#ES-300C & A4000/040
13 messages in this thread
Hello,
A while ago, I purchased an Epson ES-300C and the Bundled ASDG Epson
Software, and then later purchased ADPro as well… Then about a year ago I
bought an A4000/040 and lost full compatibility with the scanner software. I
understand that if I turn off all data caching I can still use the software but
this is very inconvenient and slows down the system greatly. Does the new
version of ADPro correct this? If so, thank your programmers for me… If not,
WHY? Also, when will it be implemented?
Thanks for your help.

To the best of my knowledge (again) we have not been able to dupliacte the
problem on our 040 machines here (we have some 4000/040's and a couple
3000/040's as well). As any programmer can tell you, it is extremely hard, if
not impossible to fix a bug or glitch if you cannot duplicate it.
We run systems ranging from KS 1.3 to 3.0 and everything in between. If we ever
duplicate the problem we will be sure to fix it if it is a problem with ADPro
or the Scanner software.

Chris,
Let me get this straight. Your A4000/040's have all the Caches turned
on, including CopyBack. Then you double-click on the ADPro Icon (v2.3 here) and
after ADPro comes up, click on "Loaders". The list comes up, scrolls to EPSON
SCAN (v3.0.2). Pick EPSON SCAN from the list. Click "Load"…
At this point my system halts and I get an error code of E-1 on my
scanner (ES-300C). Are you saying that you actually can scan at full speed at
this point (with all caches still turned on)? If so, I may actually consider
hand delivering my complete setup to the ASDG offices, in exchange for free
updates for life if I am not incorrect.
I don't mean to sound abrupt, but I have heard from other owners of
ADPro that have the same problem and have solved it in the same way (turning
off data caches including copyback before EPSON SCAN is executed)…
Thanks,

I know it sounds odd, but according to people here the problem has not
been able do be duplicated here. I will do I hook one of our Epson
scanners up to one of our 4000/040s or our 3000T/040 and confirm it
again.
I also have this same problem with my A4000/040, Buster 11, cpu 3.1. I
have to turn all caches off just to scan. I also have a problem when
using Gigamem and the scanner software on very large files (30megs or
larger). I don't have any of these problems when using ImageMasters
Scanner software though, I can leave my caches on too 🙂
BTW, how do you turn your caches off? What program do you run? I
can't seem to find one. SK.
If you have WB 2.04 or above, it come with the AmigaDos command CPU.
You may disable the data cache by typing:
1.>cpu nodatacache
it can be turned back on by typing:
1.>cpu datacache
Hope thtis helps.

Thanks
John,
Glad to hear from someone else online who has the same problem…
Although I would prefer if neither of us had it… :>
With ImageFX, are you using the Paralell Cable that came with ADPro or
something else? Also, what version are you using?
Thanks,

Make sure you use the ASDG supplied parallel cable and not a standard
printer cable. The ASDG cable is custom and the scanner software will
not work without it.
Chris, The scanner problem is REAL and has been reported many times by
myself and others. You really must come to realize that so many people can
not be wrong. If you issue the command:
CPU cache copyback
Before running ADPro I gaurantee the problem will occur for you also.
If it doesn't your not running on a 040 amiga. The cpu command you
gave to someone a few msgs ago (cpu datacache) turns on the data
cache in burst mode. That is not the normal way to run the cache on
an 040 Amiga. The 040 needs the copyback mode to really run properly.
I have no doubt that the problem is real BUT It has not been able to be
re-created on our 040 machines (3-4000/040, 3000T/040 & 3000/040). These
machines defintely have 040's in them and the 3000's were in 040 mode.
This has been a very frustrating problem as we cannot duplicate it and it
is nearly an impossible task to fix a problem without seeing it happen. I will
test this thing again ( and again and again) to see if the results changes.
I will keep everybody informed.
