I have created objects in the 2d shaper to use as matte objects by tracing over the background, this will be used to hide animated objects which will appear to be going through the cross sectional view of the background picture. I have aligned all the matte objects in the editor over the the background however when I move into the keyframer the objects have all shifted position. How do I get the geometry to stay the same in the Keyframer as it is in the 3d editor? Regards Steve

Hi Steve, << How do I get the geometry to stay the same in the Keyframer as it is in the 3d editor? >> New/Keep Mesh and New/Keep Mesh and Hierarchy (pg 3-19 Ref Man) commands that may help you. << this will be used to hide animated objects which will appear to be going through the cross sectional view of the background picture >> In this case, doesn't the Object Attributes/Matte Object (pg 7-107), help you? jonas[adesk]

Jonas, Thanks for the quick response! I left my manual at home, I am fine with the object attributes, (matte object). I will have to check manual when I get home regarding the New/Keep Mesh. I tried New/Keep Mesh in the Keyframer but nothing changed, I need the positioning that is set up in the 3D Editor to come into the Keyframer exactly. Regards Steve

Check also that your camera doesn't have an inadvertent key set. – Jack

Jack, After arriving at home tonite I checked the manual. The only thing I can think of is that my PRJ file that I saved into has some sort of strange setup, such as the viewport might be zoomed more in the Keyframer than the 3D Editor. I did in fact try rezooming in the Keyframer, however it got me closer, even using the shift zoom icon, but I still had to rescale the geometry to cover the background bitmap. I also checked to see that I was at keyframe 0 in the keyframer. I will try saving the geometry as a 3ds mesh instead, do a reset and load the 3ds file, and see if indeed it has something to do with my project file. Jack I do not have any camera viewport active or assigned I am using the front view port only BTW I am using a 3DS.PRJ file on bootup how do you get the default to load? or is there a default, I forgot. Regards Steve

>> such as the viewport might be zoomed more in the Keyframer than the 3D >> Editor Non-camera viewports are not terribly consistent, that is, there is no convenient way to guarantee a certain magnification. Try using a camera view instead. It may be a little more difficult to align your matte objects, but you would have infinitely more control over your field of view. If you must use a non-camera view, try dropping in a rectangular box into your scene. Zoom in to an area selected by the corners of this box. In the keyframer you can zoom to the same corners and will have a much closer match. – Dave

See Dave's message regarding orthographic views in the Editor vs. the Keyframer. If you turn on snap, you should be able to move a camera to a Front view position, and then use the Perspective command to force it to an isometric perspective. Then your Keyframer view will match your Editor view. Re the 3DS.PRJ file, if you want the system default on startup, simply delete or rename the 3DS.PRJ file. – J
