Decompressing Files
Message #166175
I currently am using, or at leat attempting to use a lharc decompression shareware by Stefan Boberg that I got from DEVware. In entering the command I seem to be having a problem getting it done though. It seems like I enter it right but the result is that the…
Hmmm… I don't have any idea where you are getting that message. I need a bit more information to help you figure this out. First, which terminal program are you using? Did the upload appear to work, but after it had finished you got that message? Or did the upload…
>Basically, most archivers work by typing something like: Worked like a charm…now I am trying to upload, but I am getting the message ' can't open description file' or something like that!!! Nancy
Converting Files

I beleive is in the graphics support forum. Also check out Graphics WorkShop it is nice and easier to used although it doesn't support 1/10 of the files formats that Image Alchemy supports and it does not support all Amiga IFF variations. Eduard VIS
I really can not say it is necessary but have had no problems with choseing my own colors. What did Adam do to God to have made Him put Eve in the Garden?
The best way is to have something like Directory Opus which pretty much automates building and extracting from archives. Otherwise, you have to do what Steve says. -Karl
Basically, most archivers work by typing something like: lha a dwarves.lha sneezy.exe dopey.info bashful.txt That command tells the program "lha" to "a"dd files the archive "dwarves.lha". The files that will be added are "sneezy.exe", "dopey.info" and "bashful.txt". The archiving programs are in library 14.

How do I archive a file for uploading? Nancy
David, you might try moving your CPU command back into the s-s. Mine is just after the assign for Fonts: I've found it works best to get it active somewhere around there. When I've put it elsewhere, such as in u-s, I get flaky effects, especially if after a program…
Do you know in what library you can find HSI's Image Alchemy Shareware I would like to try it. Thanks. Ken
Let me know what happens. Eduard VIS
Thanks for the information I will give it a try. Ken
This has been done by many people including myself. First of all I am assuming you do not have an Amiga program to convert files, if you had: ASDG's Art Department Prof Black Belts's Image Master GVP Image F/X among others you could convert them in the Amiga. I am…

Is there a way to convert files from my toaster, (the ones that I copy a frame of video onto a floppy in Toaster Paint) to any form of IBM files, is it at all possible or is it a totally unrealistic thing to do. I would appreciate any help.…

Steven, Yes I was refering to the startup screen and music. I too had the hell scared out of me the first time I saw it. I've seen it 4 times in a month (booting probably twice a day). David Kay Flying in from Montreal.

Antivirus Soft Advice
Message #165772
Can anyone give me advice on Antivirus software? There are three softwares of varying size in library nine and in addition I've heard that there is a Fred Fish antivirus software. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bruce
David, If you are referring to the random appearance of a startup screen and music, indeed it's supposed to be there. I confirmed it with Martin. He says it's the MagicWB secret! Scared the hell out of me the first time it happened!!

Brian, I think you are right. Other people are reporting a random appearance. So I guess the screen is supposed to be random. I'll see if I can contact the author through Internet. David Kay Flying in from Montreal.

Wow! Tanx! I just looked at the files. Looks like fun. Steve, once again, I gotta tell ya, THIS IS ONE FINE PROGRAM you done writ. Having the complete list of available files downloaded in those 4 files is brilliant and sure makes this a pleasure to use. I'm still…
Look in the Icons/Backgrounds library and do a BRO KEY:MAGIC*
Steve, Where can I find out more about MagicWB? Sounds intersting? C. Davey
Brian, You stated that MWB required 1 line to be added to s:startup-sequence. MWB does not require such a thing — NickPrefs does. NickPrefs is not part of MWB.
Steve, if you wish to have the patterns as part of your Workbench, under 2.x, you WILL have to add a line to your startup-sequence. It is only under OS 3.x and the first release of MWB that you will not need to add a line to the startup-sequence. I…
Pete, the price for a Boeder longwave receiver unit, cable to joystick port and floppy with software was 128 DM. OSAmatic System GmbH Schillerstrase 68 D-02763 ZITTAU telephone or fax: +49/3583/704792 (only 1 number). I am still satisfied. Eberhard Spittler // (using AutoPilot V1.74) \X/
There is no relationship whatsoever between MUI and MagicWB. As for as the MagicWB icons are concerned, it depends on what version of the OS you're using as 2.x and 3.x treat the workbench palette differently. There are various utilities in the Icons library that you might take a look…
I have had this happen exactly once on each of my machines. Interestingly enough, it was on the same day. MWB was installed on each machine on 2 different days. I wonder what algorithm he is using to decide when and/or how often to pop up his surprise? It hasn't…
Steve: If you don't have Magic Workbench, but do have MUI and a number of icons that are MagicWB "compliant", and you simply set the workbench for 8 colors, the colors in the MWB-style icons seem a bit garish. Is there a file somewhere that suggests setting for the extra…
Look in our Archivers library for UNZIP.LHA. Once you've unpacked it the syntax could not be simpler: UNZIP PATH:FILENAME —Betty

#decrunch .zip

Hello, I'm relativly new to comms, but I'm familiar with computers in general, with Amigas in special. The problem I have is in the Internet Forum. I found there interesting texts to download, but unfortunatly they are zipped (.zip). I know .lha, .zoo, .arc,… and use GuiArc to decrunch them.…
Brian, MagicWB v1.x did not "require" any addition to the startup-sequence. NickPrefs isn't part of MagicWB nor was it written by the same person. It was distributed with MagicWB as a convenience to non-3.x users. -sja

Thanks very much MWB info. I, obviously, missed this in the docs. Thanks.

Message #165319
Watch out for a possible "Gotcha!" with the Magic-Daemon program. It seems at random times during reboots, you'll get this screen with the SASG logo saying "Workbench Enhanced by MagicWB" with a THX-like audio clip through your system. I had it happen twice on the same day on two machines…

Robert Blayzor runs a BBS so you can try calling that or send internet e-mail to sasg@lsd.org and ask what's up. Living in the US, I didn't have to pay the $12 extra. It took a while but I did get both MagicWB and MUI. Daniel J. McCoy // CIS…

Here's the burst from the maunal regarding MagicWB-Demon NOTE: The entry to activate the MagicWB-Demon must be both in the user-startup and startup-sequence. This will ensure that the colors are always allocated in the right way even if some bootpic programs open a screen before the WB opens. So, do…
Dave, >is that MWB Demon absolutely neccesary I prefer the old MagicWB colors so I commented it out of the s-s and u-s files and everything is fine. -Marty
