Lets say I have $5000 to get into 3D Studio with. I have a P90 with 32 megs RAM, 3 Gigs HD, and a Stealth 64 VRAM PCI card. I will be creating SF-oriented animations (initially) for our magazine. I already have Vistapro and Visual Reality to create most simple objects and landscapes with. What should I spend the $5000 on? I assume the first $3500 would be on 3DS 🙂 For that matter, will $5000 be enough to start? Thanks, Ewan Grantham grantham@MR.Net or 74123,2232 Editor of RADIUS – A Magazine of Future Fiction and Fact Ewan Grantham & Associates "Innovation in Information"

Ewan, I suggest you call Autodesk also and see if you can find a dealer in your area that is familiar with using 3DS for Print output. My 2 Cents Worth. Murph'

You've got enough RAM for most uses. I'd buy a bunch of IPAS routines. Get LenzFX for sure for Sci Fi, look at the Yost brochure for some other nice special effects-types. Look at Schreiber and Digimation too. If you're going to need any deformation tools, get Bones Pro, it's next on my list!

>I assume the first $3500 would be on 3DS 🙂 I don't know where you're located, but around here ( South Florida) if you shop around, you can find 3DS for about $2100 – $2500 or so. You might want to consider a DPS Personal Animation Recorder (PAR) Card, unless you're strictly going to do stills. (About $2500 with drive) And don't forget to budget for IPAS ( 3D Studio is really a $10,000 program that they allow you buy $250 at a time after you get the basic package ) Hope this helps -David Camp

>> Don't forget to add a $30,000. Beta SP deck <BG>. Make that $60,000 . What good is it without Dynamic tracking (BVW-75) ….
