>>By the way, have you tried release 2? I'm using 2.0. David, BLUR
>> Am I the only one having problems… I've had nothing but problems trying to do some very simple stuff w/ Lenzfx 2. It seems everything I need to do with it ends in total frustration… from random crashes, occlusion problems, glow problems, and simple (small) glows taking 20 minutes…
Hi Matt, I was just about to reply to your first question, but I see you figured it out. Of course my answer probably wasn't what you wanted to hear… I was just going to say use the envelopes. I'm fighting a problem myself with occlusion and that annoying little…
>>For LenZFX to accurately track a light or object, the light or object cannot be linked to anything. This is a VERY serious limitation… How would you attach a flare to a portion of an object (like an engine of a spaceship that consisted of several objects, if you can…
>>My sources reveal the following information on Dave Stinnet: CIS 70214,774 Blur Studio 1332 Main St. Venice, CA 90291 For Alec and all, Blur Studio's NEW address (as of 7/95) is… Blur Studio 1130 Abbot Kinney Venice, CA 90291 We actually out-grew our first place in just 3 short months.…
Make sure the Tifs don't have an alpha channel. I've run into some pretty strange things when using 32 bit tifs. If they do, just bring them back into Pshop or Qfx and lose the alpha. Just an idea… David, BLUR
>>Maybe this is a better question for Digimation… I'm afraid it is. I really don't know anything about LenzFX 2, other than the fact that its way behind schedule (original schedule anyway… last I heard was mid sept. I don't know how they're doing for that date). Sorry. Anyway, if…
Thank you. David
>>and a solid medium grey where the matte objects are.(?) Are you rendering with fog? That will tend to mess up matte object alphas.
>>Is the blue horizontal flash part of the second lens flare or a painted map? There were actually 4 separate flare elements in the scene, and the blue flash was one of them, done with FX. >>I assume the bright flash the traces over the letters in an animap. Not…
>>I'm trying to do an effect with LenZFX and it isn't working correctly. If you have seen the SIGGRAPH 95 tape there is a logo for Triumph Films. I assume they used LenZFX for the effect. Yes, lenzFX was used for the triumph logo (I did that piece while I…
thanks. David
Thanks, I'll try the VP method for now. David
>>only when I get a darned good .3ds to .obj converter that supports mapping. A company called Innerspace Labs makes a 3DS to OBJ converter that keeps mapping coords and even keeps some hierarchy info. I've used it, but I don't know if the mapping works or not. The #…
PMJI, but I think you mentioned using a utility to interlace two images together a few days back. Could you possibly lead me to it…? We have the need to interlace (alternate scanlines) several series of images. Thanks. David, BLUR
>>If you have not seen World Builder yet… I have seen the pictures, and they do look incredible. I have not seen the program itself (their booth at siggraph was a mob scene), but the price seems in line if its all it claims to be. It IS at the…
>>the price should be close to the current price. Oh good. that seemed like an awfully high price jump. Do you know when it will be available? David, BLUR
>>That is what I heard also. It IS going to cost $1k??? depressing…. David, BLUR
>>This sounds like a job for keycript If you write it, I'll use it. 🙂 "keysciptedly challenged", BLUR
>>and Enjoy your 'Labor Free' ? Labor day. Labor free… HA! I wish. Case of beer?? Can you give me a day off instead? David, BLUR
>>Unfortunately, welding the object will remove mapping coordinates and defeat the purpose of working on detached faces. If the object is not too complex, the verts can be welded -one at a time- without losing mapping coords. Mapping will only be lost if you weld -selected- verts. David, BLUR
I just want to know that if an NT specific version of KPT (not Bryce) came out, its not going to cost a thousand bucks. (considering that the existing KPT 2.0 only costs around $150). David, BLUR
>>And *I* heard that KPT Pro NT was going to cost about the same as WB anyway… "KPT Pro NT", as in the Pshop plugins, or do you mean KPT Bryce NT, as in the landscape generator? David, BLUR
Tapedisk info
Message #185413
Hello all, Can someone give me a phone# where I can get info on Tapedisk, or any other tape/hard drive emulation software (I believe there are a couple out there now…)? Thanx, David, BLUR
>>We've discovered a separate problem with dashed lines on the Video VRAM cards, but I don't know if it happens in 3DStudio. I'm not sure what they mean by dashed lines, but in 1024, 8 bit main display, if I move a dummy in the keyframer, it will leave a…
Thanks for checking. David
>>Are you sure you have a 928 chip? They're brand spanking new "stealth 64 video vram's", although I will admit I have yet to look at the chip itself. We need to spend a little while tweaking the systems and seeing exactly what res's work and what don't, as well…
>>STLBIOS.EXE… Tried it and it pretty much trashed my 1024 display. I still haven't had time to go in and really tweak it, but stlbios.exe certainly wasn't the quick fix I had hoped. David, BLUR
>>I can use TGA s and convert them to MJPEG… 3DS will render to TGA at a frame rate of 14.085, how can I get 3DS to up the FPS to 25… There is really no such thing as a frame rate in as far as targa (or any other…
Thanks for the info. I've gathered a wishlist for useful meshpaint features while using the program over the past few weeks. I don't have time to upload them now, (they're written on several 'post-it' notes) but I'll try to get that to you soon. Hopefully some of the suggestions can…
Well, it seems to me that if alot of people are having compatibility problems using standard configs with standard hardware, then it's a copout for anyone to say "well, it works with our top 'o' the line, custom-built systems, so the problem must be with your cheap components and software".…
>>The other new feature is called "Polymap". "The other new feature…"? Does this mean that 1.1 only has 2 new features? If not, could a list be uploaded containing descriptions of the enhancments? Thanks. David, BLUR
We got the new systems in, and the Stealth Video VRAM cards seem to work… with only one catch, they only work in 1024 res. at 24 bit. I'll let you know if any real problems crop up. Thanks, David, BLUR
>>and it works perfectly in 3ds with 964 drivers, We just got some of the new stealth cards in, and the only res that works with 3DS on our systems is 1024×768, at both 8 and 24 bit (haven't tried 16 bit). All lower resolutions fail in Vibcfg, so in…
>>(I've always wanted to see a piece about 3DS in Cinefex…) Hopefully there will be more in the future… David
>>Plus, there were excellent articles about 3DS being used for JohnnyM in the Hollywood Reporter and Animation Magazine. Don't forget the latest Cinefex…. 🙂 David
>> the price just seems outrageous. I got lucky in that regard. I was a registered user of Vibrant's Pro-res 3ds drivers from R2, so when R3 and LS came out, I was able to get it for the special price of $99 (I think). If I had to pay…
I've got Liquid speed at home, but I haven't felt the need to bring it down to the studio and run it at work. I'm sure I will though…. when I wind up buried in a complex project. David
>> I run the main-display at 1600×1200. Yikes. Does running at this res slow the display down much? We have some new Microns coming in a week or two with the new Steaths (at least I think they will be the new ones…) I hope they work without the problems…
I think there's some confusion as to what cards are being used. I have a Diamond stealth 64 VRAM 4 meg card and it works fine, but Diamond has replaced this card with the newer Stealth 64 'Video' VRAM card that uses the new S3 968 chip (as opposed to…
>>The skin/slice modeling solution uses UV mapping to apply its textures, so you wouldn't be able to accurately use Meshpaint on objects that are skinned because you can't apply UV mapping to a general mesh object, … If you are creating objects in the lofter for use with slice/skin, then…
Keep in mind that you can use the time based spine envelope in Lenzfx to control the size, intensity, etc of the flare (or separate elements), so you can have it flare up from zero to full intensity over any range of frames as it emerges from behind an object.…
If you set all the slaves and workstations to have the exact same main display size, then they -should- all render properly. If some machines are set, for example, to 800×600 and some to 1024×768, then the 800×600 machines will render the objects in frame larger than the other machines.…
Thanks, I'll mail Adam about the demo. >>Wacom… I got my Art-Z tablet to work (at the shop), but only in mouse mode, both summa and the 3ds wacom driver won't work. However, even in mouse (relative) mode, its pretty easy to use, even on all normal 3ds operations, so…
Hi Bill, Is this the full version of Real 3D, or is it a slimmed down version being marketed more for the modeller? If it is the full version, is it a new release? Will there be a fully functional non-save demo made available? Before spending >$500 on a program,…
>>It turned out to be a problem with the way DOS interprets the "=" sign in a batch file. The "=" is dropped….. Sorry if I'm hopping in on this one a bit late, but I use the "set=…" statement from batch files all the time to start 3ds in…
>>problems running my Wacom SD-1212 mouse drivers with the latest PAR software… I had the same problem when I upgraded to a P90 a few months ago. I was having all kinds of problems with the par, my scsi controller, and some other things, and spent two weeks trying to…
>> I'd really like Jag.. 🙁 Jag IS available for windows. I bought it a couple of years ago, but haven't needed to use it yet… it's still laying around here somewhere. If you check the larger mail order places, you should still be able to find it. David
It would be real helpful to implement both of those options. Bringing in just selected faces would help to speed redraws and renders on complex objects by keeping the geometry overhead down. And having the option to just paint on the material of choice is greatly needed. Instead of just…
>>Unfortunately, that information is not available from IPAS. We can get the material name, but not a list of images associated with it. (Unless I'm mistaken!) Check out MATBZ1.zip in lib 1 here. It's a PXP material browser demo that will read all the attributes of a material and let…
