Donald, do You know the "Multimedia Encyclopedia" by The Software Toolworks? I have bought it here in Germany for somewhat around 150 or 200 German Marks (sorry, I don't know that in Canadian $, but at least it is much cheaper than 390$, isn't it?). The cover says: "The definitive…

Jim, When you say "master Redbook audio from a DAT" do you really mean a "Master" or are you referring to a one-off (CD-R)? If the latter, then yes there are several packages which will make an audio CD-R and most of those work with DAT tape. If you really…

I need to find a CDROM Jukebox solution for our Netware v3.11 server. We currently use a bank of six CD-ROM drives connected to the server with MDI's SCSI Express. I'm looking for a read-only jukebox device that has 3+ drives and a changer capacity for 10+ CD's. Ideally, I'd…
Beep! That answer is incorrect, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Double speed drives are indeed faster than their single speed counterparts (at least SCSI ones are). You might have to be using a higher end adapter to see a big difference, but its definitely there. David
From: C Bret Jessee CDROM Vendor Forum · General Section July 15, 1993 5:46 AM
While shopping for a mail-order PC, Gateway told me that double-speed CD-ROM drives (NEC Multispin 84i, etc) are not presently any faster/better than standard units as current software/hardware cannot utilize higher speed transfer rates. Is this true? Were I to specify a NEC Multispin84i in a ZEOS 4DX2-66, is there…

I read a glowing review of Encarta in CD.ROM WORLD, and wonder if anyone could give me a futher assessment. Is it worth the $390.00 or so Canadian dollars I would have to pay for it? Basically I'm looking for a good all round reference work for my kids who…

We have an internal Sony non-SCSI CDROM (type 31A?) running under DOS, and had a hard disk crash on the machine it is installed in – the crash has graunched the Sony-supplied DOS driver for the CD, and it doesn't seem to be on the driver disks for the sound…

#922 #DRM-600 MSCDEX Message #941
From: David Hay CDROM Vendor Forum · General Section July 13, 1993 6:13 PM
I understand the config.sys part of it, but i have gotten the impression talking to various techs that there could also be a device-specific mscdex. maybe they were just trying to simplyfy the config.sys driver part. Is pioneer here in some capacity?
It doesn't make sense to run a sound card on a server! Since sound cards are designed for personal use, there would be no sound locally if it was on a server. There are no Novell drivers for the Soundblaster in any case.
NEC can supply you with the drivers for their SCSI cards for the PC… just check their BBS. For Mac driver updates, you need to contact NEC Tech Support at 1-800-NEC-INFO… but only if you already have a Mac driver of theirs. If you just purchased the NEC drive, you…
