>>John, >> I'd love to chime in on the CC bashing. It took me 4 months and cost >>me better than a hundred bucks, not to get a CD player from them. >>It's said complaining can be theraputic. I'm done. >>-Jim- Jim don't worry you were not the only one not satisfied with CC. However I was screwed by them once and after that I never bought from them again…. It is just a shame that I personally was not happy with many of the Amiga dealers that I have come in contact with… {Not that Commodore was not to blame for a few of my problems with dealers.}

Scott, PMJI. I have only bought a couple things from Creative Computers and the last time, an OpalBoard and HD drive where a real experience: I ordered and everything was fine. However, they failed to update my address in the shipping department (it seems they have two databases) and the package got returned by FedEx. I called them up and after arguing with them (on MY long-distance charges) that in fact it was THEY who screwed up they sent me a replacement. So I got the delivery about a week later than I should have. It doesn't end there: about a month after that, they called up and asked if I wanted a credit on my card for the returned merchandise or for them to send me the package again. I did a double take and then realised they didn't have a record of sending me the replacement (because the two packages passed in the mail). I could have either gotten a second OVBoard & drive or CA$900 back. Being the brutally honest person I am (and fearing they would find out eventually) I had to explain to them that I already had the merchandise. It took them quite a while to understand. To their benefit, they DID credit my card for the shipping charges (which essentually covered the long-distance phone charges). The next product I purchased was from a another mailorder co. but I won't shun CC because, although they are inept, they did give me satisfaction in a more or less timely fashion. I have a Creative Computers story to tell. They lost my business over this one. While living is Memphis TN in 1990, I bought a GVP 3001 accelerator for my A2000. This was when RAM prices where out to lunch, and Creative advertised that you could buy the 3001 now and get the memory daughter board latter. A year an 1/2 later, living in CA, I had the cash to buy the daughter board so I call up Creative. Memory prices had gone down by then, and they were no longer selling the 3001 with the memory daughter board, which I could understand. What I could not understand is that they said they could not sell me a daughter board separate. All they had to do was order one from GVP for me, but they refused. I had to call GVP and get the name and phone number of a dealer in FL to buy one. Not only was their behavior rude and unethical, it was stupid, because I never bought mail order from them again (nor will I). Another thing to note about CC. I lived a hour or so from LA and I visited their locations there a few time (and I admit I broke down once and bought some software there). They had the most terrible service I have ever seen, in both of there store. At their Santa Monica store, I watched a frustated lady wait at the cash register for about 15 minutes to buy a Mac while the employee chit chatted with a friend of this on the phone. You could walk arround for a hour in one of their stores without anyone saying as much as BOO to you. These were not isolated incidents but a summary of about 6 visits in 3 years. I can't understand how they make money. ._ _ _ INTERNET: mshea@math.arizona.edu | | |ichael _>hea COMPUSERVE: 76665,3360

Michael, Thanks for your story. >> I can't understand how they make money. Mailorder?? I understood that the storefronts were only there to justify the mailorder business. IE., by having a storefront they could then be Amiga (and Mac???) dealers. In your situation, re: the daughter board, I don't know if I'd call what they did as unethical but definitely inconsiderate and stupid. It also may have been a requirement by GVP to not sell the db separate. GVP used to have fairly strict rules to support their dealer network, as I understand it. It's also possible that because it was a special item that it would cost CC (and in the end, you) too much to order. In my experience through CC mailorder I had both really enthusiastic sales people and total dullards. Maybe they got rid of the enthusiasts. 8^) Andrew ICAM — ActiveMedia Development / IICS "InforMedia" Newsletter Editor Gliding in from Toronto on AutoPilot…

I would call it unethical, when both GVP and CC promised via advertizing that I could buy the daughter board latter. I think if Creative advertized it, they had an obligation to come through. GVP came through, giving me the phone number for Amazing Computers out of Florida. All they did was serve as a middleman, they ordered the board from GVP and sent in on to me. Creative could have done this also. ._ _ _ INTERNET: mshea@math.arizona.edu | | |ichael _>hea COMPUSERVE: 76665,3360

Michael, Well, I see your point but I still think it was just inconsiderate of them. Business's have a right to change policies. Now, if they had charged you extra for that priviledge then absolutely, it would have been unethical. Anyway, at least you got the part. Michael, Over the years I've had both good and annoying experiences with CC. On the whole, the good balance out the bad. The bad experiences were in the long run fixed. DJ On AP from Queens, the thrill and excitement of the Big Apple Where a little paranoia keeps you healthy and sane …
