuded some sort
of utility to use some if not all of that space as additional screen width.
See if you can find a flickerfixer owner who can confirm this maybee the
software would word with the A2320 as well. Most likely I am just dreaming
all this and even if I wans't the odds of the software working with the
A2320 are probably slim (although I think it is a mod to Amiga Dos and not
to the flicker fixer), but it can't hurt you to try and find out.
