Teig, If you can afford it, I would recommend ImageFX for painting and image processing and Brilliance for animation. I realize using Brilliance doesn't allow you to use the Picasso modes, but it is much faster than DPaint V, uses the same keyboard equivalents and IMHO has superior animation controls.…
Asha, I have noticed the color problem, but have experienced none of the other problems with my Picasso and DPaint V. Sorry to have taken so long to respond to your message, but my system hard drive died Sunday to keep me from attending the conference. How did the conference…
Teig, DPaint V will work on a Picasso screen, but neither the other DPaint's nor Brilliance will work. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Al, Try Chris Fenwick in the NewTek forum. Chris doesn't work for NewTek or Innovision, but regularly answers AlphaPaint questions there and is very knowledgeable. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
John, Please call (312) 238-9726, I'll take the Monitor. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Micropolis drives
Message #122535
Hank, I'm changing the topic of this thread, hope you don't mind. My drives don't really make noise, but I noticed something strange just now. I have a clip on my non A/V drive that will only play in a project when it is cut to. It will not play…

Sam, The SuperCam is nice, but from what I hear, before the end of the year the new digital cameras from Sony, Cannon and Panasonic will cost about half what the SuperCam costs, with quality equal to BetaCam SP. I'll believe it when I see it. I've heard that the…
Glad you were lucky. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
PMFJI Wayne, I experienced the symptoms you described and found that disabling the AlphaPaint libs switch cured my problem. I put a semi-colon in front of all references to the AlphaPaint fix, problem went away, along with access to Jerry's fonts. :^( I liked those fonts too. Regards, Norman Austin…
Mark, PMFJI, but which Micropolis drives do you have? I have two Micropolis 9gigs, one A/V and one non-A/V and the A/V drive failed the drive speed test for HQ5 that came with 4.06. None of the drive was HQ5 capable, although I have been using HQ5 with it and…
Sam, Believe me I will do a backup tape from now on. The SuperCam has 700 lines of resolution coming off the camera section and only 400 lines off tape I didn't want to lose any resolution and wound up losing everything. Had I not been cheap, I'd have gone…
Chris, Sounds like an article to me. How did you cover yourself, or did you leave yourself exposed like I did? Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Hank, I read about that and was pleased to hear it, because it meant that I would soon be able to complete/start my projects. I don't mean to be hard on NewTek, I believe they're trying and in most cases I read about lately, succeeding at producing a product that…
Chris, Please do, Alpha Paint is a very powerful program, that I've been using for a while, but I'd definitely like some more tutorials that could possibly lead me into unexplored territory. Incidently, I really liked your article in VTU, and admire your guts, using the Flyer live. It's going…
Greg, I recorded everything directly to the Flyer, so as to have a higher quality initial output. I know better now, but, as "they" say, hindsight IS 20 20. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
PMFJI Greg, I also copied clips in the files/files mode and my project was destroyed. Some clips would get stuck on one frame and sit there stuttering until the full length of the clip had played. I stepped through one clip one frame at a time and discovered that the…
I am Ian, and thanks for the posts. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
PMFJI Eulogio, I have never corresponded with you, but have learned much from your posts (as a lurker) and was just wondering if I should ask if anyone had heard from you. I have truly missed your passing on of your vast storehouse of computing information. WELCOME BACK! Regards, Norman…
Ray, I have the Toaster and OS 3.1 and have experienced no problems. The problem is that NewTek says they do not have 3.1 OS to check out the compatability and as such will not attempt to give tech support to a system using it. The Toaster software was written…
Jerry, As I stated before, I will be satisfied if we are at least shown what progress is being made by posting regular updates on CI$ and their BBS. I might even feel less neglected if we were told specifically, what the problems are, instead of "test discovered more problems…
Ian, Will visit their forum tomorrow and leave a message. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Jerry, Yes, I too am fed up. I keep hearing about these bugs that are taken care of in 4.05, but no 4.05 software. It's not like we're using good software now and they're trying to protect us from some bugs. It won't cost them anything to post something that…
Sam, I hope we won't be sorry. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Dom, I had a problem for a couple of weeks that I could not solve, so I deleted everything that had to do with AmiTCP, PPP, and AMosiac. Having done that, I followed the instructions in Intercis.lha, and have been surfing up my phone bill ever since. Come on in,…
Sam, I have both the 9gig A/V & the 9gig non A/V models of Micropolis drives both work, as far as I can see, about the same. I can record HQ5 on both drives. I have never been able to play back an edited sequence without stuttering although each individual…
>>just type diskchange pc0:
>>I don't have any icons in devs/dosdrivers except pipe
Thomas, Aren't your other scsi devices running of of your GVP scsi port? If you have OS 3.1, you should have a workbench driver for your CDRom. I kind of thought I had a handle on these machines, but last night I couldn't get the PC0 icon to work on…
Thomas, Try changing the Icon Info from DEVICE=scsi.device to DEVICE=gvpscsi.device. Click once on the Icon for CD0:, hold down the right Amiga key and press the i key. When the screen opens up, make the change and select SAVE. This should solve your problem. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Brian, From what I understand, there are problems with things not directly Flyer related being hooked up to the Flyer scsi ports. I think you might be better off using the NewTek supplied backup software. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
>>Saperstein, hear me loud and clear — you're petty,
Ed, Diavolo Backup is a backup utility that can be purchased through CI$. You can download the demo from AmigaVend libraries and check it out. I believe the price is something like $60, I don't remember exactly. The drive I'm using is a Wangtek DAT streamer which, uses 4mm DAT…
You got it running Mark. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
PMFJI Ed, Using Diavolo Backup I am getting 5.8 MB/Min backups and 5.4 Mb/Min restores, with excellent results, through my system scsi port. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
>>You had best check the quality of flyer clips after restoring them.
>>If others are interested in these AREXX scripts I'll upload them to this forum — it just means I'll have to spend some time and write up DOCs for using them (its actually quite simple).
>>I'll let you know how I make out.

I received 4.03 last Thursday and installed it today. Hooray!!! That, however is not the good news. Using Diavolo Backup and a 2gig DAT tape drive attached to my Warp Engine scsi port, I reached backup speeds of up to 5.8 Mb/Min. The secret was found in the Toaster Manual.…
Fred, Just installed 4.03 today, and am right now processing a clip in TPaint. Things are looking up. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
C, If I think of anything else, I'll CMail you. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
C, I just checked something else, single click on the Migraph_OCR icon, then hold down the right Amiga Key and hit the i key. Inside the window, you will see some things that need to be changed, namely the scsi device name and the ID # for the device if…
Sorry C, I'm all out of ideas. Wait, are you using the scsi cable supplied with the scanner, or another one? I had to rearrange my entire set-up to use the shorter cable before mine worked Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535

>>working pretty well compared to others….
I'm sorry, I meant to plug the terminator into the scanner and plug the scsi cable into the terminator. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
C, Are you letting the scanner go through its initialization procedures before turning on the computer? You must let the scanner go through all of its self checking (until both the POWER and READY lights are on continuously) before the computer is turned on. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
C, Try plugging the scanner into the terminator. I know it sounds crazy, but that's the way mine is, and it works. Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
C, In Expertprep, my Board and LUN are both set to 0. The scanner does show up with Expertprep, doesn't it? Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
Congratulations and happy scanning Regards, Norman Austin 70743,1535
