#Importing DXF into LW
Message #13723
I may be missing something, but I own Lightwave 4.0 for the PC and for the life of me I can't find the load dxf options…either in Modeller or in Layout! What am I missing? -Bryan
Can you put me on an E-mail list to let me know when it is finished? Alan Ridgeway
Stephen, Thanks for bringing up Humanoid here. >>Humanoid has been in release in LW format for a long time now (2-3 years?).>They are, however, working on a (plug-in?) that will increase the functionality of their already impressive models. If I were to guess (since that's all I can do right…

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it and is the program actually on the three disks? What's on the CD, textures and models? -victor
Win NT Server for sale
Message #12763
I have a complete, upgradeable, unregistered copy of Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1 for x86 based computers. I'm asking $150.00 C.O.D. shipping included. Mark Yankee 73052,3142
I got the same with my LW package!!
Don't you think they could provide a small suite of them like the Arexx scripts Arnie did…Hmmm "center" comes to mind, or how about "Text". I would find modeling on a PC without them much less appealing than on the Amiga. I believe none exist on the PreRelease and no…
#LightWave Pkg Content
Message #12747
Hello, I just purchased and received my LW4.0 PC version from private sale. However, the package was not sealed and the box has been opened already. I have no reason to believe my private source would remove anything, nor did the content looked incomplete. But I just would like check…
Mike, PMFJI, Check out the Los Angeles Video Toaster Users Group. We meet once a month in North Hollywood at the North Weddington Center about two blocks from Universal/MCA. The meeting is from 12 noon to 5:30 the second Saturday of every month. We regularly feature LightWave as part of…
Thanks, Joe. Actually, I was up very late helping another gentleman get his Flyer working. Then got up early to finish the disk for the group. With a triple expresso to prop the ole eye lids open. No problem. I don't think that any question is a dumb question. I…
Thanks for the advice. I have thought about volunteering a lot, and I agree the experience gained will probably outweight the effort put in. The only obstacle for me is time. With a full time job and spending all my spare time learning about animation packages, there is not much…
Humanoid has been in release in LW format for a long time now (2-3 years?). They are, however, working on a (plug-in?) that will increase the functionality of their already impressive models. If I were to guess (since that's all I can do right now), I'd imagine that the potential…
>If Newtek could just line up a few good programmers to stuff Lightwave with a >few more plugins, they could really take the lion's share of the market. I thought the idea of plug-ins was to let third parties to develop amd make the product richer. 😉 There is a…
Say, Mike, if I can jump in, I'd highly encourage you to take advantage of any and all local user groups that are available to you… the benefits in meeting people face-to-face alone dwarf any contributions to keeping such meetings going. The people you meet there you may know for…
Importing DXF into LW

>>>Does someone knows where I could find a converter for DXF files into LWO (Lightwave object format)
Just Amigas and Macs so far. Although a P5 is very tempting, I just can't buy one yet after working with the Amiga for so long. Prehaps when Mac gets Quickdraw 3D I'll enjoy real time polys and no wireframes. Joe Clasen Joe's DB&G
I did. Thanks for the tips. All we really want is texture painting on 3D surfaces and shaded previews in real time. Looks like by the end of summer the wait is over. A friend of mine was testing all the platforms for Lightwave and concluded a Pentium 100 with…
I appoligize for my comment toward 3D Art Forum if it sounded like I was complaining about the cost. (well, just a little) I can imagine the level of effort and expense it must of took to pull off a meeting of that magnitude. Unfortunetly, I could not make it…

Thanks for the response. I also live in S. Calif., in Diamond Bar as matter of fact. Do you know of any good LightWave user group in this area. I've been to the 3D Art Forum meeting several times. But they don't meed very often, and they charge $15 for…
>>Get a MUCH larger hard disk. A full install of the Lightwave & demo files is 60 megs. Also, I have 32 megs ram, and a couple of the demo scenes had me going in to the swap by 20 megs. Great software though!

Where do you live? I'm in S. Calif. I could recomend out here. Also for good Lightwave discussion, you can also go Amigaven (New Tek). You will lots of long time users and New Tek support.

#LightWave Purchase
Message #12460
Hello to all LightWave users. I am new to LightWave but am anxious to purchase the 4.0 version for PC. I came from the 3DS world. I like what 3DS can do but the cost of keeping up with all the plug-in modules are just getting ridicules. I hope all…

Hi. That's why we were late. (we had tardy slips) Did you see how the Alias people had a development station directly hooked up to a Sega Saturn? 3D is the gamers future. I wished our machines could render 250,000 shaded polys a sec.!
Hell, you gave a great demo. Just your usual shy self. I am that much closer to getting a Flyer now thanks to you. Prepare for some more really dumb questions soon.
Lightwave VS 3D Studio
Message #12376
Yeah I have also thought of that scenario as well. Thanks! Will
IK in LW 4.0 is at a very basic stage, from what I've read/heard/seen. Haven't seen 3DS. Just wanted to let you know that LW IK might not be all you're expecting it to be. Of course, LW 5.0 should have things locked down a bit better. Just my .02…
Thanks, did not know that….
What I'm really wating for is IK for Lightwave, this is an advantage that 3DS has over Lightwave. They're working on a plug-in for that. That will be included in version 4.0 Available now
I think lightwave 4.0 has IK built in already? My delema is should I sell my 3DS and get lightwave?] Will
Dorothy, The only real prob. with Alpha's are that, looking for programs to run are a pain. Progs. are scarce at best, and usualy cost more (eg. MS Visual C++, Visual Reality 1.5, etc..) I owned one for months and the closest image editing app I got is a beta…
Will, As you might already know, Lightwave's got the ability to ray trace. You could shape an object like a magnifying glass and assign glass properties to it, and *presto* you got a fully working lens which enlarges anything behind it. So, in effect, you could built telescopes, lenses, glasses,…
Tim, I was beat. So you didn't miss much. I was up late the night before helping a client with his Flyer. We finally got it working after 2 AM. Uggggghh! Glad to hear E3 was cool, I tried to make it, but I have a couple of pretty tight…
I bought an ALPHA station from NEKO tech but still don't have the 3d software to test it out. Windows NT runs pretty well though. Will
Stan, Sorry I missed your demo. Saturday afternoon was my only opportunity to go to E3. Pretty overwhelming! But lots of game devs that may need models in the future. -Tim
