Hilary, Unless I'm mistaken, GIF is limited to 256 colors. By going from 24 bit accuracy to 8 bit accuracy you could lose a lot (depending on your source, of course). JPEG is is a lossy compression format, but you can control the amount of loss (or none at all).…
