#MSS BBS DOA goodbye
Message #85017
As of this friday (the 14th, I think), the Micro-Systems Software BBS will no longer be running. If ya need anything offa there, get it now. I've placed two files which are often DL's here: import.rex and prolog.lzh which strip cr's and allow use with saxonscript (both for excellence!)…. This…
Hmmmm it may have been to the person you replied to earlier. Sorry.
They do seem to access considerably faster than CG fonts. I've got one setup wwith a split hard drive, the access times for a TType font is instant, while there is always a noticeable delay when selecting a CG font. The processors both run at the same mhz, if that…
You can use them, but they don't print sharper than normal fonts. When you said they didn't word, did you mean in that sense (the printing) or that they didn't show up or select from the font requester? Versions prior to the current version (3.0) had problems using them in…
Yeah, you can convert Propage fonts with the conversion utility, or you can DL some from our BBS (407)790-0774… on our BBS the file is POSTSCRIPT.LZH, and when you extract uuse the option to preserve directory structure and extract it to your fonts: directory. Remember that using converted fonts you…
Dallas…. is that Amazing computing store chain still in business.. (I'm not sure if I got the name right), but they set up a shop in San Antonio when I lived there, but they weren't doing to well… SA also had a really old Amiga store named Computer experience that…
The way we do it (in excellence!) is first, we provide two menu options, mark index entry and mark TOC entry. (They have keyboard shortcuts, aslo) Whenever you highlight something and select one of these, it places a TOC or index marker at the start and end of the highlighted…
I must admit it's sortofa group thing. If no one else does it, you don't have to either…. exit
You're still the only person that's had problems with margins that we've had contact with… We spent days with rulers making sure everything was within 1/64" of an inch on all printers we could get in here, and I agree that you should set 1 inch and get 1 inch…
Okay, I've got them marked down.
Sure, please do. If you'd like a brochure or something just give me an address. If the version you saw was version 1, the speed has been increased dramatically. I can't outtype it, (I go about 70-75 wpm), and the appearance has been completely changed with this latest version…
I think they have an endnote ARexx macro included…. from another biased perch I'll add that excellence! has footnotes, TOC generation, Indexing…. and an Arexx macro that converts footnotes to endnotes.
Well, for starters, it probably matters quite a bit what word processor you're using. If it is one which sends graphic out put to the printer (a common Amiga tactic) then it shouldn't really be a problem with the printer directly, since it never gets the font, but rather gets…
Greay, it's going to map keys around so we talk in accents. I had ones set up to map W to V, for scandinavian, and R to W for lisps…. eixt
I'm afraid not, we've (MSS) discontinued programs but that doesn't mean they are freely distributable. If nothing else, the Amiga WP probably still contains much code that is present in all versions of WP, so they can't release that. If it does get distributed everywhere (I'm sure CIS won't allow…
They're not saying they can't make money… they can, it's just that they can make more money by not devoting time to the Amiga, and according to economists, money not made is money lost (they don't get maximum utility)… I personally don't mind, we've gotten lots of calls from former…
IBM isn't even in control of it anymore. They're losing in their own battlefield. Sure, XT's are dead, but I'd hardly blame economic trends on that. Unless someone used one to send doomsday messages to Wall Street..
Just one, president's day from Washington & Lincoln…
It seems like you discovered what I left in my reply as well.
That's the problem. The WP's. the apostrophe is one of those characters. rename it and it'll work fine (WPs, or even WP`s (reverse apostrophe) would be fine. We have fixed this problem, BTW…
Hey, thanks, Phil. And let me add that GD is the only DTP that I (me, personally) use, and appreciate the import (still can't afford PostScript at home, though I usually just wait 'till I'm here at work….
Well, we (MSS's e!3.0) are not a clone of F.C., we didn't even have one while working on 3.0… which many people seem to wish we had…
Thanks for the info.
Yes, we know what it looks like… and know that most people want that, so until somebody releases $300 postscript printer….
We didn't use ASL itself for several reasons, including look, gadgets, and workbench 1.3. I'm not familiar with KD_FREQ or MAGIC_FR, where can I find out more about them?
Topaz is okay, but I personally dodge monospace fonts wherever possible. My favorite font? For screen displays it's gotta be Helv 13 at interlaced or productivity mode. Anyone out there want to start a favorite font poll?
Yeah, I guess we're going to have to do something like that. Thanks for the info.
Great. I knew it was in there somewhere.
Yeah, but we had to write it for 1.3 and 2.0. It IS a problem, though, and will be addressed. That list of characters is the same list (with the addition on ~, I think, that the routine checks for to determine if it is looking at a pattern. We…
Sure, We got three system here with that name and it works, and my hard drive at home is also named Dh0:.
I wasn't here (@MSS) when that decision was made, but apparently some polls and tester responses indicated it wouldn't be worthwhile to market it. We've gotten use out of most of the code in E!3.0, so it wasn't a total waste. I personally still use it here all the time.…
Well, the 1.x versions were the ones that had the big rap on speed, with 2.0, the biggest improvement was speed. I type somewhere around 70-80 wpm, and have no problems with it, I cannot outtype it on the 2500 I use and can't remember outttyping it on my 500…
They are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. There's usually an hour in there somewhere when it's down for lunch, but the time varies from noon to as late as 2:30….
I I'll try to make it. I'll bring along 3.0 if anyone would want to see it…
It's one I had never heard of until discovering it while doing the french version (you can imagine how common apostrophes are in french filenames), and asked him about it, and he dug up some obscure manual and showed me what it was supposed to do. He pulled it from…
It looks like your message got cut off. We tried several different fonts with the thesaurus, at one point we were going to use Helv, but Helv 8 (which is what the non-interlaced) (mode would use) is a "bold" font, which means it is already bold, and should not be…
Okay, first, are you printing in NLQ, Graphic, or Postscript? (if draft, treat as NLQ) The thesaurus uses a font named TMSRMN 12 if found, otherwise it uses topaz. Under Amigados 2.0, the backround around the text will by yellow in the thesaurus. It is grey under 1.3 (under 1.3,…
Yeah, it'll accept it, but using them can cause trouble. Anybody out there remember what purpose the apostrophe ' character serves in AmigaDos?
No, but it might cause problems. Any luck with the reformatting?
Yes, it is, and there is a UK version. The distributor is: HB Marketing 753-6860000 Unit 3, Poyle 14 Newlands Dr, Colnbrook Slough, Berks England SL3 ODX Fax: 753-680343
Yes, it's true.
What's the day, and the time?
Why, the one built into excellence!…
Well, actually it's not non-alphanumeric, it's character which also serve some purpose in AmigaDos. And yes, though hardly anyone uses it, the apostrophe is an official AmigaDos character. So are parenthesis, not symbols ~,vertical bars, etc. I don't even remember what the apostrophe does, but Steve remembered it. It's the…
Hey, you're in Fort Lauderdale? We're in WPB… we used to be in Boca, but moved a coupla years back (before I was here)… are you in any of the groups down there?
This is standard. In the Print to File line, enter in: SER: that's all it takes, straight to serial port, bypasses any printer drivers , prints much faster, but you gotta make sure that your printer and amiga serial port preferences are at the same speed.
Well… we sped it some, but added stuff too… It seems to run the same on '68020's, which seems to be fine. But the addition of bookmarks should make jumping around easier, and there is now dynamic scrolling with the scroll bar, should you so desire (hold down ALT to…
Well, I tried to get the grammar checker modified slightly. It complains about split infinitives in the form of to xxx be, but not to xxx go, which of course is the most famous split infinitive, that of To Boldly Go Where No Man/One has gone before… But seeing as…
Okay…. do you know why there was a new one with 2.0, though? is it better? can it be used with 1.3?
The thesaurus is identical. Syn, Cmp, Rel, Con, and Ant, are all there. The dictionary is not identical, it doesn't have definitions, as it is just a spelling dictionary. But the thesaurus has definitions, which are usually more detailed than those found in Baby's dictionary. It just doesn't have as…
