Hi Chris, The file format for 3D Studio did not change from R3 to R4, so the same information applies. R4 consisted of enhancements to IPAS and included plug-ins that stored thier settings (like the IK) in XDATA. -Grant Blaha [ADESK]

I'm sure many of us have been waiting for the spline patch modeler to ship. Since it is free to every 3DS owner why do we have to wait 2-4 LONG weeks to get it? Why isn't it here or on ftp.autodesk.com?

I agree. I liked the old ads better than the new one. The one for 3 was pretty cool, and caught my eye with the dragon and chapel. But so far, I think the one for Release 2 was best, with the exploding farmhouse, and the very cool descriptive narrative…

Can anyone tell me where I can get/buy an upgrade for 3DS 3 to 3DS 4
Forgot to ask, how different are the R3 and R4 versions of the file format.
Is there a version for release 4? Or is there some other way to import a 3 DS release 4 file?
I don't know if this will help, but there are some shareware programs that will let you use *.flc's as screensavers, maybe one of them will let you do what you want with some fidgiting.

Sorry Tom, but I think you misunderstood the offer. I think they mean if you purchase 3ds4 now, the upgrade to MAX will only cost yu $495 when it is released… Someone will please correct me if I am off base.
