#JVC 605 from hell. NO TC
5 messages in this thread
You say $ is tight, so I won't get on my "Get a Flyer" soapbox. So, regarding
the Equip. you do have, you did not mention wether the AmiLink/V-Lan control of
your source 605's was through a serial port or the direct V-Lan node that plugs
into the back of that deck. First off, the JVC BRS-605 is quirky and
non-standard in a lot of areas. If you are using serial control, you might
talk to AmiLink or your AmiLink dealer about the V-Lan node they make for that
deck. The node comes with a built in Time Code reader, I believe it's VITC but
I can't remember for sure. Be sure and disable the decks built in CTL-TC as it
will conflict with the VITC. With this node, AmiLink certifies the 605 to be
frame accurate as a source deck but not as a record deck. Good luck, Don

Good day Don,
Thanks so much for your reply and your info will come in handy. :-]

I've often wondered if there was a TC-reader available for the JVC's. I'll
be sure to look into it. Control track editing is tricky to be sure. Often I'll
do an matchframe edit with a glitch, because the decks just skip a beat.
Needless to say
this is such a waste of effort. Although $ are in short supply, maybe there's
still away to hook my decks together.
Don, what area of video production are you involved in ? I ask because
brightening my videos is my goal and the more people in this field (dtv) I
contact the better my creative juices will flow. We (DTV forum) can only
benefit from freedom to share info.. This forum is a great idea and goes a long
way toward a sharing of ideas.
Happy New Year !!

Hi Shawn,
The Videomedia V-LAN 605 interface boards can be optioned with a VITC reader or
LTC reader & generator. The 605 is a frame accurate source with either modes of
time code. The 605B can be used for insert editing, +/- a frame. The V-LAN
interface slides directly into the back of the VTR and be connected to any
computer using a V-LAN Transmitter. If you are interested in more information
or info on V-LAN compatible editing software, I would be glad to help.
FYI: Videomedia also provides boards for the new JVC 800 and 500, which are
frame accurate low cost SVHS decks without the limits of the 605.

Good day Michael,

Your reply is greatly appreciated and I'm sure the boards would cure my
problem, but money for such ventures is null and void here at Systems
Specialists. I deal with control track editing because of this. Work with what
you got are my words to live by. Until I land another job the simple setup I
use everyday my be my only chance to learn desktop video production. If money
does become available I'll be sure to look you up. Thanks again for your
suggestion I'll keep it in mind.
Thanks again,

Good day Don,
I appreciate your response and I'm sure your right.

The information you gave will come in handy when money is available for
such things, but my boss (who's been generous by giving me this job) is tight
fisted when it comes to any add-ons. So in the meantime this system will cause
me nothing but pain. I know one things for sure a simple Toaster has limited
capabilities without the bells and whistles.
Thanks again,
