Best Offline-Reader Soft
Message #419
Hi! I know that this message is a little bit off-topic, but I want to change my offline-reader… At the moment I use Navcis S.E 1.2 If you really like your reader, please send me a mail why you like it and where to get it. Regards, Nils
Running Animations
Message #416
I have the Compuserve CD, and I saw some video animations on there I would love to download. My question is how do I run the animation files. I assume I need video viewer software, just like the gif viewer software I have. The CSERVE CD installed the Microsoft Video…
TOPAS 5.1 for sale
Message #415
I have a copy of TOPAS 5.1 (well, it's 5.0 with the 5.1 upgrade disks), and all docs, for sale. $450.00 Note that this is TOPAS, not TOPAS Pro. It can output high res single images (TGA or others) or 8-bit .FLC animations for multimedia. If you're interested, send me…
>I think for the price of 3DS that there should be more included< Yeah, but when you consider ease of use, quick rendering times, etc, there is a lot you can do in 3DS without all of the IPAS stuff. I suppose it would be a good idea for me…
Hiya Lee! I think you took me wrong… I was defending you guys! What I meant to say about the 11 washouts / 1 success was that the one success made the effort worthwhile. Bri
#video computer hookup
Message #411
Is there anyway to move animations on your computer to a video in a VCR?
Hi Jim, You're right.. at the moment I have two array for each scanline containing the end- and the startpoint of a polygon.. It was fast to draw such polys in mode $13. I'm not sure.. If I calcualte the vertical lines I miss the quadrouble speed (enabling the 4…
Hi Jeff, good to see you here, too! 🙂 >> One of the advantages to 3-D Studio is its expandability. and it's disadvantage, since you have to pay extra (as IPAS routine) for each feature. I think for the price of 3DS there should be more included. -David
IMHO the Intel Smart Recoder is not smart at all and slow. Check out DC1tv from miro. It does real 30 fps at at least 320×240 (higher in PAL mode, dunno about NTSC mode, but the card can do both). And Premiere comes bundeled with it for only $200 extra.…
no doubt, the DXF format doesn't offer as much as Imagine format. Unless they don't say no I'll upload both here and in the UG. -David
And since both fora are managed by the same guys (the GGG) it's wouldn't be negative to "advertise" files that are here. -David
Simple RAW triangles are a common exchange format here, due to their portability and Steve Anger's RAW2POV convertor. It's just a list of vertices, 9 on a line, separated by spaces. A word on a line by itself is a group separator, used to divide subobjects and parts. There's a…
>>We need to get the fundamentals of 3D space manipulation and texture mapping and height fields down…Once we get all those things under our belts THEN we can really start making the final show.
>>It just seemed that there are a lot of us who want to swap ideas and try and put something togetherRob
>> I've helped a dozen young teens with graphics over the last two years. 11 >>were a washout but one, sheesh, he's doing what I couldn't have conceived of >>at 15. 😉 Brian, You had better believe that not all teenagers are morons (all though most are). But, I can…
Hi Matt, It's great that you created a modeling section. Last month I uploaded a 3D modeler ( MODIT.ZIP) in the CYBERFORUM (Lib4). This modeler has his own format but also a build in converter from and to PLG. I would like making it accessible to the people in this…
Remember…Lightwave is already available, albeit on the Amiga platform. My opinion is that it IS better than 3DS and will continue to be in the future. To be fair, I have heard from some that there are strengths in certain areas of both programs. But actually, it's the Amiga Version…
>>ScreamTracker III. It's great but it crashes if I have EMM386
>minor industry of add-on software< Are you talking about IPAS? If so, "minor" ain't the word! There are quite a few new companies popping up who are writing IPAS routines. And IPAS gets better all of the time. Turns 3d$ into 3d$$$$$$$$, though. Jeff
Dan, I'm running a search right now (Ah, Windows) on our file-submissions database to see when TOON11 made it to our shores. It was uploaded in June to GRAPHSUP 3 (Graphic Viewers) by Michael J. Henderson [74514,47]. It may, of course, have moved since then, especially given that it didn't…
Hi Fred again (I think we should start a new thread…. Demo-Music or Music-Stuff or something like this). >> So, you're doing the music part of this, huh? What does your software support? Just GUS? Soundblasters? > I'm a musician too, but so far I've been doing VGA-FX and leaving…
Hi Fred, >> "Greetings to the LAME turkey who just ripped my code and stuck his name on it. Hope you feel like a REAL programmer now."
Mark I know what you mean! Thanks, Jim
Jeff Thanks for the info. Jim
>the advantages to 3-D Studio is its expandability.< There's a minor industry of add-on software around 3DS, as well. But…. they are very _proud_ of 3D$. ..mark
>I read somewhere, a programmer on the development team went off on his own to add protected mode to Windows. It wasn't even an officially sanctioned project. I once had the chance to work with an older techie that had been at Bell Labs during the 60's, and when they…
>a LOT of people were slapping their foreheads and saying "WHY? WHY? WHY didn't you blow off the 286 and just support the 386? You guys are nuts!" Then again, when they chose the XT platform to build from, I had the same reaction. Since then, nothings been a surprise,…
>Hmm … this "real-time calculation" thing gets kinda hazy when you >examine it too close, doesn't it? Yea, I was thinking your 'real-time' calc definition was close, but not 'on the mark' for demos. To me, demo's are demo's of innovation. At one time, it was simply doing anything that…
> I agree. Those are "lamers". You get to exact your revenge by lambasting >them in your next demo. "Greetings to the LAME turkey who just ripped my code >and stuck his name on it. Hope you feel like a REAL programmer now." Heh! > But they're just kids. Nobody…
Fred, The funny thing is, I read somewhere, a programmer on the development team went off on his own to add protected mode to Windows. It wasn't even an officially sanctioned project. It might have been years before we even got 286 pmode in Windows if he'd waited to get…
Thanks Jim.
Ray Dream Designer is a 3D modeling and rendering package whose claim to fame is that it is VERY easy to use, yet full featured. It does do ray tracing, and is usually priced at under $300. It does NOT do animation, and is really positioned more for users who…
Fred, Like you, I WILL upload my code "when it's good enough", but say I get a stack overflow error, or my BSP tree isn't efficent, and I need a hand, I would rather post a note to that says: "Help me PLEASE!!" and mail it to the next "volunteer",…
So, you're doing the music part of this, huh? What does your software support? Just GUS? Soundblasters? I'm a musician too, but so far I've been doing VGA-FX and leaving the sound card programs 'til later. Maybe I'll just use one of the public players for awhile. Nah. Other people's…
I've got no problem with that, in fact, it would be sorta neat to try to do a "parallel" demo that uses Pascal/ASM instead of the Team's C/ASM. What a challenge! But I really would rather do things in full public view. I already told Lily I'd upload a micro-demo…
Lily, Okay, I just might do that. My "water molecules" demo is not really ready for uploading yet, since it's not QUITE a "demo" yet. Although the graphics are drawn in real-time, the atomic movements are programmed into a movement file and this series of motions is played back. I…
I agree. Those are "lamers". You get to exact your revenge by lambasting them in your next demo. "Greetings to the LAME turkey who just ripped my code and stuck his name on it. Hope you feel like a REAL programmer now." But they're just kids. Nobody in the know…
Alex, I'll try, as best I can, but you should really ask one of the sysops. I'm not on the demo team yet, I just hang out here. The demo team is a Compuserve demo-writing team. They are working on the code, artwork, and music required to put together a…
well, I can't find anymore info about the TOON11.ZIP file. It was a program that allowed you to do cartoons on the PC. I have a project that we're looking into to. We need to place some pictures of cartoons (probably GIFs) in a program suitable for children (ages 3-8)…
David, You're right of course. It was the half-a**ed 286 arcitecture that spawned 24-bit DPMI, and those geniuses at Microsoft who decided that they wanted to support this lame addressing method instead of the 386's flat mode. At the time they came out with Windows 3.0, a LOT of people…
>The time's bound to come when video systems will be fast enough to play back >32 bit animations over other animations or stills, with appropriate >transparency. >Look to the future. I'll be writing a proposal for a kiosk that does this, soon, for a 95 production date. The plan is…
Yes, that would be its main use, though you could play it back too in 24-bit. –dkm
Hehe…sounds like a Migraine producer…I wrote a small C++ program and it ran….it's a long tedious process. I love DOOM Bruce
450 megs, and yes, TGAMIX worked great. The guy brought his Dell here, and we parallel port laplinked two images across, maybe a month ago. Haven't heard if he was able to print them.
The time's bound to come when video systems will be fast enough to play back 32 bit animations over other animations or stills, with appropriate transparency. Look to the future.
George, I will get TEAR.GIF re-uploaded as soon as I can which at the rate I am going, it may take a month Have patience little one! Jenee
Philip, talk to Blue Sky Productions in NY. They made the talking coffee bean commercial. -David
>> It's my hopes that we can bring on added HoF members to handle >> animations, yes here I am! 🙂 I've talked to Jim already about getting into the HOF team, but at that time he didn't need anyone. Remember me to him if you "see" him -David
If I understand Dave right he ment it for compositing anims. Or was that composting? BTW what happened to your 270mb monter image? Did you get your name in? -David
