FLC under Windows NT
Message #174195
Hi! I need to handle FLC import in a Windows NT digital video editing application. I've seen a few 16-bit libraries which will translate FLC frames into Windows DIBs (or something similar), but no 32-bit libraries. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks, Jim Lowe Avid Technology
Oops…you're absolutely correct. VGA does not mean multisync. I don't know where my mind was when I types that up, but I _do_ work with Macs all day long – I think my brain is starting to decay :^) Again, sorry for the blunder… – Steve –
"VGA Monitor" means multisync. As far as I know, you need a multisync monitor for the flickerFixer or FFV board. I have a flickerFixer with a Mits 1381A multisync 14" monitor and it works great. It also has the advantage of having a composite video in BNC connector on the…
Luckily, not all drives are 512 bytes/sector. I am using a drive that uses 2K bytes/sector and get almost 1.6 MB/sec sustained. – Steve –
The border really doesn't look that bad – you get used to it very quickly. As for the scan rate, it should sync to whatever comes in the RGB port. – Steve –
Any idea when 2.0 will be available for 2000 owners? – Steve –
I have the Diamond Scan (14") hooked up to a flickerFixer and it works great. There is a .5 to .75" black border on the left and right when the controls are maxed out. The top & bottom have no border. The monitor is great; another nice thing about it…
Straight out of the box, the Mac cannot animate as well as the Amiga. But… given the right hardware, you can get some very nice animations. The company I work for makes a non-linear video/audio editing system that digitizes and plays back 30fps 8-bit video as well as 44KHz 16-bit…
AM3, F.S.500 in Stereo
Message #2916
Is anyone else using AudioMasterIII with a FutureSound500 digitizer? I need to do some stereo digitizing but am experiencing some problems: Digitizing works fine in mono, but when I try to sample in stereo, I get a lot of static in both channels. The problem is not hardware, since the…
Thanks…what HD controller do you have? I have had a HardFrame for over a year and a half and I really like it. After talking with MicroBotics a while back, I got discouraged that they were not going to come out with an A-MAX driver, so I bought a TrumpCard…
Shouldn't be anything special…the only thing that might be a problem is seeing the cartridge changes. Most SyQuest drives for the Mac come with a small INIT that sees the cart changes. Now, if one of these INITs would work with the A-Max, you could use that. I would call…
Ward: There are a couple of vendors out there that make Mac drivers for just about every printer under the sun! I can get the names of a couple if you can't find 'em… – Steve –
I made a new startup-disk and everything seems to work fine now…control panel settings are even saved! – Steve –
The Logical Unit numbers should be the same on all the drives. The SCSI ID numbers have to be different for all drives on a SCSI bus. You can add up to 7 SCSI devices to the SCSI bus (the SCSI controller is the 8th device). Usually the controller is…
Contact Redmond Cable – you can get their number from the back of AmigaWorld, etc. – Steve –
I've never had a problem with Control Panel or Chooser settings getting lost on a real Macintosh and I always close the window with the close gadget! I'm gonna have to try installing Mac Plus system software on the AMAX-II – I go into the Control Panel, change the mouse…
#A-Max II & Mouse Speed
Message #4904
Has anyone had any problems getting certain Control Panel settings to work? I don't mean problems saving them, I mean you set them and they don't seem to do anything. For example, I am having troubles getting the mouse speed settings to work. I set the mouse for the fastest…
Thanks for the info. Now all need is the H.F. to work with the AMAX II. – Steve –
Well, I am not surprised that the HardFrame is faster than the GVP, but so far Microbotics doesn't seem to handle removeable media very well (doesn't do an automatic diskchange). Also (and this is a pretty big factor), I heard that the AMAX II Plus' hard drive & SCSI abilities…
What kind of interference happens with '020 & '030 boards and are they fixable with the settings? – Steve –
#Wanted: GVP Ser. II Info
Message #1783
Does anyone have an experience with the new GVP series II Hard-Disk+RAM card? I am thinking of trading in my Hardframe and selling my 8-UP DIP board for a couple of reasons. For one thing, the GVP boards work much better with removeable media like SyQuest drives, CD-ROMS, and Magneto-Opticals…
Brian: Get a copy of QED. It's PD or shareware or something like that and has pretty complete mouse control. It is especially nice for editing scripts since, unlike most editors, it does not strip all the protection bits (like +s) from the files it edits. If you cannot find…
Yeah…add my name to the list of people who want to use AMAX II with the H.F. I really like the H.F., but the GVP card has a lot going for it. – Steve –
Lloyd: Any idea when it's supposed to be out and what it can do? And, of course, how much $$? – Steve –
Yes, I have had an Amiga since 1985 and I still prefer it for most things – The Amiga could really use a 24-bit color board and higher resolution, but I see great things in store… – Steve –

Avid Tech? Whazzat?
Message #117598
Branden: We make a video editing system for use in post production studios. We write software to access off-the-shelf hardware that lets you digitize CD-quality audio and 8 bit video (30 fps) to hard disk in realtime. You then edit the clips any way you want, and view it at…
Has anyone heard if there will be a software package that will use the AMAX II Plus (Board version) to control 1 amiga floppy drive? This would be great for MAC-to-DOS; it could use the AMAX to make one of your floppies a Mac floppy while keeping the other a…
Have you heard if AM III will allow stereo digitizing with the FutureSound digitizer? I really like AM II, but need to be able to do this as well as audio effects like flange, reverb, etc. – Steve Hall –
HF w/ SyQuest
Message #110606
Hello All, I have a HardFrame with an 80MB Quantum on the card. This works great. I recently got my hands on a MicroTech drive (uses the SyQuest 44MB removeable drives). I got it connected to the HardFrame, got it formatted and working. The only wierd thing is that the…
Russ, I have the flickerFixer on my A2000 with a Mitsubishi multi-sync monitor. I have a 25-pin switch box to switch between the Amiga's interlaced display and the fF display. This works great! You would do the exact same thing to switch between a VGA board and the Amiga's RGB…
Good idea; i think I would like to partition it in half. The only problem is finding a nice logical way to divide the stuff up. Actually, I have an old 300MB Maxtor drive that I haven't been using 'cause it acted funny (doing drive access when it shouldn't have,…
#Keyboard for A1000
Message #107961
Hello… I just bought a A1000 and am looking for a keyboard for it. I know you can use an A2000 keyboard with an adaptor, but I was wondering if anyone has any A1000 keyboards or knows of any other options. If I have to get a 2000 keyboard &…
I've got mind running on a Mitsubishi 14" with 704×470 and it looks great. Most multisyncs will leave a small black border on the sides – the Mits has 1/2" black borders; not too bad. I also have the fF and the normal Amiga RGB running through a 25-pin switch…
I don't know, but I have a friend who needs one too. I called every mail order house I could find and no one has them. MicroBotics stopped making them and everyone has stopped selling them. If you find a place that has 'em, please let me know. – Steve…
Will this board allow digitizing directly to a hard disk? – Steve Hall –
#Fonts in PW 3.0
Message #103440
Will ProWrite 3.0 have the ability to look in different directories for fonts? I would like to be able to have a couple of font directories and switch between them from within ProWrite. Or at least be able to start ProWrite, reassign the FONTS: dir and then tell ProWrite to…
Mike, I'm not an editor either; I am the Systems Engineering/Administrator at Avid so I deal more with the in-house computer systems than the actual product, although I do occatiolly get to play with the Avid/1 (just finished a rock video for one of my songs). It is really amazing…

#Hey, Avid!?
Message #101457
Mike: Yep, that's us… It's called the Avid/1 Media Composer and it's a real-time, random-access, non-linear video/audio editing system based on the Mac IIx. It lets you digitize your video footage along with CD audio in real time onto disks, then move the frames (video & audio) around to you…
#Swap 'Amiga' Keys
Message #99369
I am looking for a key-swapping utility. Here is why: Like most people, I am right-handed, so I tend to use the mouse with my right hand. The problem is, most (read: ALL) applications that have keyboard equivalents force you to use the right-amiga with a special key. What I…
