Yeah, it *is* a nice magazine. I just wish they could get 'em out on a timely basis. I wonder what'll happen if Tranactor actually folds — will we all get subscriptions to _Amiga User_ or something? "Croftward Publishing, the Ziff-Davis of Great Britain." Feh. (Anybody remember MicroSystems?) Hoping for the best… –dds

I've heard unhappy rumors about AmigaUser itself. ……Betty

Dale, Personally, I think that Croftward is going to take our money (whatever is left) and run. I'm not very optimistic about the chances of seeing another issue in the next few decades. Consider the fact that the principle writers and the editor are no longer working for (with) the magazine! -RSL-

I doubt Croftward's going home with much. If they were, they'd still be getting Transactor out, on schedule. As business concerns go, my experiences with Croftward have been above average on the ethical scale.

I don't know much about Croftward, but I would think that if a company bought a magazine they would have the capacity to generate more than one or two magazines, even though the magazine's own revenues were low. I don't know who's fault it is that Transactor "went down the tubes", I just know that Croftward didn't seem to help the situation much! -RSL-

I wish I could say the same re: Croftward! They are not very ethical in their dealings with their writers. THat has been my experience with AmigaUser International – wrote six articles, was paid for two, and those payments after much effort on my part and that of some ENglish friends. And their track record with the Transactor has been pathetic. I'm glad they have done better by you, and hope they have done as well with all of the vendors, because (as I hear it) you have plenty of problems with distributors – don't need any with magazines.

Just let me say that I have really enjoyed your articles in AUI. I hope that's some consolation, even if you weren't completely paid for them.

Well, if that's the case, then their rep in Transami is destroying that reputation pretty thoroughly. -larry

Do you have figures to indicate that Croftward is pulling a lot of money out of Transami, rather than backing out to minimize losses? I don't know anything about the finances, but do know my personal experiences with Croftward, which would incline me to believe they would be above average to deal with in a sinking ship. When a ship is sinking, everybody has to get off.

Cheath, My comments were not directed toward any actions on the part of Croftward in regard to their financing or lack of it for Transami itself, but rather toward their rep in Toronto, who, from the time she started, instituted a policy (sanctioned by Croftward or not), of not paying authors until they bitched loud enough. Without authors, a magazine doesn't have a lot going for it, and it seemed like she was doing her best to make sure that Transami didn't have any left. As I say, if Croftward has a good reputation for fair dealing, their rep was destroying that, at least in the eyes of the authors. I have no evidence that Croftward was in any way attempting to sink Transami, nor did I mean to imply it, if that's the way anyone read my comments. I just don't know enough about the entire situation to be able to make that kind of judgement, and can only comment based upon the way I, and many of my friends were treated. -larry

Yeah, it's a bad sign when the editors jump ship. I know the three main editors (Chris Zamara, Nick Sullivan, and Tim Grantham) are no longer there; what about Malcolm O'Brien and Paul Bosaki? If Croftward does "take our money and run", isn't that called "fraud"? What about the way they've not payed their authors? Has anybody talked to the US Postal Service about this? Or the Canadian Postal authorities? I know that the US Post Office takes a very dim view of mail fraud. (I'm not a lawyer, I don't even know any lawyers, so don't take anything I say about the law as gospel.)

Do you have the money to sue an English company for failure to deliver a Canadian magazine to the United States? Could you imagine the legal contortions that would require? It ends up wasting more money (even with the expense of a stamp. No sense crying ofver spilt milk (money). Que sera, sera!
