Can somebody help me out? Where can I find a nice, definitive description/explanation/samples of the currently popular/accepted IFF graphic formats? I know the RKM manuals are probably the first place people would tell me to go, but I also hear that they are known for their typos and general errors.…

I had the same problem LONG time ago. I talked to the creator and he told me there was a slight difference in the joystick ports between the 1000 and the (back then) newer Amigas. He said I needed to solder some resistors somewhere. Never got around to doing it.…

I've been kinda off the Amiga forums lately… If you have mentioned this already, excuse my request for old news: What is VistaWarp and GeoForge? I'm very curious 'cause they sound neat and your stuff has always been exceptional.

I have a Mass Microsystems 128MB MO drive, with a Sony Mechanism as well, and no complaints here. It's speed is somewhere between a CD-ROM and Syquest, leaning more towards the syquest. It is slower writing than reading, since writing takes 3 passes, I believe. I've never had a problem…

Could somebody expand on this Chunky Mode? (Dale?) I remember when the AGA chipset was first announced that there was a mode that alot of people were hoping the Amiga would implement to make it easier to port over IBM gfx applications, or something to that effect. Is this Chunky…

Unfortunately not, those machines, specifically the SE and classic weren't 32 bit capable, hence no 32-bit QD no matter what. Other machines, like the II, IIx, SE/30, etc., didn't have 32-bit quickdraw burned into their ROM but since they were 32-bit wide, the INIT worked for them. Apple was trying…

From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile July 20, 1993 9:12 PM
Ah, the SE/30 was one of the early Macs that actually had 32-bit quickdraw. Apple removed it from some of the later compact macs and, realizing their error, have now made it a standard on all new macs. Another clarification… Miguel ——– AP, AP, and away!
I wonder when we'll start seeing all the X-rated CD interactive stuff that the IBM/Mac world already has. Never mind that, howzabout the Nazi stuff that once reared its ugly head a few years back in the Amiga/Atari/C64 world? Miguel ——– AP, AP, and away!

PMFJI, but a Classic can't do Quicktime yet. QT only real stipulation is 32 bit Color QuickDraw. A Classic can't do it. Color Classic and above can do it. Just a clarification… Miguel ——– AP, AP, and away!
Your suspicion is correct: All the new macs have 32 bit bus except for the Classic line and the IIvx. The Centris 610 & 650 are both 32 bit. (BTW, A centris 610 with 8MB RAM, 80MB HD, Built-in Ethernet, 25mhz '040, and HD Drive goes for about $1500 now!)…
PMFJI, but I second your opinion. I might have mentioned this before when asked about 128MO drives, but I'm Tech Manager of a DTP outfit where we had about 30 Syquest drives and around 400 syquest cartridges. Their failure rate is about 1:10. Considering the important data that we rely…

Well, I can tell you that since Quicktime is frame-size relative, the smaller your quicktime frame size, the easier to capture 30-FPS. At it's smallest size, (about the size of a postage stamp) I could swear I got about 30 fps, no problem. This was also at 8 bit. When…

PMFJI, a Centris 650 8/230 with an internal CD-ROM (Apple's 300i which is Photo-CD capable, I presume?), Video Spigot/Adobe Premiere can be had around here for about… $3500. Yeah, you got a great deal! The spigot is merely a quicktime video capture board. You plug in your NTSC source into…

Well, of course I'm not suggesting you amputate! Simply remove the board and see if your problems clear up. If they do, then you have the culprit in your hands. P.S. I overheard at Digital Dimensions that Amuse now meets at NYU the first Tuesday of every month. Did you…
Works' word processor module is not quite as complex as Word's or else there'd be no point in selling Word. Works' wp is very good, though, and on top of that, it's integrated with a spreadsheet and database. Mail merges are a breeze. Miguel ——– AP, AP, and away!
Microsoft Word needs about 15 MB when FULLY installed (All the import modules and everything!). Barebones (the program only) it's about 1.3MB. Now if only the Mac had a blitter… isn't the text scrawl absolutely horrendous??? 🙂 Miguel ——– AP, AP, and away!

Joe, Why don't you try removing the GVP card and see if everything clears up. I don't know, but from everything I hear, GVP cards seem to be common culprits. I also know that on my Macs at work, in some cases, '030's that have their burst and cache modes…

Those folks at that conference are right… there is no money in educational software UNLESS you hook up with a successful publisher. Ala Scholastic, Warner, Broderbund, etc…. I'm pretty sure there are now libraries out there (CanDo?), both commercial and PD/Shareware, that can let you incorporate MODS into your scripts. Andrew, I've always felt that such arguments (CD-ROM on the Amiga being a waste of time vs IBM CD-ROM) are moot in certain situations. If your project is heavy on Graphics and Music, etc., you're obviously going to want to use your Amiga as the development machine. Porting over to…
