#Another X-specs pic

Phil – It looked pretty darn good! I just finished digging up my VS3D 2.0
object disk, and started moving the objects over. with the 020/882 I
should be able to solid model in 3min or less per pic. Look Out! <grin>
I'll look up videolynx. if you have any more reviews on the toaster for
that purpose, i'll look into it too. do you have any idea how much ram i
would be looking at for storage of the video? (about 30 secs. of b/w with
some reasonable amount of gray) the whole device will be in an environment
like an off-road vehicle or airplane, so moving parts would like to be kept
to a minimum. that's why i'm hoping to use electronic memory and some
compression scheme. the video upon playback only has to differentiate
between different objects, so the gray levels don't have to be as deep as a
classic movie.
If you're going to put this into a moving vehicle I would suggest using
telementry to transmit the video to a stationary vcr. I've done this with
model airplanes before. Makes for real neat videos. If you have a Ham
liscense you could experiment on the 70 cm band. Several cheap transmitters
are available.
How much are these portable, tiny video transmitters? Sounds like a fun
gizmo.
Well how much is hard to answer. I've seen one you could build for under
$40.00 if you can handle surface mount. Look in 73 Magazine within the
last 4 months for the Micro ATV transmitter article. To purchase the
devices prebuilt you are probably looking at $125.00 and up. Not including
cameras. But remember, you must have a valid Amateur Radio ( HAM ) license
to operate these transmitters. But, with NO-Code Technician license now
available, that's not a problem. There was also an article in a past Radio
Electronics on a pretty high powered ATV transmitter kit / construction
project. Hope this helps. If you are REAL interested in Amateur TV I would
suggest looking the HAMNET on CIS for more info / license info / study
guides.
$125 is a good price, what does that give me? A tiny gizmo, or a big box?
It sends video across the air – color or mono, with what kind of noise?
I've got friends who do RC car racing, they'd love this one.
It sends Video and Audio ( usually audio is included ) via 432 MHZ FM.
Check out the latest RC Modler, I found a couple of adds for Video Xmtrs
there. Or look in any recent 73 or CQ magazine ( ham radio ) The full blown
high wattage jobs are usually under 300.00 If you are going to be in the
air with it lower wattages will work. The units are usually very small.
Hams send them up in balloons quite often and get pictures sent down from
100,000 feet! The video can be recieved on a cable ready TV. Not real sure
of the exact frequency but I think it's around Channel A.
