Steve, Duhhhh! Here's the phone number for Newton's Law 1-800-697-8667. I guess I should reread my messages before sending them, ehhh? 😉 Jim Jonah
Steve, Sorry it took so long to get back to you on the Newton's Law. I talked to the gentlman just before I got married, and now I can't find the slip of paper I wrote his name on. BUT, the person who answers the phone is most likely to…
Daniel, Oh yea!! I remember those days (thirteen that is, I still can't afford anything I want thought!) Well, have fun with Imagine. Is this your first animation program? Jim Jonah
Pawel, >>I don't know for sure, but it also seems to me that the market for A:M might be too small for the kind of give aways (or discounts) you propose…
Kevin, Thanks!! That tip will be very useful in the future! I'm sure there are other cool uses, but since I am fairly new to A:M, I haven't stumbled on them yet. One thing I am experimenting with is offsetting the figure from the ghost. What I am trying to…
Pawel, >>>>>Unless the animators in the tapes are getting royalties, would you consider building the tapes with the product?>I think the animators _should_ get royalties for their work…
Steve, I tried, in some of the other forums that Joe hangs out in, to try to help him out. When I asked him if he had purchased the training tapes, he said no. When I purchase A:M, I did get the tapes. For me, the tapes made a HUGE…
Thomas, Animation:Master relies on the file name staying the same. Also, by using the project feature as intended, moving around all of your folders for a project to a new location should simply be a matter of modifing the project path name. Hope this helps! Jim Jonah
Christopher, First of all, I would HIGHLY recommend the training tapes. They cover modeling and animation tips that not only show you how its done in A:M, but covering over into all 3D programs. This will be the best $55 you have every spent ;). Stick with it, A:M is…
Doug, If you don't mind, may I ask what are the tools you are using for the cartoon productions and why did you choose them? Thanks, Jin Jonah

Steve, I recently inquired about Newton's Law. They informed me that the product will soon port over to the PC from the Amiga. Looking at the list of products that it interacts with on the Amiga, I asked them why it doesn't support Animation:Master. They said they were supporting applications…
Breanna, Have you tried using a combination of the FOG.MAT and creating a "wispy" transparency map? In the new demo tape, the animation "Ball & Blocks" has some pretty convincing clouds. Hope this helps, Jim Jonah
Daniel, If you don't mind my asking, why did you chose Imagine? Jim Jonah
Kevin, Thanks for the SIG info. I'll see you there! Jim Jonah
Daniel, If (when) you get Animation:Master, I would HIGHLY recommend the training tapes. They teach you not only about Animation:Master (Playmation), but they also have excellent modeling and animating tips that apply to any 3D animation program. Jim Jonah
Kevin, I live near Detroit, how can I find out more on the Animation SIG group? Thanks, Jim Jonah
Steve, >>Yes, this technique will produce a 32 bit image, this is only useful when when using QT..
Rod, I saw your animation on the new demo reel. AWESOME!!! I'd be interested in purchases "Rod's Animation:Master Methods and Madness", even if it is just a newsletter!! Jim Jonah
Steve, Saving as a QuickTime file with colors set to millions+ produces an alpha channel, which is REAL convenient for bring into Premiere or Cosa After Effects for compositing. Isn't that 32bit??? Jim Jonah
Steve, >>I'm gonna make you wait in suspense to see the new changes though….
Joe, I just finished a CD-ROM for chryslers 1995 Neon. It was done in Director 4.0 and runs on both Mac and Windows. There is also seven hits songs (licensed from Sony) on the CD and the jewel case is a 16-page printed catalog. We tried to hit all possibilities…
Pawel, >>To control how dark the image appears through the lens you need to play with the Ambience value of the MagGlass.
Pawel, Thanks. If I remember right, I started apply the glass values directly in character, but wasn't happy with the refraction, so I the opportunity to explore the Materials editor. While in the Materials editor, I kept bumping the refraction up, the higher the better (since I'm trying to simulate…

Hi, I am trying to animate a magnifying glass. I have it modeled and the motion all set up, but I am not happy with the glass. I can't seem to make the glass clear and refract at the same time. I duplicated and edited the GLASS.mat with the material…
Douglas, The water is something I keep coming back to when I'm not buried in other projects. Right now I'm finishing up a CD-ROM catalog for the 1995 Neon, so I don't have much free time. I was excited about the fact that A:M has five wave generators, but when…
Steve, >>as for the speed of a PPC 8100 comared to our indy… I wouldn't know since we're not that lucky….all we have is a silly little 6100 but it comes pretty darn close to that P90
Mike, >>Make sure you use a Native engine for the PPC (is there one available?). It seems PPC's run regular mac software about the speed of a Mac II or slow Quadra and with no mathco support as of the latest emutator. I use a P-90 at home and Macs…
Hi, I am a new AM user. Just out of curiousity, how does the PowerMac 8100 fit in as far as rendering speed, in comparison the the p90 and the Indy? Also, does network rendering work cross-platform? In other words, if I purchased a Windows or an SGI license in…
#How to do water?
Message #146
Hi, I am a new Animation:Master user (on the PowerPC). So far I think its a wonderful program. Of course, I want to do the hard stuff right off the bat. I have been trying to create convincing water. I can get the wave texture in Character to look like…
