Alan, You may be interested in Computer Select, SOS for Applications and SOS for Networks. All three are monthly subscriptions on CD. Briefly, Computer Select contains one full year (on each disc) of about 170 Computer related publications, plus about 80,000 hardware & software specs and about 13,000 computer company…

Martin, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I've been sick for the past few days. Yes, we do use compression on Computer Select in order to get all that information on the disc. Currently the data is compressed, but the indexes are not. Frank

Albert, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner regarding you Computer Select (computer hardware/software spec) — I haven't been feeling that great for a few days. As I mentioned, Computer Select contains 1 full year of about 170 computer journals, over 75,000 hardware and software specs, and two computer…
From: Frank Zirpolo CDROM Forum · Multimedia June 5, 1992 12:52 PM
Norman, I'm not positive of this, but I think that the audio part of CD's cannot be shared over a network. In which case you would probably have to set up a separate CD-ROM for multimedia products, so it probably does not matter in this case. Someone please correct me…

Adrian, You did not sound harsh — I merely wanted to let you know that I'm not a lawyer so that we did not end up in some legal discussion. I know what you mean about software licenses — it is difficult to keep up with all the differences from…

Adrian, Let me preface this by saying that I am the Tech Support Manager at Computer Library, so I can only tell you what our license says. Since I am not a lawyer, I'm not in a position interpret the license for you. Our license is just that, a license…

I just don't understand how a company like Sony can afford to tell a customer who calls for support that someone will get back to them in a week or so. Oh Well!

Graham, MSCDEX 2.21 is in the Microsoft Software Library — just pick the software library from the Microsoft menu. I think the file name is CDEXT.EXE, but if not, just BROWSE and do a search on MSCDEX. Frank

If the drive is a SCSI, it may work with Trantor's Mini-SCSI connector. The Mini-SCSI will allow you to plug it into your parallel port. Call Trantor at 415-770-1400. Hope this helps. Frank
From: Frank Zirpolo CDROM Forum · Drives/Hardware May 11, 1992 1:27 PM
That's weird — I would think that it should atleast have some switches to set the drive ID. How do you set drive ID when you daisychain drives? Frank
From: Frank Zirpolo CDROM Forum · Drives/Hardware May 8, 1992 1:00 PM
Helen, If I'm not mistaken the Sony drive has a terminator on it. Look at the back of the drive — there should be a set of switches. One of them is a terminator. The terminator must be turned on on the last drive in the chain — if you…

Chris, I still don't get this NETX thing. Most people have networks set up in their offices for a number of reason — CD-ROM is only one of them. Opeitnet will let me access a CD-ROM over my network without loading NETX, but then I'll lose access to everything else…

bILL, SCSI Express will not support CD-ROM products whose software makes calls directly to MSCDEX. However, the question you must ask CD-ROM publishers is "Does their software need MSCDEX?" I think you will find that very few products require MSCDEX to run — they only need MSCDEX so that their…
