David, Sorry to be so abrupt, but the line limit keeps my messages short. It's a long story, and it takes a little space to explain it all. Breifly, My problem has been with a mail order vendor that did not provide me withe working product that I had ordered. (a hard drive & controller) My check was dated 7/22/88. I have since sent all of the hardware back, and have been waiting on a refund. Gail Anderson (of KPRC TV, channel 2 Houston) has probably been the most effective contact I have made. I have contacted Amiga magazines, the Better Business Bureau, the US Postmaster, and TV stations & newspapers in that area of Texas. In general, Computer Mart does not answer to my complaints. At last resort, they attempt to provide misinformation. Now Gail informs me that Mr. Shannon Abernathy (President of Computer Mart) has informed her that my complaint has been settled. (Not true) My phone log will give you a perspective on the difficulty I have had with this company, but please forgive me for my typos(!) I'll attempt to clean up the typos for the next version. Also, I did not include copies of all the letters I have received from various sources around the country. Personally, I cannot recommend anyone make a purchase from that company. (I hope that helps you understand my problem.) – Dave

I certainly do! Thank you for the info; it's always useful to know about the bad eggs in the 'puter-selling business. And it of course points out why we should always be wary of mail-order. I will read your download file as soon as I have a chance. In the meantime, good luck in getting the matter settled satisfactorily. BTW: Gail Anderson is VERY good, and having met her once I know she's certainly capable of helping you. But did you even consider Marvin Zindler? I DON'T like him, but he certainly leaves people quaking in their boots! No reply necessary; just making sure you've thought of it. Probably much better to stick with Gail, though. She's terrific. Good luck again. DAVE

Thanks, Dave, for the reply! I certainly do appreciate it… Uhmmm… actually, I think I contacted over a dozen stations in that area of Texas and Gail was the one that has followed up on my complaint. (I only contacted two stations in Houston.) – I'venever been to Texas myself, but I have a friend that livd there for a short time who has some EXTREMELY fond memories of Marvin Zindler… However, he couldn't remember which station Marvin was with, so I was just crossing my fingers. However, Gail has followed up in a very professional manner, has kept me posted, and she seems very determined to follow through. And no doubt, she has followed through with my problem perhaps more than any of the other angencies that I have contacted. I am pleased that she is willing to help! Anyway, I think my file is not quite up to snuff yet, in that I haven't included copies of the correspondence I have received. I am in the process of typing those up, to try to keep up to date. Things should be much more clear when I have included those letters. – Finally, I have quite a few friends that would have been hurt more than I to lose $903.00 to a mail order vendor, and if I have helped any of them, (to avoid this situation), then I suppose it will have been worthwhile. I'm hoping that if anybody else runs into this type of difficulty, that they might be able to use my file to get through the problem. I think Amiga users have got to feel that they have somebody or something to help them in circumstances similar to this. – Dave

What was the disk drive manufaturer name? was it C LTD?
#28613From: David HammFeb 2, 1990 1:08 AM
Dan, The disk drive was manufactured by Seagate. It was an ST277N 65 megabyte drive…. I contacted Seagate, or more precisely, I contacted Pam Swanson of Seagate in Scotts Valley, Ca. However, it states in the hard drive instalation manual that the 'warranty' is determined by the dealer (in this case, 1 yr.). Pam Swanson informed me that Computer Mart is not an authorized dealer of Seagate drives. Finally, after a year, I still had not yet received a working Seagate drive. – The controller was manufactured by C Ltd. – Dave
