Dennis, Glad you got it working for ya, and thanks for the filename as it's found in GRAPHSUP. The name I gave you is how version 5.0 was uploaded to GRAPHDEV. Sorry for any inconvenience the incorrect filename may have caused you. -GreG
Michael, The PC version of 3.2 shipped late last week. The Amiga version as I understand it started shipping today, or will in the next day or so. -GreG
Ron, I don't speak for Impulse, I just support Imagine in another forum, but let me address some of your "bugs" that you found. For your points 1 and 2, apparently you are not using an Imagine.CFG file, or you are using one that got shipped with 3.2 (something Impulse…
Dennis, The graphics standard called VESA has nothing to do with the bus architecture known as VESA LOCAL BUS. Imagine 3.0 and on recognizes the VESA 1.2 graphics standard. If your video card is not VESA compliant, then Imagine will not recognize what video modes you have available. You can…
Kelly, Free another 1 to 1.5 Megs and you should be able to install the Docs. -GreG
Bruce, A state uses the parent axis as a reference axis. It's alignment or position will not be maintained throughout different states. If you need to use the parent axis for the humanoid models, add a null axis and make this null axis the parent to the humanoid form. -GreG
Howdy Blaq! The Impulse section in AmigaVendors is not as active as this area or the Imagine UG section in GUGRPA. Although Impulse checks into AmigaVen, they check in here more frequently. So, if you need something answered in a more timely manner, your best bet is to post a…
David, Mike will be away until Tuesday. Just letting you know in case you don't get a reply. I don't know what that means either. -GreG
>> Has anyone heard anything new about the next upgrade release of Imagine. William, Imagine 3.2 is undergoing the last legs of beta testing over the weekend. As to actual shipment, I don't know. >> …motion blur starfields…I know I can do it with Photoshop, but that means doing each…
Rob, Contact Impulse at 800-328-0184. There is an upgrade path to Imagine 3.0 for you. -GreG P.S. Imagine flies on a Pentium
>> Your flc is perfect. I'm psyched. Thanks a lot. Dan, Thanks, glad I came close to portraying what you depicted. >> How long did you spend on that, start of modeling to completed flc? Oye….couldn't tell ya. I modelled it very quickly in order to try out the IK…maybe…
Dan, To answer your question, yes. Check in your email to see the mechanism you depicted in ascii, animated. -GreG
Todd, LT is your best bet. Once you decide you need more, you can always upgrade. make sure to stop by GUGRPA with any questions once you get LT. -GreG
Todd, You can upgrade from LT to 3.0, or 4.0 depending which is the current version when you decide to upgrade. Mike could tell you the cost. The CD that LT comes on has a lot of stuff on it that does not come with 3.0, so you may be…
>> Hey GreG. We've missed you over in Graphdev. Howdy Dan, I miss not having the Imagine UG section there also. I do read all the threads there, so I keep up to date on the forum news/business/ramblings etc. >> What can you tell me about Imagine's IK? Can I…
>> I assume you use trial and error in morphing the facial features around, because you will need to render the image after each modification of the image wrap in order to see how it looks.
Tim, Thanks for the very informative message. Your thoroughness in your replies, as always, is cery much appreciated. I also want to say thank-you for your generous upgrade policy for the Imagine 3.xx versions of Humanoid. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next in your Kinemodelz.…
Tim, I noticed that you have the child model depicted in one of the renders you uploaded. Have the child objects been sent out yet to registered users of your Humanoid software? -GreG
want to buy imagine 3.0
Message #3698
Sam, You can order Imagine 3.0 directly from Impulse. All the information for contacting them can be found in the file CONTAC.TXT in the Impulse section here. There is also a distributer in the UK, but their name escapes me. Leave a message in section 3 here, I'm sure someone…
Sam, DTA21 does not read in TIF images, so it's of no use to Trevor. It was my first choice to recommend but after checking it, it has no TIF abilities other than writing gray scale TIF's. Correct me if I'm wrong…but I'm pretty sure on this. -GreG
Trevor, >> Do you know of a program that does a batch convert of Tiff files to TGA while keeping in a numpic series? > While I've got you reading, how about another question: Do you know of a good source for "Dungeon-esque" textures (tilable) such as stone, brick, Dungeon…
Trevor, For the time being save it as TIF and convert it with a 3rd party program. Imagine 3.2 is being wrapped up, and it has been fixed. -GreG
Jim, Rotating an object as you want is not something to be done through states. This is done in the Action & Stage editors. States are used for somewhat different functions. With states, you can create a default state for the shape of the cube, then deform it and create…
Randy, You can find ISL version 3.0b4 in the Graphics User Group A forum (GO GUGRPA) in the Imagine User Group file section. Both PC & Amiga versions are available. ISLIBM.ZIP is the PC executable, ISLAMI.LHA is the Amiga executable. -GreG
>> But who knows… maybe Impulse IS intent upon making Imagine as strong a Scanline renderer, as it is a Ray-tracer. (Mike, GreG?)
Tim, I know the bug you are referring to, and it seems to affect altitude maps when they are only locked to a state. Impulse is aware of it, though I don't know whether it's fixed for 3.2 yet. It is something that NEEDS to be fixed for states to…
>>Do you think this will slow down screen redraws at all? Tim, The added overhead for the increased screen size and 8 bitplanes does slow down screen redraws, especially if you don't have a super duper high end graphics card. >> Do you think Impluse'll put the options for #…
Yep, I pretty much got everything from Avalon that I wanted or didn't have already. Know of any other good sites? I already checked Aminet and ftp.netnet.net, but there's nothing new there. -GreG
>> Also since it's post process it would be possible to do the post process only so one could try with the parameters a little without having to re-render the whole image (at full resolution!) each time only to change some flare settings.
David, Thats great! Looking forward to checking out the files. I've been cruising the internet also…but many files are part of collections I need to get permission first before I upload. Many of them do not specify if they are for redistribution. And just having them in a public directory…
David, I ran across that also. But I think ONLY when I select that and nothing else. When I click on LAYER CHANGE->NEW OBJECT & COLOR CHANGE->NEW OBJECT everything goes fine. Is that pretty much when you encounter it? -GreG
>> that's the way IM 3.0 looks like, there is no nice box (at least I didn't get one, maybe there is one for sale in the shops).
#Upgrade of Imagine 3.0
Message #2914
David, Imagine 3.0 is the latest landmark release. However, Impulse offers a constant update program for $100 US. It entitles you to 4 updates (3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 4.0) as they become ready. Currently 3.1 has shipped, and 3.2 is just about ready to ship. I don't know if you…
Richard, I forwarded your message to ERI Support. -GreG Forum Staff
>> Can anyone give me pricing and distributor info for the Houston area. I downloaded a couple of files and this seems to be the product I am looking for.
BOOM.ZIP
Message #2798
Mike, Just looked at the animation BOOM.ZIP you just uploaded. WOW! Killer new special effect! You guys over there at Impulse never cease to amaze me, and never seem to dissapoint. Just fantastic…truely. -GreG
>> I can't afford the extra ram required for ray-tracing. Harry, Ray Tracing requires LESS memory than does Scanline rendering. Although very usefull and something that I also want, shadows in Scanline would even require MORE memory. -GreG
Bruce, Thanks..and sorry for not being there at 11:45 EST, but was busy hoisting a few myself. -GreG
Dave, Yes, many 3D Ray Tracing and CPU intensive packages in general require a math co-processor. Imagine is one of them, and will not operate without one. I'm sorry for this news, but on a brighter side…Have a Great 1995 -GreG
>> That Forum Staff do look nice…Happy, Safe and PROSPEROUS New Year!!! Grumble, kicking and screaming all the while I'm using it. Wishing you and yours the same Bruce. -GreG
Bruce, Update your address book with my new address….74774,232 -GreG
Danny, What platform are you on? If you are on the PC and have a CD ROM drive, Impulse just released Imagine/LT on CD for the PC for $100. Imagine LT (lite) is the full version of Imagine, with only a few advanced features disabled. They also also offer a…
Michael, Constant Update version for the PC is $100. Albrect wants to upgrade to 3.1 for the Amiga and for the PC. He already owns Amiga 3.0, so it's $100 for the constant update program. He also wants to do the same for the PC, so I assume to get…
Richard, Imagine/PRO 3.0 costs $695 Imagine/LT (lite) comes on CD and costs $99 You can also upgrade to 3.0 for $300 if you use the coupon that comes with the book "3D Modelling Lab", or if you currently use another package Impulse offers a competetive upgrade to 3.0 for $300.…
Antonio, Also make sure to stop by the Graphics User Group A forum (GO GUGRPA) where we have the Imagine User Group. -GreG
Antonio, Imagine 3.0 is the current official version. Imagine 3.1 is part of Impulse's CONSTANT UPDATE program. The program costs $100.00. With it you get 4 updates during the course of the year which started May '94, and ends May '95. You get 3 intermediate versions as new features are…
>> if I have I plastic model and want it to have thin "walls" not doublesided polygons. I have to digitize first outside a car body and then the Inside…to get a thickness of the carbody.
Walter, You can find many objects in Imagine format over in AmigaArts (GO AMIGAA) in the 3D section, and over in the Graphics Use Group A (GO GUGRPA) forums in the Imagine UG section. -GreG
>> Went back and reloaded ICP and lo, there was the converter. Glad to hear it Ash! Now I'm just waiting for John to get ICP+ for the PC so _I_ can convert objects! -GreG
Howdy John! I've been around, but moved from the Amiga to the PC platform. Still doing 3D work…a lot of it is available in AMIGAVEN and GUGRPA. GUGRPA is a new forum where I look over an Imagine User Group section. Good to see ya again! -GreG
