A3k Rom Tower
Message #192335
Oh boy! I got my A3000 rev. 7.3 MB to run but it shows the ROMs? prompt. Can anyone tell me how to get it to recognize the ROMs which are on the ROM tower? The ROMs and the WB on the HD are 2.04. I've booted my A2000 from…

Jim: While we're off the subject… Here's another old joke: Remember the chemical formula for banana? Ba(Na)2! Not to mention the Lone ranger's formula: HIOAg! Tom

Bob: I'l put up my 486DX-2/66 against nearly any machine for slow booting. I haven't timed it yet but I would guess more than 2 minutes for WARP! Usually I can do something on my Amiga while it boots so I don't lose the time. Now I have an Emplant…
1084s cables
Message #192332
Kevin: You might cal DJ's Computers & Electronics in Tucson. It's not quite Phoenix but they do say they repair Amigas so they might have or be able to make a cable for you. Ph: 290-1115. Of course, they call themselves an "Authorized repair shop for Commodore." Good Luck. If…

This is the way we jump in the thread! I have the 2nd generation GVP 68030 board. It runs at 22mhz and has the CPU direct mounted. The RAM thing bugs me, too, but the board has worked so well for 3-4 years now! I added a CD-ROM; no problem;…
A3000/No boot
Message #192102
Keith: Thanks much. I found the chip RAM & it's OK. I"ll look for that text file. Now I've definitely got a yellow screen followed by black. I'm told the fast RAM wasn't changed so it should be fine. I'll keep on trying. Tom

Mr. Zombie: The last I heard, they'd caught the Amiga Supra ROM flasher outside of Chicago. He's going to the big house. Tom Hunt

#WARP
Message #189194
I use WARP on a 486DX2-66 with an ATI Ultra video card and IDE & SCSI drives. I liked 2.1 & I like WARP but if I don't use it every day it always seems to require 2 warm reboots to get it running. Also after I'd been running it…
Emplant &A3000
Message #188727
Dege: I'm really interested in the Emplant board, preferably w/ROMs but either in a pinch. The A3000 sounds good but I want to check on 2 other deals (1 cheap A3k; 1 A4k). Let me know the price for the Emplant and I'll get back to you about the A3k.…
Warp 3040
Message #188726
Paul: Thanks for the word. I'm looking to pick up an A3000 or A4000 and WARP it eventually. The one is much cheaper but the WARp apparently works better on the A4000. Good luck! And thanks again! Tom
Paul: By your tag may I infer that the WARP board is the way to go? Let us know. Your the first new WARP user that I've seen come on the forum. Thanks! Tom Hunt
Erik: I got GP-Fax today. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I"ll tell you if it works. Thanks! Tom Hunt
Jim: What about us follically impaired people. I am NOT mature, compact, and bald! Tom Hunt
Sorry, Hank. It's on its way to Maine. It has db9 input as well as composite but I can't recall if it was a male or female. Tom Hunt
PMFJI! Monitor for sale! 1084S, works great, looks good. w/ power cable only. $150 + shipping. Answer here or E-mail. Tom Hunt
Michael: I'll be getting an Emplant board in the middle of March. I'll check out Cross-Dos on Emplant harddrive partitions then. I'll post the results afterward. Tom Hunt
Michael: That price was from the Jan '95 Amiga World. Safe Harbor carries it for "$99". It looks like a high price for now. There's always the Emplant board but that's "$339.95" just about everywhere and then you need MAC ROMs as well. Good Luck! Tom Hunt
I guess I'll jump in here. CROSSMAC, like CROSSDOS, is made by Consultron. at 8959 Ridge Rd Plymouth, MA 48170-3213. It's a utility to let the AMIGA read and write to MAC formatted disks. It's available through retailers approx. $103. Tom Hunt
Michael: I have an older 22MHZ GVP combo board. The boards DO use only a GVP SIMM-32. There was a mesage on this forum earlier this year about a different possibility but no certain info. The SIMMS are still advertised in AW at +/- $70 for 1MB and $205 for…
Betty. Thanks Tom
PMFJI. The Seagate designation "N" means SCSI. So It's a SCSI. Tom Hunt
James: I have a copy of "Bard's Tale" (the first one) that won't run under WB 2.04. The cover with the map got lost in a move. A few bucks over mailing gets you the disks if you want them. Thanks. tom Hunt
Paul: I got out my 1381A manual and it says: HSYNC–15.6 KHZ to 36 KHZ (automatically) VSYNC–45 HZ to 90 HZ (Automatically) Hor. 800 dots (500 tv lines) Ver. 560 lines (350 tv lines) .31 mm dot pitch Video band width 30 MHZ I can't use productivity mode because the…
Now I'm going to jump in with the mention of a very good genealogoy program. The Mormons use it and a call to their churh would probably get more info on it. It's for the PC (Darn it!) but I think it's text based so CROSS-PC could probably run it.…
Betty! I just want to thank you for all the help I've sen you put out in this forum. So…Thanks Mucho…and keep up the good work! Tom Hunt
Robb: OS/2 was the only "real" IBM product. else was MS or Future Domain or NICE. Tom Hunt
Andy: I saw an ad for a "68000 card" for the IBM. I didn't check the details because the price had way too many digits in it. It DID NOT say AMIGA, just 68000. A used A3000 would be cheaper even with EMPLANT. If I run across it again I'll…
PMFJI. SCSI is much worse on IBM machines, esp. DOS/Windoze. You get the same termination problems but not until you have gotten the software installed so it recognizes the SCSI bus. I'm once again running OS/2 which is MUCH better but I had to run Windoze for a while. i…
Scott: I would like to get DPAINT IV, GPFAX, Lemmings II, and the Fresh Fish CD. I make that $55. Let me know where to send the check and it will be on the way the next morning. Thanks! Tom Hunt
jonathan: Are you using a pentium chip to ask about the 28.9 modem? Tom Hunt

Jerry: Good move! Tom Hunt
Dale: It sounds great! BUT I will be busy earning $$ for an A4000 in AZ. Enjoy! Tom Hunt
According to the Amiga World message of 23 Jan, CEI made an offer; Commodore UK made a counter-offer. CEI's offer expired but they have since made a counter-counter-offer (?) You can get the message (Pre-recorded) at (603) 924-2195. Let's hope it ends soon. Tom
Jerry! AHA! I have had a very similar problem with my A2000 using an auto A/B switch. My IBM would do fine but the AMIGA would print gibberish. I swapped the cables around & IBM always worked thru the A side or the B side but A2000 = garbage. I…
Paul: Thanks again. Tom
Here I go again jumping in. I tried out my PC 1.44M drive onmy A2000. It worked fine but it wouldn't auto-sense a disk so I had to use the change disk utility whenever I pout in a new disk. I didn't have a hi density driver so I just…
Sorry Jon. No Emplant yet. I hate to admit it (shudder) but I use one of those IBM-type things, too. Twice the hardware; Six times the problems. OS/2 would be nice if it was a bit more stable, a bit faster and didn't need 50MB hard disk space! The AMIGA…
Jerry: Re. Thought controlled OS. If done properly then you just think the question and the computer sends you the answer. Not just invisible OS but invisible prog. too! Tom
Paul: "Wings" is a WWI flight sim game. i'm wondering if I should get a Retina ZII now or wait until I get an A4000 and then get the Retina ZIII. The Hsync on my monitor is 30-66khz; vsync is 50-90 hz. Thanks mucho. Tom
Here I go again tonite. PMFJI but I think the best OS should not be noticed so you just run your programs. The necessity of a memory manager on DOS/WiNDOWS is a great bad example of how not to "see" an OS. On the we just run our progs. OS/2…
PMFJI. I would like to use my NEC 5D monitor with my A2000, though I intend to get an A4000 eventually. Min. HSYNC is 30MHZ. What are the differences between the Retina ZII & ZIII boards? Will "WINGS" run thru those cards? Thanks much. Tom Hunt
Jon: I'm cheating so far. I just use light headphones and plug them in the front. There is a compnay called Multimedia TTS Systems that makes cables to go between the CD-ROM and the Sound card (on IBM) and the cable I have I may decide to butcher so I'd…
Michael: The Feb. Amiga World Mag. has several ads for 3.1 for the A2000. Devine, Software Hut, and Select Solutions all advertise it. Have fun. Tom Hunt
Scott: Re. WARP I have the PCI motherboard. My old IDE/IO card wouldn't let it even power up. Weird! I had a 386DX40 MB with a CYRIX 486 chip in it. OS/2 2.1 AND WPWIN6.0 both failed to install! WP installs on my NICE board. Sheesh! bye Tom
Scott: I had a similar experience with WARP. NICE 486DX2-66. Installed easily from CD-ROM. When I switched to the 486 MB from my 386 I only had v2.1 and it would not install! I opened my still-shrink-wrapped Windoze 3.1 and worked with that for a year one week. The more…
Charlie: I'm running WB2.04, A2000 w/GVP 22MHZ 68030. Good luck. Tom
Charles: I had a TOSHIBA 3301 CD-ROM drive lying around (single speed) so I put it in my 2000 and sent away for the XETEC software. It was just put the drive in the 5 1/4 slot and hook it up (power and SCSI) then install the software. Easy as…
