>> The really best realistic looking water surface can be produced by using RayMan 1.5. If you would like to see an example, download COLDPIER.JPG from the ASHOWCASE forum. Andrew
Mike, There's a tileable wave bump map in the ASHOWCASE forum (fourwav.jpg) that has worked well for me in the past. If you want more realism than that you may want to try and find a copy of the proceedings of the '86 SIGGRAPH, which has an interesting article by…

>> As you see RayMan 1.5 supports animation but is still a pure raytracer. I didn't know there was a V1.5 out. Guess I should pay more attention. Andrew.

Michael, Can you say whether or not RayMan will become a 3DSMAX plug-in or not?

>> I use 3DS R4 but IPAS pricing has been insane I think there is some hope that IPAS pricing may actually come down a bit because programming them will get easier and there will be a greater range of tools available to write them (in theory anything that can…
#181627 #New release of 3DS Message #181731
Once 3DS/NT has been revealed at SIGGRAPH and the cat is out of the bag, is there any chance of getting some screenshots uploaded for those of use who can't make the show?
#174671 #Rayman & self-illum? Message #176016
Michael, Any news on the Rayman & self-illumination problem? Andrew.

#174502 #Rayman & self-illum? Message #174521
Michael, I wasn't expecting self-illuminated materials to act as lights (though I agree it would be a great feature. I have seen a radiosity renderer for .3DS file that does just that). To try and track down the problem I created a simple scene containing just one sphere, one camera…
Rayman & self-illum? Message #174292
Michael, I was hoping you could clarify something. Rayman doesn't seem to support self-illuminated materials. The manual doesn't mention this either way. Is it so? Thanks in advance. Andrew Reid.
>> shell of 3DS or in a DOS window of Windows, Windows NT or OS/2 >> but it`s only a DOS program. When I try to run RayMan in an NT command-line window it complains about not being able to see the dongle. Am I missing something?

Michael, Glad to hear animation is on the list for Rel 2. Rayman is a great product even without it! Can you share any more release 2 features? Andrew.

>> I made some water animations in 3DS and with RayMan. Does this imply that Rayman can render animations. I didn't think it could. Andrew.

Greg, Nothing to do with 3DS but there are a couple of articles in Computer Graphics Vol 20 No 4 (SIGGRAPH proceedings) about making realistic sea waves which do things like change direction to match the coast-line and change wavelength and shape with water-depth. Andrew.
Nik, Thanks for your help. I'll make sure I 'try before I buy' Andrew.
Hi all, I notice that the list of vibrant drivers for 3ds4 has the Diamond Stealth 64 listed but doesn't mention PCI or VLB or DRAM or VRAM etc. Are any of these things relevant or does the driver support all configurations? Thanks in advance, Andrew

Garry, If it's any help I managed to order a copy of Inside 3DS from Dymocks bookshop in North Sydney last week (they said it was due around the 10th) Andrew

Marc, I'm curious – what sort of money does 3DS V2 go for? Andrew (still saving…)
Hello, I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions about 3DS for me. 1) Are there any plans to port 3DS to Windows NT? 2) Is there or will there ever be a "student" edition (like for AutoCad) of 3DS? Thanks in advance, Andrew.
