>What is the source of this Photoshop plugin? WHo is it from? It's from KNOLL software. I've seen it in various catalogs. Try DTP direct at 800 890-9371 ( I'm not sure, I don't have one of their catalogs handy, but I think they have it.) Bye David Camp
>Have you seen the Photoshop plugin called CyberMesh? It works like >displace to create a 3D mesh file DXF. Yes, I played with it for a few hours. Same problem… if you don't have a proper map, you can't get good results and I don't know of any easy way…
>t the alpha channel _is_ antialiased. If you're using SEEZ, the Z-buffer >isn't AA but alpha definitely is. Oh. I guess I got 'em mixed up, thanks >….. Premier. Will you be trying to use it with a PAR? Yes. I hope to. I was going to go with RAZOR,…
>There have been several reports from people who saw demos working flawlessly. I don't understand From what I hear, the windows NT software is coming along just fine (I guess that is what is demo'd at NAB) It's the Windows 3.1 code that seems to be having the problems. Apparently,…
>No doubt one of our production guys was feeding out false info. It looks >good for a June 15th ship date. The person that relayed the info about the delay to me , spoke to two of your "production" people at NAB. He was told that the windows 3.1 software…
Thanks Kyle
>I strongly suggest you check out DISPLACE, by Yost Group I don't think Displace would be much help in creating a face unless you already have proper map (with the high spots like the nose, white, and the low spots, like the eye sockets, black) After seeing the wonderful "wizard"…
>(as there is no way currently to tell a camera to render say frames 1-30 and and then proceed to render 120-150). >Sure there is, just render to the NET QUEUE. I haven't had much reason to futz around with NET QUEUE but now, with this solution to the camera…
>Would you like letterboxed, pan and scan, or anamorphic? Letterboxed would be best, IMHO … What was that motion picture type with the 3 70mm films running side by side…. VistaVision? Yeah…lets make the Siggraph Reel a real reel……. (real, reel…really now) DC
Hi Martin Do you find that 3D Studio is an adequate platform for motion picture resolution production work? I've only used it at video resolutions, but I've had an inquiry about a small mo-pic project. Also… I've had some news (not good) about a slight (?) delay in the Perception…
#Metaballs Question?
Message #165449
Hi Kyle A quick question to the MetaMan.. 😉 If I have a big bodied creature, would it be better to make a "skin of spheres? ie. to make my shape with a lot of little balls that together, make the shape I'm trying to get, but these balls just…
>. Make sure you have gamma correct "off" during this render. Oops, I forgot about that part…. Thanks David
#PVR Delay!!!!!!!:-(
Message #165445
I just talked to my dealer ( The Computer Room, Ft Lauderdale, Fl.) He just got back from NAB with some bad news…. The DPS sales people are telling everyone about a June release for the PVR, but the DPS engineer he spoke to said ( off the record) that…
Thanks for the info….. As I said, I won Premiere, so the decision was made for me. I keep hearing that there is (or soon will be) a direct connection between Premiere and the PAR (PVR?). Do you find that you use both programs at all, or does Premiere just…
>camera crane Wow… wonderful. would you mind giving a bit more detail about how you would use it in "the real world" Thanks a lot David Camp
Because of it's nature (8 bits) the alpha channel is not antialiased. The particles of the comet trail a probably too small to look good without aliasing. One possible solution would be to not render a separate alpha chan. but instead to make the comet trail a single color (…
>See my reply to Mark.. I saw it …..and I would rather not have to do it by hand later So I will be getting the IPAS ( assuming, of course, that they will work with the PVR.) Thanks again Greg David
>The latest version of Razor ….. I was going to get Razor Pro for editing ( for use with the upcoming DPS perception Video Recorder) but last week I won a copy of Adobe Premiere 4.0 for Windows….. and it is great also Premiere won the PC mag editors choice…
Oh, an audio guy eh? 🙂 How on earth did you know…. ( Ok…… I am TRYING to get into video, but I guess I can't hide my roots.. at least I'm not a drummer) Bye David Camp

>>>I'd really like Jag.. 🙁 >If I'm correct in remembering the product you're referring to, I think they >have a PC version (think I remember seeing it in a mail order cat. a long >while ago); 'course I could be mis-remembering again. I seem to remember the same thing… could…
>Just another case of Perception Overload. I have a feeling that we'll be seeing a lot of that. David
>Targa 2000, Got one, got an eisa, got a Maxtox max. >If you have the means I highly recommend getting all the above. It's a bit beyond my present means, but only the shadow knows what the future will bring. Thanks David

>If you are going to upgrade to r5 why would you want the PVR ipas, as >you can just have the PVR interface running while 3DSr5 is also running >in Win NT? Hmmmm……… Thanks David
>Why useless? I don't mind having a system bootable with Dos and >WinNT. Can I render in R4 to disk, boot NT, copy the files to the PVR and >then..? Jonus… I thought exactly the same thing. I sent him my reply before I read yours. thank you David
The PVR FAQ states that windows 3.1 software will be available for a while. Also I could set up a 486/66 16meg NT machine on a network and render from my DOS machine to that. If I don't have the money left over ( after I buy the PVR and…
Ok, "Putting off the PVR for the Perception"??? sorry I knew that I should put things in the Out basket before I send them. And Think before I write. silly me. -DC-
> Perception is it! Ok, you got me going…. What is it? what does it do? How much $$$ ? Where can I get it? Is it worth putting off getting the DPS PVR for? -DC-
>You should see the matrox series. Especially the matrox max package – I've seen it and it is great. I must say that I'm very happy with the Stealth 64. It seems to be fast in both DOS and Windows, with many cards, you have to choose an application for…

Hey there yesterday I was unable to logon to the avalon.chinalake.navy.mil FTP site. I tried it through my PPP connection with my service provider. It said "access denied", Now I just tried logging on through Compuserve FTP, same result, "access denied". I've never had problems getting in to that site…
PVR IPAS?
Message #164460
Well the Adobe Premiere vs. Razor Pro debate is over. I stuffed about 50 entries ( out of total of 100 entries in that contest ) into a drawing box for Premiere at a small trade show and Surprise, I won. My question is…. I've decided to wait until the…
> my time *is* fun to manage right now. Fun, huh? yaeh , I bet…. > With R5 jamming though the development pipeline, I can't wait to see what's in that package. God, It seems like Siggraph is a million years away ( but I'll bet it seems like a…

>I hope that gives you more of what you wanted, but reading over it I'm starting to doubt that's what you had in mind when you asked the question. Sorry to disagree with you but it was exactly what I wanted. I didn't have the slightest idea what quaternions were,…
#Quaternions?
Message #164210
Quaternions? Every where I go, I see this term. ( Ok, not at Dunkin' Doughnuts ) I known, as a 3D'er I should known how to BS prospective employers properly, so I guess I should be able to dazzle them with my knowledge of quaternions, the problem is that I…
I ran 3D Studio on a 2meg VRAM W9000 Viper. I thought it was great…. until I got a 2meg VRAM Stealth 64. If you want "Raw Power" then you should get the latest technology you can afford. Things change so rapidly in the computer universe that something that was…

> Most people I know use the PAR in an older machine Not a idea at that. Right now I just get started as a "Professional" animator (been dicking around for a few years, it's time to make some money!) Right now I only have one machine operational (P90 -…

>interesting point. I guess I'd have to get NT workstation for the PVR workstation >on our network, but that's OK since it's pretty much dedicated to that duty. The >timing is just right for our department to buy. Which brings up a quick question…. Even though I'll soon be getting…
>I'm hoping to get one for my department when they first come out in June. Do you know if there is any kind of PAR upgrade policy? Also, if you get it before I do, would you mind sharing any problems, tips, hardware conflicts, etc. Thanks David
>Mmmm, I did not send my registration card. I still have it. >That's probably why I did not receive those disks. >I'll send it tomorrow morinig. Good idea! David
