A4000 Flyer Chassis
Message #5427
Great new chassis for A4000's It's called the HighFlyer and increases the standard A4000 chassis to a total of 8.9", so you may want to move the monitor. However, it comes with a new expansion card vertical bracket which you swap with the current 4000 bracket. Now you have slots,…
hi, at this time, the actual MovieShop is V2.1. Just bought the VLabMotion 5 days ago. Have fun. Ueli
That's good news for Toaster lovers! -John
Hi Stu – The German computer chain Escom, with some 200 retail stores in Germany, has taken title to the Amiga technology and inventory and plans to begin manufacturing Amiga's under contract to a Chinese corporation. Prior to their purchase of Commodore, Escom had also purchased the largest computer retail…

I understand Commodore was bought by a large German firm and that they will resume production on 4000s. Said to introduce one with a 68060 processor. Company owns hundreds of computer stores in Europe. Haven't heard about USA distribution.
Whether there is a viable future for a revived Amiga remains an open question. And I am as big an Amiga fan as anyone. As one Video Toaster dealer told me though, you can't take a year off from the computer business. Amiga animators seem very interested in Alpha machines.…
That sounds very good. Does this mean there may be some future for the Amiga or perhaps an Amiga clone. I'm considering purchasing VLAB motion for the Amiga, and I would like to think that I'm investing into something with a future.
Sure thing Bryan. The DraCo was at NAB (in Jim Plant's VTU World) and it does work. They had Workbench, Adpro, Image FX and PageStream running and it was more stable (and much faster) than my A4000. It is 68060 based, although they hadn't totally finished the caches or FPU…
#DraCo & VLAB at NAB

Did anyone have the opportunity to see Macrosystems new DraCo video and graphics workstation at NAB? I read that they were going to present their system using VLAB Motion.
David, This sounds pretty cool, keep us informed on price and availability. ….John

COMPLETION ANNOUNCEMENT Sterling Video Auckland NewZealand now have installed the first and only MediaFlex Broadcast Studio Pal NonLinear system in the world. The system includes three A4000s Networked together using Quicknet Cards and Envoy. Two of the A4000s are used as Dedicated Video recorder/Players to maintain a high buss speed,…
Bryan, I'm not sure what you are talking about — are you using a MovieShop version earlier than 2.1? I've been using MovieShop version 2.1 since January and it is pretty darn solid. The documentation is almost useless so having a fairly intuitive interface (IMHO) has helped a lot. I've…

Does anyone know if MovieShop has come out with a newer & better version yet ? Is there any other non-linear editing software package that you can use with VLAB ? To me the this seems to be the only drawback to the VLAB Motion system.
I've always thought DCTV was one of the finest h/w devices developed for the Amiga, and DC missed its calling. I remmember hearing alot of Vapor about s/w u/gs but they never appeared :^( Good luck with Trinity. ….John

John, That fast 2Gb drive is going to make a big difference. Don't bother with MovieShop 1.2 — go ahead and use 2.1! To change buffers: 1. Do not open or create a new project when you start MovieShop — this is important since you can't change these values once…
#VLAB-M
Message #3570
Ed, OK, I got my VLAB-M yesterday and installed it last :^) I'm using a 25meg partition on a slow 50meg Quantum HD so far :^( Should be getting a 2GB 9ns drive today :^) I'm running MovieShop 2.1 and the lack of docs is Very frustrating. I may try…
Bob, Kickstart comes in ROM. The rest comes on 6 disks. EdV
Postscript: Check out Flyer Tips in The NewTek section of Amiga Vendors form over the last 6 weeks — there are lots of good, useful ideas here. Russ
Greg, Don't be so negative. Version 4 should be out by the end of the month and will correct many problems (they have to get it out before NAB on April 9). Versions 3.9 and 3.94 were after all Beta versions and were expected to be buggy. Say, why aren't…
Antialiasing in LW does not affect background image sequences. If you are trying to antialias a sequence, you could batch process through ADPro or ImageFX or ImageMaster, or you could possibly use ToasterPaint (blur) and AREXX. Hope this helps. Steve S.G. Bailey Image Dynamics, Inc.
Ed, How many disks is it on? both the Workbench and Kickstart. Bob
Bob, OS 3.1 is the latest. Specific version numbers vary slightly between machines, but for an A3000: Workbench is 40.42 and Kickstart is 40.68. EdV
I appreciate that. We've done this before. However we couldn't decide if antialiasing made a difference on the images. It got to be time consuming. Do you know if it does??? I'm going to try an arexx script that allows you to assemble RGB's into a clip file. Hopefully that…
Greg, You can assemble the rotoscoped clips as a background image sequence in LW. Stan Shumlick 2 Tall Video
Bryan, I haven't seen any substantive reports comparing the VLAB-M. I don't have any video test equipment and therefore can't report on it's output signal quality. All my "tests" have been done visually on the NTSC monitor. Anything I've done with the VLAB-M set above a 75% JPEG factor has…

#VT Flyer in Indiana?

I have been using a video Flyer for the past month. Although I already have a serious case of Flyer addiction, I must tell you that you should not seriously research the flyer until its final software release comes out. The versions currently out now are called .9 Newtek estimates…
Ed. Thanks for the reply. The magnum is a SCSI 2 device therefore I guess it will perform well. Has anyone seen any report comparing the VLAB motion to others such as Video Machine, Targa 2000, and Radius Videovision? I would like to know if it's on equal terms with…
John, Don't you just wish the A3000 had those AGA custom chips! It would be the ideal machine … oops, sorry I was gone but now I'm back ! I don't know if MovieShop will open on a FireCracker24 screen, but I can assure you that MovieShop works extremely well…
Bryan, I don't have any experience with the A2000/Magnum combination so I can't really tell you which would be better. The A3000 SCSI works extremely well with my VLAB-M but I know one user that is getting incredible perfomance with his WarpEngine SCSI-2 setup. If the Magnum SCSI is a…
Zeddock, Rendering time is a function of how sophisticated you want to get with your effects and how long of a period of time you want them to occur over. The most complex effect I've done so far involved scaling one video clip down to about quarter size, putting a…
Ed, I traded my Beefed A1200 sys for a Loaded A3000, came with Firecracker24 display and Ethernet. Hopefully the FC24 display will come in handy with MovieShop. Decided to keep the video end of things where they are the most mature for now. I need to go to Tape and…
I have a 2000HD and my understandings is that I should be using a Magnum SCSI / Accelerator board (040) to run VLAB. It's not cheap. I have an opportunity to purchase an Amiga 3000 for less than this SCSI board. Does the SCSI native on the 3000 work well…
John, My A3000 is strangely similar to yours! I've got the PPS 25/040 also. Other aspects of my system: OS3.1, 18Mb RAM, 1Gb FFS HD with a 1Gb dedicated video HD, and a IV24 to top it off. I am using the A3000's SCSI — that controller is one impressive…
I saew this at EXPO '94 in florida. It looked interesting but I am concerned about those render times. Is it a serious delay? Any comments, please. Zeddock
Good to hear from you Ed, Glad to hear your happy with your VLAB-M sys. I should be online early next week with an A3000 PPS 25/040, native SCSI, and 2gig 9ns HD. Probably feeding the VLAB-M with my Toaster system. Whats your A3000 sys configuration? Are you using native…
Bryan, The VLAB-M is an incredible system. I've been playing with mine for a couple months now and it continually amazes me with the capability and performance it really offers. I have it installed in an A3000/040 and I'm feeding it a Micropolis 1Gb drive for video and a SyQuest…
Bryan, Why ya YELLING??? I'm about to configure an A3000 VLAB_M system, very soon I'll be on line :^) Just got a used A3000/040 sys and I'll be loading a VLAB-M and 2gig HD ASAP. It will mostly be a digital deck for my A2000 Toaster/LW sys. Its not a…

Tom, HouseBoat Studios is my project audio/video studio on my floating home on Long Island N.Y. I use an Amiga 2000 with a Toaster, Studio-16 and output video to Panasonic 1960s and audio to Panasonic 3700 DAT. The HouseBoat is a great place to work, very relaxing and laid back.…
Answer: We all do. I just found that the ToasterPaint Process Script "PT" will work to break iindividual frames out of a clip. There may be a bug on line 23 of the script where there are unmatched parenthesis, but that may have been something I did when I was…

#Flyer boot up
Message #1971
John, Thanks for your help on the phone about getting my 4000/Flyer system to boot up. It turned out that since I had installed the Flyer software but had taken the actual board out temporarily, the startup sequence would just hang when it tried to mount the Flyer drives. Thanks,…
Does ADPro have an option for generating X-Specs 3D images? If so, use that, as it is the same technique as field rendering. I use Imagemaster R/t and it has that option. Works great! -=Vance=- Internet: viking@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca
Daniel, I've also been thinking about how to achieve Field Mode effects via ADPro for the PAR, particularly since getting a copy of MultiFrame, which is great at setting up the moves and fades, but needs Field Mode for smoother movement. I've been corresponding with Sam Morrocco at Prime Software…
