#Graphite no go on R3
Message #61924
Got it, VESA.COM wasn't running. I thought that it was in my autoexec.bat but was actually in a batch file I used for running R2. Though, I don't quite understand why I need a vesa driver for running a board specific instalation. Ian.
Yes, no response yet.
#Graphite no go on R3
Message #61685
Just got 3DS3. Can't get it installed on my Graphite card. The installation program says that it can't find the card and therefore assumes that I don't have one (perhaps I should show it my receipt.) The card works fine with 3DS2 using the Hercules supplied drivers, and works with…
As much as I love 3DS, I'd still like to import models from typestry; it really does a fabulous job of modelling fonts.

Will the book cover 3R specifically? Ian.

Don't know anything about Animator but for Painter, when installing Painter (you may need to do it again) coose to install Painter's CalComp driver. It is compatible with CalComp's tablet manager. Ian.
The 8205 sounds like a pretty good alternative. Could you tell me more about your software? Ian.
>> Bring proof of registration… I'll present my dongle at the door. Ian.
#invitation?
Message #51037
Should I have received an invitation to the 3D Studio SIGGRAPH event? As far as I know I am a registered user (I sent in the card.) Ian.
#exabyte 8205
Message #51036
Are you familiar with the Exabyte 8205? Apparently it is similar to the 8200 but 1/2 height, and with a fast search mode. Ian.
What was the problem with the 8200? Features or performance? Ian.
#data tape advice
Message #50513
The price is tempting and 250mb seems adaquate for now, but thats what I though about the 44mb syquest; now they look like pricey floppy disks. I think I need to keep enough capacity available for future expansion. Exabyte apears to be the closest thing to a standard, so it…

The price of DAT machines are real tempting, but often have to FedEx output media. I couldn't bring myself to do that with a tape drive! Exabyte seems like the default choice. I(an.

Message #50511
Sounds like the 8200 is my best choice (just can't see going over 2 grand, even though the fast search feature would be real helpful.) Ian.

Perhaps the Exabyte 8200 might be a good compromise price-wise. Too bad about lack of standardization amoung DAT's. When will industry listen to what users want? Ian.
Apres-video… tres chic! Ian.
Sounds interresting. I expect that JAG, the apres-rendering anti-aliasing tool may help with the lack of anti aliasing. Ian.
Are there any limits to the output resolution? I do still illustrations at 2000×3000. Ian.
It comes with DGCALCMP.EXP which does not work properly with 3DS2. I have been unable to map an area greater than 4×5 inches on the tablet and when the cursor reaches the edge of the screen the correspondence between the tablet coordinates and the screen coordinates is lost. It works…
#Tablet Support
Message #47010
I just bought a Calcomp Drawing Board tablet which works great with everything except (sigh) 3DS. Any thoughts on how to get this to work? The tablet supplies a Summa emulation, but 3DS doesn't recognize it; the Calcomp tech support guy doesn't know why, but expressed a hope that future…

Message #46814
Just to narrow things down a bit – what mode are you using the tablet in? When I use the ADI driver only a small part of the tablet is utilized. Setting a much lower DPI helps (200) broaden the tablet area but does nothing to solve my other problem;…
#calcomp dbII
Message #46738
Does anybody have any experience in setting up a Calcomp DrawingBoard II to work with 3DS? I'm not having much luck in setting it up or reaching tech support. ( Not to mention the cordless pen arrived with dead batteries ..grrr) I'm strongly considering returning it for a Wacom. Ian.

Does anyone know of a utility that will allow a pc to read/write Mac format Syquest disks? I'm also looking for a image file converter for the pc that will read SGI image files (from Alias). Ian.
Yes, I'd be interested in that too. Also a 3DSRIB converter also. Ian.
I bought it through Washington Computer Service in NYC. After tax and variou charges the price comes to about $860.00. I believe that you have to be either an educator or grad student (I'm in the latter catagory.) Yes, it is version 2. I hope your'e not in a hurry…
#order when?
Message #36449
I ordered an educational discount version of 3D Studio about 6 weeks ago through a local Autodesk dealer who said that the order would take a couple of weeks. The check was cashed early February but still no sign of the product. All the dealer can say is "It should…
