DISCIS mem reqmt-s Message #52947
From: Nill Toulme CDROM Forum · General July 17, 1993 10:17 AM
Is anybody successfully running any of the DISCIS Kids Can Read series under Windows? I tried to install one (from DOS) and it said I don't have enough lower memory to run it… even though I tweaked around to get it to recognize 543k. Good grief… how much does it…

Hmmm… mine didn't come with labels. Have you seen a source for labels anywhere? Nill

How do y'all label your caddies? I'd like to be able to see the disk title on the edge when they're in a rack or shelf. It looks like maybe they're designed to take a label that wraps over the edge? Nill

Thanks, Dave, I will try that. Seems like an obvious enough function for Street Atlas, though. Seems like if it can search in one direction it should be able to do the other. Nill

Is there a way to look up a zip code with Street Atlas? I can figure out how to find a place by zip code, but not how to find a place's code. Nill

Ed, before buying from Tiger call Kirk Jensen at CDROM Access for a comparative quote. I bought my 3401 with cables and PA Studio and a bunch of disks from him and consider myself to have well treated. ** VOICE (415) 941-2400 FAX (415) 941-4900 ORDERS ONLY (800) 959-5260 **…

On seeing a bit more of it, and watching my kids play with, I must say I'm inclined to agree. My almost-five year old likes it OK, but she gets a little frustrated with it. Certainly compared to something like Grandma or Arthur it's on the crude side, and not…

Well, it wouldn't be so bad if you could change resolutions on the fly, without having to restart Windows. There must be a way it could be programmed, because I've seen it advertised as a feature of other cards and even of one standalone program. Ideally, it would be something…

Thanks, Sandy… that does indeed work for me, except that it makes me run in 256. I much prefer 65k… for colors, speed, and now for video acceleration which requires that depth to run. Grumble. Nill

Do you put Mixed Up Mother Goose in the same class with Grandma and Arthur? I haven't seen it yet, but if you consider it to be as good as those two, which are superb, I will rush right out and get it. And what about Amanda Stories? Is that…

Help! I have a 2 meg ATI GUP in a GW 66V. When I try to run the Broderbund CDROMs Just Grandma & Me and Arthur's Teacher Trouble, I get a "Display Driver Palette Too Small" error. This happens regardless of whether I use the Mach32 (Build 59) driver in…

Gordon, you're getting a bit over my head, but here's some of what I know, some of what I believe, and some of what I don't know, FWIW: (1) Is the 3401 a multi-speed? and once more, I'd like to verify the 3401 against our criteria: USAGE: "heavy database research"…

Rainer, please keep up posted on your transaction(s) with CDROM Direct. I'm interested in them as that's by far the best price I've found on the Tosh, but I hate to buy mail order other than by credit card. Nill p.s. What SCSI card or sound board are you using…

I called them to check on it and they confirmed the price. They sounded honest, enthusiastic and reasonably knowledgeable. They are a startup, though, and don't take credit cards. They only ship COD which is a $29 charge. They also offer the PAS-16 at $189 as well as disks/bundles. Nill

From: Nill Toulme CDROM Forum · Drives/Hardware March 3, 1993 10:52 PM
It's a Toshiba 3401. Several mailorder sources are advertising it for about $50 more than the Tosh, but bundled with a 1-2-3 CDROM. Why anyone would want 1-2-3 on CDROM I don't know, but there you are. Nill
