MIllenium Battery
Message #5494
John, The mellenium batteries are lead acid and should not have the memory effect. They were purchased new. Directions say to charge the (first time only) for 16 to 24 hrs, which I did. The one battery wouldn,t even turn the camera on, and the second lasted about a minute.…

Porta Lite II with 75 Watt Wonder bulb ( 2000 hours), $150 or best offer thanks
Jeff, Thanks for the reply! Kevin
One of my favorite stories about this is of a member of our local Hi-8 Users Group. He had a program idea that he thought he could sell to a commercial TV station for an after prime time time slot. His pilot was all shot and edited in Hi-8, so…
The problem is not with using S-VHS, but with the S-VHS player that you are using. The Sony SLVR-1000 is really just a consumer deck (which is how it is sold in Japan). The s/n is terrible. If you dumped your Hi8 tape directly from the NLE to a high…
Kevin, IMHO S-VHS done well is entirely broadcastable. However most broadcasters do require 3/4-1"-Beta now-a-days. You could pick up your machine and take it to a post house that has beta, or rent a beta deck for a day. Or get a good hi-speed modem… :-; -John
Paul, Look in lib 8 (Windows/NT Tools). There are a number of .avi etc., players there. -John
#SVHS for local ads?
Message #5366
I have started to produce some commercials for local businesses, and have a question. Is S-VHS an acceptable format for this? I shoot my footage on a Sony VX-3 camcorder, and then dump the footage to an NLE. After editing, the finished product is sent to an SLVR-1000 VCR. The…

Picked up a couple of these battereis over the weekend to use with my Panasonic camcorder. Had both in charger for 24 hrs as per instructions. First unit wouldn't even turn the camera on, and the second recorded about 2 minutes and died. I returned them and tried a second…

Bob: You could start by getting a copy of the latest "Digital Video" magazine. They do a good job of reviewing the equipment and software. I've seen it on the newstands. If you can't find it there the subscription number is 800-998-0806 or Internet:subs@dv.com. They're objective regarding platform and the…
Panasonic AG 6100 VTR???
Message #5245
I can trade a guy some memory for a Panasonic AG 6100 VTR. Does anyone out there know if this has the ability to hook up to a video controller via RS432 or other common interface and if it has any value as a VTR for PC video output. Any…
Although Amiga corporate support won't be back up until Commodore's purchase by Escom starts rolling, most Amiga/NewTek dealers give excellent support and their more responsive and usually closer to home. Videology also does support for all its CIS customers, via CIS, phone or fax, and has a very satisfied client…

Hi- I am new to this area. I am trying to get information for my brother. He wants to start a non-linear editing (to tape) production company out of his home. He has been struggling in underground film for a few years and knows that end. I am a computer…
Jim: >Thanks for your note. Any information is better than what I currently have. I agree AVID is very expensive but they seem to be the leaders in this area. I would love to have their high end system but I cannot afford the price. Thanks again. My ultimate goal…
John, Thanks for the information. I imagine I'll be taking you up on the more "questions as they come up" offer. I presently live in Germany and have problems window shopping. This makes me a mail order kind of guy. To combat my isolation, I must spend a lot of…
James, Thankfully there are lots of choices today for broadcast quality Desktop Video Production. If you can find them in your area I would definately have a look at the NewTek Video Toaster, Fast Video Machine, Pinnacle Alladin, DPS PAR/Perception with Adobe Premiere or Razor. Fast and NewTek can be…

Please help me. I am interested in buying the right equipment to produce: high quality, educational, training and development presentations on computer. Motion video, graphics, photographs, audio, special effects, etc. I have seen some material from the AVID company about their systems but I would like to know more about…
Hi Henry, You're everywhere!! I will tell Russ about the InSync as he is looking into this issue. Thanks. Michael
Hi Mike – We have a used InSync board at Videology. It is a plugin which replaces the PC's video card, and outputs NTSC directly from the PC's bus. It was being used for video conferencing for Windows applications, so it's resolution output must be decent. If you would like…
PMJI, but I am extremely interested in this issue. Could you or anyone advise me if there is a way (for under $1,500) to translate PC graphics (e.g.,Corel Draw), moving, fancy text, animation and presentatations using programs like ASTOUND to video tape which, when copied, will provide at least industrial…
Jan, I was interested to see you were having such good luck with the > AI Tech Pro PC/TV Plus I am using Astound and producing self-running presentations, then videotaping these via the VGA->NTSC converter and a Sony Hi-8 deck. This produces beautiful originals, but when copied for distribution, they…
FOUR FRAMES?! I suppose after you've made your first pass, you'd have to back up 3 frames and start the next pass from that point to end up with a single frame. Wouldn't that make single frame recording a lot of fun!(g) CK
I think I've seen it said that Vdeck must lay down a minimum of 4 frames per recording pass. -jts
I think the Hi-8 unit John was talking about is the Sony EVO-9650. This unit is loaded. 8mm time code generator/reader (not RC time code), variable speed noiseless slo-mo, PCM audio, digital frame buffer for storing the image while it's been recorded, and a wire remote with a jog/shuttle dial.…
Ah, for slides a dedicated device made by Tamron, the Fotovix IIIs, is recommended for best results. How are you converting your slides to video? I believe it's about $350 from B&H Photo. I haven't used it but I'm thinking very seriously about it. -jts
John, Thanks for your thoughts, they are helping . I'm wanting increased quality for slides of contempoary art quilts, where quality is a prime consideration. For teaching, I have some stuff in presentation programs, but most I do "live". I won't go above 640 x 480 because they need the…
Thanks for the info Firdaus
Nada from what I've seen discussed. Single frame costs about $3500 on up. Sanyo's SVHS decks are often mentioned as a lot for the dollar. In Hi8 I'm not sure the deck model number but I recall it's over $5k. -jts
#Sony EVS7000 question
Message #4820
Is the HI 8mm Sony EVS7000 capable of single frame recording. Firdaus
Jan, my genlock is 640×480 so I don't have first hand experience to know the answer to your question. NTSC is 525 lines of vertical resolution at 30 frames/sec … but only half that is contained in each field at 60 fields/sec. This interlacing reduces flicker w/o increasing the frame…

We have a question about creating an EDL for our video house. We have a Mac with Premiere, and a Sony 3ccd. We want to be able to read the time-code, but apparently we need a device called a Vbox which uses the LANC controller. We're not even sure if…
John, My message was misleading, I apologize. I am having the dupes made professionally. My problem is that I want higher resolution between the computer and the Hi-8. My current converter does it at 640 x 480, and I see one advertised at 800 x 600. However, if NTSC is…
Kevin: >Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.< You're welcome! BTW, did you find out if the Snappy worked w/a Mac? Best, Tim
Tim, Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. Kevin Barrett
You might try using the S-Video input on a SVHS deck for making VHS copies for distribution. I haven't tried this yet but I'll bet it makes an improvement. Maybe you have an SVHS deck or could borrow one for a test. For the cards you mentioned I really don't…
