Paul, I was just cruising around and found your message. I'm certain that Jonas will provide you with a much better answer than mine, but here goes anyway: Are you generating single frames that will be dropped to tape or is this going to be a flic? I have read…
I also just got the book last week. Its Great! Covers just about everything a student would like to know. Look forward to the next publication!
You think like a pro, David. That technique belongs in a book about special effects with 3D Studio… it's EXTREMELY useful. Would you be interested in writing up a message explaining exactly what you did, along with a picture and the matte/depth channel? – G

You cannot "set" much variables in a secondary shell (what you get when you "shell out" of 3DS or any other program). Regardless the amount of environment space you have set in CONFIG.SYS, the secondary shell's environment will only be as big as the size of the "used portion" of…

If anyone has some tips or advice regarding all issues pertaining to creating/using DXF output from another 3D application -> to import into 3D Studio, I would greatly appreciate hearing it. Thanks, BILL
John, it totally depends on the stuff you do. When I was doing architecture 48mb-64mb was essential – but now I'm out of that area almost completely and haven't needed anything close since then. I've mainly been doing multimedia and games since then and 16mb has been fine OR using…
Hi Chuck I have been running 3ds on a Diamond Viper VLB 2MB for about a year with no problems. In fact, the drivers with release 3 work perfectly at all resolutions in all program modules. I have never had that before ! You will have to run VESA for…

Hi Robert, Someone mentioned here that you benchmarked a DX4/100 vs a Pentium/66 and the DX4 turned out to be faster. Could you please confirm or deny that you did such comparisons ans if so, is this accurate ? If by some chance this IS accurate, would you mind briefly…
#PAR JPEG artifacts prob.
Message #97698
David, I recently purchased one of your company's PAR units for the PC. The installation was easy, but I can't store TGA files on it, as ANI or STILL, without significant artifacts being introduced into the image. For example, I created white titles on a black ground in photoshop and…

I used this method on the whale anim and it works great. Two of my R4 wishlist items were 'gradient fog' and 'bitmap fog', but using this method gives me both perfectly with full control, and I don't even have to wait for R4! David
I did a little theater lighting (San Francisco Opera) in my time, but I've forgotten most of my theater terminology. Isn't a "theater" scrim a large screen dropped from a "pipe" near the cieling, with lights shone behinde it? God, I can't remember any of that stuff. I was referring…

Sounds like you've got a memory conflict. You mentioned your autoexec.bat is vanilla (no tsr's, etc…), but what about your config.sys? Try a config.sys with file=35, Buffer=35 only, and see if that clears it up. If it does you've got a conflict and will need to exclude rom mapped areas…

That should do it. If it doesn't, it's beyond what I know. The order doesn't make any difference. The only question is, why do you exclude those 4M at that region? Not that I think it would cause problems, it's just unusual.

How do I go about filing a bug report on Animator Pro's jagged text in version 1.3? I understand that if I do, I'll get a "fix" to 1.3a which will have re- designed post-script fonts. Both myself personally, and the company my day job is with have version 1.3.
