Send me your mountlist file. Do you specify a RAM size when you run IBeM? When you take an ASSIGN, does it show IBMC as being mounted? Did you change your DOS TYPE to 3 in your Mountlist for your CrossDOS entries? I need more data from you to make…

I still have the 2000. It was the OTHER guy who was running a 3000. Eric Pinnell

I believe it is called MSDOS1.LZH and is in AmigaTech Library 11. Eric Pinnell

No, I haven't had experience using the hard drive. The only suggestion I can offer is to set up your IBMC device as per the mountlist entry in your CrossDOS manual. Eric Pinnell

Funny, but to list to ST people, you'd think THEY owned the market. ANd according to PCMAG, 80% of the European computers are PCs. All of which goes to show you that there is a lot of disinformation floating around about the computer markets. Eric Pinnell

Thr only theory I can suggest is that you are running the IBeM emulator in 68000 mode. There are two programs: IBeM and IBeM000. You want to run the first one, not the second. If you can tell me exactly what you are doing, I may be able to figure…

I'm surprised. Then again, Europe is big on the Atari ST too. Perhaps it's because "Big Blue" isn't as dominating in Europe as the US. Or maybe the Europeans are smart than we are. Or maybe it's just that Commodore US is run by a bunch of near-sighted neanderthals. Or…

Yes, I was looking for your ID in the User directory. I wonder if this is a problem relating to TAPCIS. I changed my command settings to MENU, and then tried looking up your UID. Very odd this… Eric Pinnell

The Amiga has been around a long time. THe problem is that most computer magazines don't carry accurate figures as to the total installed base of machines. Odd how Europe loves the Amiga and Atari ST much more than the US. Then again, "Big Blue" is far more pervasive in…

I find it hard to believe that the Amiga is selling at one million units per year, since Apple's hot new Mac line is only selling 600,000. There are only 5 million Macs in the US, versus 1.5 millon Amigas. Of course, I have seen figures vary from different sources,…

Well, I have high hopes for a Commodore 4000. If it's going to appear, it'll be at Comdex in October. Could be a HOT machine.. Or maybe it'll be vaporware until 1992. Who knows?

You want frustrated pleas? It can be arranged, for a very MINIMAL fee! Yes, the books were a great help. Not rain nor snow nor even computer viruses can slow me down. heck, I've even used the IBeM emulator with the Multiverse Player Assist software, and it works (albeit rather…

Thanks for sending me your info sheets on the ECS chip set and future developments on the Amiga. It was gracious of you to do so. BTW, I tried to find your userID, but I can't. So I hope this gets to you, or someone can relay it to you.…

Difficult but not impoosible. Perhaps the solution is for individual software vendors to develop their own translators, or else offer a cheap upgrade to a different hardware platform. Eric Pinnell
From: Cybersim Inc. Amiga Tech Forum · Forum Business/Help August 13, 1991 11:36 AM
Perhaps. But it would be usedful is softyware vendors provided low upgrades to move a user to a newer platform, or else provided a translator for their own product. THAT would be legal. We're getting off the topic here. I have one IBeM question which someone might be able to…

I agree that the task for developing a cross compiler is not easy. But, if you're a computer manufacturer, you've got to convince buyers to basically dump their old hardware AND SOFTWARE for stuff that will run on your machine. The Intel line has (wisely) been backwards compatible with the…

Migrating from the 68000 to the 78000 RISC chip is actually fairly easy. Most of the 78000 instructions are a subset of the 68000. I think we'll see more RISC machines simply because software has a nasty habit of expanding to fill the computing and memory capacity of your machine.…

Looks for Commodore to issue a 4000 model. Since they've got a contract with Motorola for the 68040, I would be surprised if they didn't have a new machine soon. Yes, Commodore is run by idiots. They do not understand that in the computer field, you cannot rest on your…

I do not believe that a translator is that difficult. Consider IBM's OS2 2.0. It runs DOS, Windows, and OS2 apps. Basically, it uses systems calls, and then does the equivalent think under OS2 2.0. Translating code would be tough, but far from impossible. All you need to do is…

If software vendors want to continue brisk sales, then they had better realize that once a user has the apps he wants, he's not going to go out and spend thousands to move his stuff to new machines. Sorry, but I do not believe that any licencing agreement that forbids…

Well, I finally got the little bugger to work, and you wouldn't believe what the problem was. The IBeM emulator has its own mountlist file in it, and the emulator must default to looking at that mountlist once running. Once I had renamed the mountlist file to MOUNTLIST.BAK, everything works…

I'll try your suggestion about getting the amiga to read an MSDOS diskette. I've tried using 3.3 DOS and 4.01 DOS diskettes with IBeM and it doesn't work. There is probably a simple explanation for the problem, I just wish the author had written it in his documentation. My problem…

The system doesn't come back with "DI0 already mounted". It says "Not A DOS disk in Unit 0". BTW, IBeM documentation says it wants me to change the DOS Type to 3. Could MountMF be complaining about this? Eric Pinnell

The reason I want the extra video modes is that it will mean I can support the extra modes on my machine. It would be rather foolish to write Amiga software only to turn around and say to the 3000 users "sorry, we don't support and hi-res modes". Eric Pinnell

I don't need a lot of speed. The application I use is mostly moving small amounts of data around and changing the text display. As long as it isn't REALLY sluggy (like PCDitto on the ST), then it'll be fine. Eric Pinnell

I assume you refer to the file that comes with crossDos. the problem is that when I run MountMF, it keeps telling me "DI0 mounted". I've changed the DI0 through DI2 entries to IBMA thorugh IBMC, but there is no change. Eric Pinnell

I have recently installed CrossDos and the IBeM emulator, and have come across a small snag. CrossDos labels the floppies as DI0:, and CrossDos expects to see IBMA:. How can I tell the MountMF program that I want to now call all future DI0's as IBMA? Eric Pinnell
