What's the SCSI id of the CD-ROM — try 2 thru 6. If it's 1, your controller may be "recognizing" the CD-ROM as a variant of a hard drive.
You can attach the HD and CD-ROM to the single host adapter (card). You'll need some kind of software driver for the CD-ROM.

Why don't you think a Y-cable (if you could find one) would work ??? This is exactly what an internal SCSI cable IS — it's one 50-conductor cable with many female plugs on it — you just make sure the last drive in the chain is terminated.

What SCSI address did you set the Toshiba to ??? Have you terminated the SCSI bus properly ??? Is there anything else on your host adapter ??? Is the Toshiba an internal or an external one ???
