Much though I've been happy with SAS's compiler over the years, I'd much prefer to see Escom/AT try to get a more up-to-date compiler and environment ported to our machine, like Metrowerks Codewarrior… Metrowerks seems like they're open to deals of various sorts. (Okay, okay, so it's a Mac product.…
> FYI, I have a complete emulation of a FLEX system for the Amiga. > Multi disk drives, file transfer utilities, terminal emulation… Wow… I remember FLEX. Barely. For it's time, it was a pretty good OS. I even remember the 6809… I was a member of a small 6800…
Did the KIM-1 predate the SWTPC 6800? I don't recall the timing, but they were pretty close… Of course, the SWTPC was a kit, but when you were done, unlike the Altair, you *did* have a machine consistant with the other SWTPCs out there, and they *all* had the same…
0xE0 did indeed do the trick. Bob Rakosky pulled it out of some code he had written and let me know yesterday. Since then I managed to wade through some docs on the blitter and understand where the 0xE0 came from (ABC|ABNC|ANBC) but I still don't understand *why* it works…
Many thanks! Changing the minterm to 0xE0 made it work like a charm. I still have no idea *why* it works. I may try and figure it out at some point, but not tonight… –>Steve Bennett
Thanks. I'll give that a try… –>Steve Bennett (One of these days I'll figure out those &^%$& minterms… )
Actually, I *have* the mask. Since the images being blitted are all out of a single data file, I made up a second set of images for the mask, all one bit plane, when I decided to try to use BltMaskBitMapRastPort(). What I *don't* understand is why the results turned…
Color 0 transparent blit
Message #38919
I've been going nuts today trying to do what I thought was a simple graphics operation but which just doesn't seem to want to work. Basically, given a source with some pixels set to Color 0 (the background color), I want to be able to copy all the pixels which…
A standard Amiga floppy drive is incapable of reading Mac 800K floppies. This is because the Mac uses a weird scheme which varies the speed of the floppy rotation depending upon which track you are reading/writing. The Amiga drive runs at a fixed speed, so it is incapable of reading…
Okay. Firstly, you'll need the following files: LHARC.ZOO, ZOO201.ARC, and ARC.EXE. All three are in AmigaTech, LIB 4. Once you have them, (and assuming that you called ARC.EXE just plain "ARC" when you downloaded it…), you get the ZOO program with the following command: ARC X ZOO201.ARC Then, once you…

Well, you could always convert IFF files to GIF format (using AMGIF), and then use one of the innumerable GIF conversion programs over in PICS to convert to whichever arcane IBM graphics format you happen to be using. –>Steve Bennett
"Sliced Hold and Modify", aka SHAM, is a variation on the "Hold and Modify" (HAM) display mode of the Amiga. Normal HAM images are based on a palette of 16 colors, and all other colors on the screen are formed by holding the color of the previous pixel and modifying…

As of right now, I'm not aware of any such program, although the demand for one is certainly there… A screen grabber won't help, either. –>Steve Bennett
Wha? Sony Laser Disk Recorders? As in consumer level stuff? I wasn't aware there even were such things… How much are they selling for? And can normal Laser Disk players play disks produced on the recorders? –>Steve Bennett

ZOO is very similar to ARC. It is located in LIB 4 of the AmigaTech forum. The command to unZOO a file is "ZOO x// .ZOO". There are also other archival formats in use currently (WRP and LZH). You might want to look at ARCHLP.EXE, currently in LIB 1 of…
Actually, you don't need to unpack GIF images. GIF is a non-computer specific picture format, orignated by CIS a few years back. To view these on an Amiga, you need a GIF viewing program. Two such programs, both available here in LIB 9, are HAMGIF, and VirtGIF. GIF files don't…

I thought that one of the DigiView products had something similar? The idea has been passed around by several people before, I know. (I seem to recall a thread which mentioned the Spectrum 512 stuff on the Atari ST and wondering why nobody did that on the Amiga to reduce…
Generally speaking, use the later one. Almost every SHAM image on this forum is in the newer format. And I expect that all the new SHAM images will also be the newer format. You can tell, if you wish, by doing a "TYPE OPT H" and looking at the beginning…

Shamview is in the file SHAM.ZOO, currently in LIB 1 (soon to be moved to LIB 9…). Supersham is in the file SUPERS.ZOO, also in LIB 1 (and also soon to be moved to LIB 9…). –>Steve Bennett
As of right now, no. I've got plans to add this into AMGIF, once I find out what the format of the special chunk SHAM uses is, and I have the time (Hah! Time? What's that?) to do it. –>Steve Bennett
Well, technically, SHAM 3.0 pics *are* IFF images. The only difference is a special chunk which describes the palette data for each line. Unfortunately, because only SHAM viewer programs at this time know about this extra chunk, any attempt to use a SHAM image in a "normal" paint program will…

Voyager/GIF controversy
Message #22126
We Amiga users are somewhat isolated from the impact of GIF because it doesn't (yet…) support our machine to it's fullest. But GIF use elsewhere has really blossomed out, not only on most CIS forums, but also on most of the BBS's in the US, as well as other competing…
I'm not aware of anything which will convert directly from Deluxe Paint on the IBM to IFF on the Amiga. (Technically, they're virtually the same format, but the IBM DPII files use 8 bit planes, which aren't normal for IFF…) On the other hand, it is quite possible to convert…

Actually, you can only do a true 16 greyscale, not a 32 greyscale. (Although one can get intermidiary *almost* grey colors to generate a pseudo 32 greyscale.) Extra Halfbrite does not count, since not only do some of the greys overlap when the initial registers are set for 16 grey…
