Joe, The last time I priced an Amiga system I could probably get an A2000, a 50MHZ 68030, 5Megs RAM, one of those new 240Meg Quantums, a CD-ROM, a Laserdisc player and software for about $4,000. If you want toast, 24 bit graphics, or 16 bit sound it will cost…
Barbara, As far as CD-ROM goes I suggest you look at the March 92 Amiga World. If you can get a hold of one. They go through what to look for in an IBM or Mac CD-ROM to use it on your Amiga. Or you could use a Bridgeboard and…
Paul, Well it looks like the water is subsiding so I guess I'll just have to change my signature again. Whaping from under water in Central Texas! Bruce
Everyone so far has made good points but lets not forget one simple fact. You can get your feet wet in multimedia with a base A2000, (Amiga Vision included), some pictures, animation and sound available here and elsewhere, maybe a paint/animation program and a music program. Add speed, harddrives, CD-ROM,…
Michael, It is in the Tools directory. Took me a while to find it too. I found it by accident :{) Whaping from under water in Central Texas! Bruce
Don, Thanks anyway. Well maybe someone out there knows. Whaping from under water in Central Texas! Bruce
#BB, 2.04 and Warm BOOT
Message #48222
Don, Is there a reason that about 50% of the time when I reboot my A3000 with the A2286 installed it cold reboots instead of a warm boot? I am still using WB 2.04 from my HD (if that makes a difference.). It is only annoying when I'm using a…
Don, Thanks, panic set in because I thought one more problem was going to sneak up on me. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Don, What GURU? I just installed the software on my A3000 under 2.04 and it ran fine and appears to run fine. Are you saying I can expect a crash? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
MIke, WHat are you doing in an Army office with an AMIGA??? Not the US Army is it? If it is how did you get away with getting an Amiga. My AMO says there is no way we could buy anything that wasn't an IBM compatable (and an Amiga with…
Tim, I loaded my harddrive in my 3000 with the cover off and the 5 1/4 dirve hooked up. Now I use the harddrive to boot and Cross-DOS and AT copy to add files. You could do the same thing as a temporary measure and with the XT you may…
Chris, I use Quarterback and have never had a problem with it. It is easy to use and CCS has a good upgrade policy when they improve it. I just got a free upgrade to fix a minor bug under WB2.0 Bruce H. -Via Whap!
You mean I have an option? Since it is a specific drive and C= isn't talking what other options do we have?
Ed, You can get a Null: device with RUNBACK (runbac.lzh) located around here someplace. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Wierd!?! Oh well until C= admits to it I guess we'll have to wait.
2MB floppy on my A3000

I'm a little behind on this one. Has anyone tried a third party HD Drive in their Amiga? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
John, Try Lharca if you want an lzh with a user interface. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Allan, Movssp is a program that moves your system stack pointer to FastRAM. Some things use Chip when they could be using FastRAM under WB1.3. Under 2.0 it uses Fast anyway. I always thought that addbuffers was one of these commands that uses Chip. It significantly speeds up some operations.…
Allan, How much memory does the buffers use? Are you running WB2.0 or 1.3? If You are running 1.3 are you using movssp? I'm asking because the solution sounds to good to be true. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Don, I know but I don't like just puting it in storage. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Allan, Doesn't that eat ram. If you aren't using movssp in an A2000 machine that is Chip ram you are using or did I misunderstand the Addbuffers command. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
John, Thanks. I guess I'll go buy a 3.5" drive and get off the A2000. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Don, Thanks. That is a relief. Well I guess I'll go buy a 3.5" drive. Is there a useful purpose that this 5.25 drive can serve for my Amiga or do I just store it? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Denny, Where do I find this command? Is it somewhere I missed in my 2.0? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
John, Thanks for the quick response. I can't believe I have to slow down the system to plug this board in. So C= didn't follow their own rules. I was afraid of that. Is there a way you know of to disable the board at boot without unpluging it every…
Don, Thanks for the quick response. I have to slow down my system? That's not good news. Is there a way to disable the board at boot short of unpluging it? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Steve, It has bridge slots (two of them). That just means that it is more difficult to add IBM cards. Personally I think that the IBM is an overpriced piece of junk and the software is very expensive for what you get but I'm in the Army and the Army…
#BB in the A3000
Message #40035
To anyone, I have a A2286 bridgeboard in my A2000 and was wondering if there are any problems moving it to my A3000 and sticking a IBM 1.44 meg drive in the 3 1/2 inch bay of the A3000. I use it only for work related text intensive applications so…
Donovan, Assuming you are using a high density 3 1/2 inch drive then you still need a mountlist for the drive similiar to the mountlist for DI0:. If you only have the stock Amiga drives (880K) you cannot read a Disk formatted for 1.44 megs because the drive won't handle…
Jim, It's called KICKRE.LZH and I think it is in System Utilities but I'm not sure. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Gary, No not me. I've been thinking about buying it but know no more than the advertising literature. Bruce H. -Via Whap!

#A2000 for sale
Message #31184
Jim, Sure, E-mail me your address. Wasn't that easy. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Joel, The program does do this. I only have two drives on my A2000 and one on my A3000 but it copies the disk to ram then proceeds to make as many copies as I want. It does write to both drives on the A2000 on the same pass and…
John, Possibly, I have never had problems with project D even when multitasking. Granted with 6 megs memory isn't usually an issue the way I use my machine. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Drive up to Killeen. The people in the Killeen Mall, as small as the mall is, know their Amiga stuff. Since I've been here the Amy stuff moved from the back to the middle of the store. One of the sales reps is the C= rep at the Ft. Hood…
Jim, Will you sell me just the Superbase? If so how much? E-mail me at 72010,1604. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Joel, Project D does multiple copies on an A3000. On computers with limited memory it won't do it but if you have an A3000 that shouldn't be a problem. I can't tell if it will multicopy on an A3000 with only 2 Megs, because mine has 6, but it does…
Craig, What Craig said is essientially correct but unless there is a new price for the powerup the 25/100 is way overpriced. The price difference allows you to buy the 25/50, 4megs Fast RAM, move the 1 meg of fast to chip and buy another Hard drive (Q105 if you…
Does QB 4.3 support Workbench 2.0? Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Roy, I just installed one for my father's A2000. I don't know from experience if it will handle a tape streamer but everything I've read says it will. There is no DB25 connector, apparently IVS doesn't like the DB25 for some reason, it does have a 50 pin connector for…
Nevin, Watch out for the overpriced 25/100. You can buy the additional memory (and BTW keep the other meg so you have 2megs of Chipram) and an additional 105 meg Quantum with the 25/50 for almost the same price. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
David, According to the docs the ColdCapture screen does not indicate a virus. If it was a virus VirusX would tell you. I can neither confirm nor deny this but it is what was in the docs. What version of VirusX are you using? I think 4.01 is the version…
Have you guys tried MegaD? It is here in disk utilities. It is configurable (somewhat) and runs under both 1.3 and 2.0. I haven't found anything better, but I haven't tried SID or AU.
Kelly, The Trumpcard PRO is a really good card. IVS tech support is real friendly and they know what they are talking. I just installed one in my father's A2000 and I (with a series I GVP card) was really jealous. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Nevin, It runs 1.3 and 2.0 on the HardDrive. All you do is cold reboot with both mouse buttons down and it gives you a choice of 2.0 or 1.3. I don't know what will happen once 2.0 is in ROM. My copies of M-1 Tank platoon and Quarterback don't…
Daniel, Wait a minute. The 68040 25mhz board was faster in test 2 on the A2000 than on the A3000??!? How can that be? Especially 2 min 45 sec worth. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Rick, I bought a Packard Bell (PB 8528SV) and it won't scan down below 31.5 KHZ. Since I have a 1084 on the desk as well but if you don't you might want to try another monitor. Bruce H. -Via Whap!
Amiga Prices

Andy, With the current prices on the A3000 buy the A3000 with the 52 Meg hard drive expand the memory and buy an additional 100 Meg Hard drive You spend about $20 more and get an extra 52 Megs of hard drive and another meg of chip ram. Bruce H.…
startup-sequence scripts
Message #28622
Johnathan, I was rewriting my startup-sequence right after I sent the reply. (I swapped the hard drives between my A2000 and my new A3000.) I changed the name of a partition and left the startup-sequence alone, it dropped out of the subprogram after 5 minutes and I went in and…
Johnathan, If your error is in startupII or a similar file and you still have the wait 5 mins command after the run execute startupII, which is what this sounds like, then if you wait 5 or a couple more minutes the startupsequence will resume. What happens is the secondary…
