Trent, I always use field rendering myself; that is why I made the comment. It seems to me that somewhere either in LW Pro, VTU, or maybe even AmigaWorld I read about it. It has been a while though. I'm sorry I can't pinpoint the source for you, maybe someone…
VTU Expo
Message #94191
Jim, I recently found out there's gonna be an expo somewhere in Southern Cal, so I called the number in one of my VTU's for information about this event. Weeell, the 'lady' that answered the phone was pretty uncool about the subject and basically told me she would not answer…
Jim, The latest issue of VTU I have is from August, and I sent a FAX asking for info on the expo. I just read the thread and I just found out it's in Dec 15. Too bad… My wife is expecting and we have been told it's gonna happen…
John, Has there been a delay in the shipping of LWPro to readers here in Mexico City? I have only gotten one issue since I suscribed at SIGGRAPH 94, I believe I got the one with the review you made on LW 3.5, unfortunately, it didn't have any tutorials yet…
Frank, Sorry for not answering sooner, but I had some trouble logging on. Let me find out that info (DA and such) and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. I have this engineer friend of mine coming in to look at my decks' heads, and maybe he…
Metaform
Message #91983
Does anyone have any idea where I can get info on Metaform? I would like to see some tutorials or sample scenes, objects. I'm gonna hook up to the NewTek BBS tomorrow and see if they have anything. TIA POlo
Frank, I'm gonna give your suggestion a good try, and I hope I understood enough to fix the problem. In case I can't, would it be too much to kinda sketch it out with some graphics? They don't have to be detailed at all, just enough for me to download…
Trent, Uh, I hadn't even thought about that… that's a good idea! 🙂 I'll call them tomorrow most likely. POlo
Frank, whoa, whoa, whoa… slow down! I think I go lost in the shuffle somewhere 🙂 Can you repeat that, in more basic, plain terms? I have a somewhat primitive brain that only likes to think about more human tasks… not very technical if you catch my drift. Thanks for…
#PAR, TBC IV and Y/C Plus
Message #91828
Hello all, Maybe somebody can give me a hand with this problem. I have two T4000s, one each in an Amiga4000. In one of the A4000s I have the Y/C Plus card attached to the Toaster card, and it's with this computer and Toaster switcher that I edit our videos.…
#MII and Toaster
Message #89163
Can anyone tell me what I can do to transform the toaster's composite signal into MII component? I haven't been able to find any transcoder cards or anything like that…
LW Pro still around?
Message #89162
I was also wondering the same thing… I got my subscription going at the SIGGRAPH booth and haven't seen anything yet…
Pardon me Adib, but what exactly do you mean by having an account on the Newtek BBS? How do you get one? POlo
#Tapes????
Message #89160
I heard that you guys may have tapes of the different seminars at SIGGRAPH… is it true?
PMFJI, I can't help but ask you, which version of SN are they up to now? They haven't sent me any upgrades since the first one! I know they got me registered 'cause I've gotten my mousepads…
#PAR and HD
Message #88545
I have had the PAR locked up for a couple of months because my dealer sent me the wrong hard drive. I have sent it back to him and I am now ordering a new HD from a different dealer here in Mexico City. Does anyone know if the Micropolis…
Adib, Sorry you're having trouble. Would you mind giving me the number for the BBS? I have the original Beta software still… POlo
Chris, Although I am in Mexico City right now, I lived in the US for over 10 years in Dallas. I still have my house there and the address I put on the registration card is the one there. Please make sure I am in your database… will you let…
Thanks for the info on the Opalvision. Yeah, we are thinking of getting an Indy (to get into that software market) and Lightwave for the SGI, and we are planning to take advantage of our PC's.

#Video toaster for IBM
Message #88363
I tremendously appreciate the information you just gave me. I have a lot of Amiga-based equipment (6 A4000, 3 A2000) and the Raptor rendering engine. However, we also have about 50 486/66 PC's with the software to match (mainly 3D Studio, Animator Pro, Photoshop Windows, and other image editing/manipulation programs).…
How could I find out if you guys got my registration card? I have had the past two versions of ADPro registered, and I never got any mail notices on upgrades or the like. I know have (I believe) 2.3: the one with FS support anyway.
PMFJI, I also heard that if I upgraded ADPro to the latest version I would get MorphPlus for free… How true is this?
Frank, Sorry for jumping in so crudely, but I noticed you have the Alladin. Can you tell me what you can do with it in terms of DVE's? Can you create your own effects? Any other info? I appreciate the help here, 'cause I'm thinking of getting one… POlo
Ed, I've had that problem before, and I have solved it by closing any of the "slices" that might be open. I have a 10MG low-res anim that never plays unless I do that. Hope this helps POlo
PMFJI, but do any of you have a list of the events at SIGGRAPH? I got all my travel arrangements, and will get the tickets at the door. Do you know what conferences there will be? Any other info would be greatly appreciated! POlo
That's too bad, I was looking forward to meeting you… POlo
John, I got 18 Megs. I have started saving my frames in Med-res/lo anti-alias since my last post, and I guess that will have to do until I get more RAM… POlo P.S. Are you going to SIGGRAPH?
Grant, Thanks for the reply. I always scale the images down using ADPro, although I haven't used bi-linear (?) Do you really think that Med-res/med-antialias is better than hi-res/lo-antialias? I really think there's an improvement with the latter setting… Don't you? POlo
Thanks, I'll try that and get back to you on Monday. POlo
Thanks Jerry. While waiting for this message, I ordered the Flyer thru my dealer already! Can't wait now! POlo
John, No, I hadn't tried that yet. Will do that tomorrow and will let you know what happens… Did you ever have this happen to you? POlo
Grant, I'll try your suggestion of a lower res. I have noticed a little better output using Hi-res/no anit-alias than what you describe though. I am not sending any image sequences. I appreciate the suggestion, and any other help you can throw my way POlo
#Raptor problem
Message #85382
I have a problem with my Raptor that hopefully someone will have a clue as to what's up, especially Don, from DeskStation Tech. I am trying to render a scene with the following settings: 104 Frames 84 Objects 14 Surfaces, 9 Image maps 2 Lights (Distant, Spot) 18297 Polygons, 22105…
PMFJI, Could you post the numbers for those two companies for those of us that came in late? POlo
Fun it is… This is my first time to SIGGRAPH, what should I expect? POlo
Erik, Welcome back, man. I like numbers too. Say, you going to SIGGRAPH? POlo
Brent, I appreciate your time, thank you. POlo
Count me in as well: it's my first time at SIGGRAPH POlo
Brent, Yeah, don't I know it… We are in the process of getting our video decks changed from S to BetaSP, and we'll be getting another Raptor soon. I am waiting for what Deskstation has to say at SIGGRAPH though. Would you happen to know which conferences will be given…
Don, Adib, Erik, Amen to all that has been talked about. My apologies to you Erik, if I sounded a little 'touchy' last week, it just sounded like my credibility was put on the line. POlo
Don, What is this 'next thing' you're talking about? Would I be making a mistake getting another Raptor now? Should I wait? POlo
Erik, That's too bad, I think you're missing out on a good thing. As far as _I'm_ concerned, there is no grudge here, and I now believe you believe in what I said. The way it was written was somehow misleading however, so I wanted to make the point clear,…
Don, I replied to Erik's comment before I saw yours, and I'm happy to say that I see you _DO_ believe what I said. I hope Erik was not trying to burn me and DeskStation Tech, because I _DO NOT LIE_! Erik, go get yourself a Raptor! Sh?t! I'll even…
Erik, No offense taken. I am using an A4000/040, and it has 18MB RAM. It is hard for us to believe that improvement in speed, for the A4000 is not 'tweaked' in any way. I am sorry to tell you that I cannot upload the scene (body of evidence) because…
Brent, I am definitely interested! Count me in. POlo
Thanks John, I'll be expecting to hear from you again on this… POlo
#ScreamerNet and Anims
Message #84541
Hello again, Does anyone know if the ScreamerNet software has a reported bug in the sense that it doesn't seem to save anims? I have tried different ways, and none of them seem to work. ScreamerNet is not saving Anim files! POlo
Martin, Congratulations on a fine product. I would be very glad to appear on your brochure commenting about the Raptor. I am extremely pleased with its performance. You can read a past thread about things I've said about it, mainly: Frame #114 of a 1500+ animation took a little over…
John, I can hardly believe it myself! No tweaking on the Amiga though (basic 18MB RAM and 200MB HD(?)… The frame was #114 of a 1500+ animation with lots of reflection and refraction (plus antialias and such, at med-res). We plan on re-rendering maybe the whole thing in hi-res (we…
Kudos well deserved, Don! POlo
